Treballs Finals de Grau d'Enginyeria Química, Facultat de Química, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2017-2018, Tutors: Esther Chamarro Aguilera, Manel Vicente Buil, David Carreras i ViñasOne of the main quality requirements for GMP regulations is the process validation in order to guarantee the consumer satisfaction. Therefore, the manufacturers have to control the critical points of the manufacturing process through the qualification and validation during the product’s life cycle. The intention is to show what is the process validation and all the factors that are involved in it as well as the importance of the process validation to demonstrate that a manufacturing process is consistent and produces a product which complies with predefined specifications. For that purpose, participation on the process validation of the manufacturing of NaOH 32% w/w solution GMP has been performed. The process validation of NaOH 32% w/w GMP started in December 2017 and its ending is scheduled at the end of the 2018. Firstly, the performance of a risk assessment with the establishment of the possible risks of the process through the detailed study of the manufacturing process of NaOH 32% GMP. The identified risks have allowed the creation of cleaning and operating procedures, and the development of corrective actions to reduce the possibilities of having quality or safety issues. Secondly, the engagement in the equipment qualification of vessel. The tasks involved in it have been consisted in create and complete the documentation of Design Qualification, Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification and Performance Qualification. Thirdly, due to the fact that NaOH 32% GMP is manufactured in multiproduct plant, the determination of Barium Hydroxide 8-Hydrate as the “worst case” through the performance of the risk analysis based on the solubility, toxicity and the hardest to clean of whole the products manufactured in the equipment in order to validate the cleaning procedure suggested. Fourthly, some improvements and recommendations has been suggested during this project as a result of the current process study performed to elaborate the Product Quality Review suchas the approach of water system qualification, the reconsideration of the products specifications and the application of a tool to collect the information obtained from the product and the process. To achieve these tasks, it has been necessary to gaining knowledge and understanding about Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and the concepts of validation. This knowledge has been based on guidelines and regulations of ICH (International Council for Harmonisation), EMEA (European Medicines Agency) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration)

An Eligible Bachelor: Austen, Love, and Marriage in Pride and Prejudice and Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld.

Jane Austen’s six novels have been the starting point of many sequels, continuations, and adaptations. One of such is Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld, a rewriting of Pride and Prejudice set in 21st-century U.S.A., where the search for an eligible bachelor becomes a TV reality show. This essay analyzes how Sittenfeld modifies Austen’s characterization of the main characters and their matrimonial quest taking into account how marriage has changed since the 19th century, exploring what elements persist and what adjustments need to be made in order to bring the spirit of the original to our current days and if such an attempt is ultimately successful.post-print524 K

    Cálculo hidráulico de puentes históricos

    Get PDF

Engineering disorder in three-dimensional photonic crystals

We demonstrate the effect of introducing controlled disorder in self-assembled three-dimensional photonic crystals. Disorders are induced through controlling the self-assembling process using an electrolyte of specific concentrations. Structural characterization reveals increase in disorder with increase in concentrations of the electrolyte. Reflectivity and transmittance spectra are measured to probe the photonic stop gap at different levels of disorder. With increase in disorder the stop gap is vanished and that results in a fully random photonic nanostructure where the diffuse scattered intensity reaches up to 100%. Our random photonic nanostructure is unique in which all scatters have the same size and shape. We also observe the resonant characteristics in the multiple scattering of light.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure

CVA with wrong-way risk and correlation between defaults: An application to an interest rate swap

This paper presents a counterparty credit risk adjustment model to value overthe-counter financial derivatives. To do so, a bilateral credit valuation adjustment with wrong-way risk (WWR) and dependency between the defaults of both contract parties is developed in line with the Hull-White model (2012), which calculates default probabilities using a hazard rate modelled as an exponential function dependent on the value of the derivative. The model proposed incorporates a modified hazard rate for each entity, which includes the company’s own exposure to credit risk attributable to the other entity’s default. By so doing, a correlation between the respective defaults of the entities party to the financial derivative is added. The model developed is also applied to obtain the fair value of an interest rate swap and the results obtained, using Monte Carlo simulation, demonstrate that the value of this swap adjusted to the credit risk falls when the dependency between the entities’ defaults is considered
