Innovation Determinants in Emerging Countries: An Empirical Study at the Tunisian Firms level

Explaining why some firms innovate and some others do not is an out-of-date challenge in the economic literature. In developing countries context, such exercise is even more complicated by the nature of the innovation (incremental, occasional and rarely continuous and structured). In this paper, an exploratory tentative logistic regression is presented based on an Innovation survey on Tunisian firms. With regard to the results on the two "traditional" determinants of innovation which are the size of firms and the market structure, the main findings of this work are the following: econometric estimations have put forward the existence of an inverted "U" type relationship between decision to innovate and these two variables. On the other hand, it seems that neither skills of workers nor public incentives were significant to explain the innovation behaviour of Tunisian firms.Industry dynamics; Innovation systems; Development economics; Sectoral systems of innovation

This article focuses on the network analysis of the contemporary art in Tunisia, through a dual approach that is both egocentric (centered on the individual) and intermediate (interaction between individuals). Starting with a series of interviews with actors who belong to the world of Tunisian art (artists, gallerists and curators), we propose a comprehensive approach to the process of structuring the network of Art, in its context of creation, mediation, reception and transnational exchanges.

Trials and Tribulations of Sla Framework in Designing Arabic Courses for Speakers of Other Languages

There is a consensus among language teachers and researchers that language course design is always a work in progress. This is influenced by variables such as the type of language being taught and whether the teaching of this language has been researched. Arabic is one the languages that have created a perennial debate among its teachers about the anticipated challenges pointing principally to three reasons. The first reason refers to the dichotomy that exists between MSA and Colloquial Arabic, which will have a direct impact on teaching the macro-skill of ‘speaking’. The second reason deals with the complexity of MSA in terms of grammar. The final reason discusses the theoretical aspects of language teaching and learning and its implications to the design of the Arabic program. This paper discusses these problems stemming from the recent empirical pilot study of teaching Arabic for a specific purposes (ASP). The study exposes some the problems mentioned above and suggests solutions to improve the teaching of Arabic in the light of theories of SLA and language teaching and learning

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the evolution of poverty and identify the socio-economical groups as well as the dimensions that contribute to it in Tunisia following a monetary approach and also a multi-dimensional one. For this reason, I adopt a method which consists in using the approach of stochastic dominance and the theory of fuzzy sets. That is to say, I adopt some of the different methods which have been adopted in the previous studies that were interested in Tunisia. Three main conclusions emerge from the exploitation of data based on two national surveys of the budget and the consumption of households 2005, 2010 and another national survey of the family health 2006. In fact, the first one reveals the decrease of poverty at the national level despite that there are disparities that still persist between rural and urban areas and between the coastal regions and the regions of the interior as well. The second survey puts in evidence that the effects of redistributive policies in Tunisia have not accelerated the pace of poverty reduction. As for the third survey, it suggests that taking into account the multi-dimensional aspect of poverty reveals the existence of other important dimensions in relationship with poverty that constitute an obstacle to a decent life for the Tunisian households.
