Come archiviare sul web la storia dell'arte?

Considerazioni di carattere epistemologico sul concetto di memori

Sull’avvio del canone negli studi di storia dell’arte contemporanea nell’era della globalizzazione digitale. Spunti da uno scritto di Cesare Segre

Il saggio propone un ragionamento sull’interazione, sempre più diffusa nella pratica artistica attuale, tra l’autore e il fruitore nella realizzazione dell’opera d’arte. Interazione, coinvolgimento da parte di un pubblico più o meno consapevole, che, certamente, può ritenersi per le arti visive ormai una pratica acquisita ma che, tuttavia, può aprire, se non nuove prospettive, nuovi interrogativi. Secondo l’autrice, infatti, lo storico dell’arte, intervenendo sulla contemporaneità, non può ignorare, nell’epoca dell’intermedialità, nei tempi dell’abbattimento delle frontiere tra i vari generi artistici, nella realtà di una comunità culturale che deve confrontarsi, inevitabilmente, con il web e particolarmente con il web 2.0, espressione delle reti sociali, quella che Segre ha definito come «paternità frazionata» dell’opera d’arte. Ha senso parlare ancora, quindi, alla luce di questi cambiamenti, di fronte a questa nuova tipologia di proposte e in un’età definita ormai come interattiva, di autore e di opera? E, infine, proprio sulla scia di questi cambiamenti, le parole e le modalità d’intervento della critica militante devono darsi un nuovo statuto?The essay offers a reasoning on interaction between the author and the audience in the artwork’s creation, more and more common in current artistic practice. Interaction by a public more or less conscious, which can be now considered an assimilated practice for the visual arts but which, however, may open, if not new perspectives, new questions. According to the author, in fact, the art historian who intervenes on contemporaneity cannot ignore what Segre has defined as artwork’s «paternità frazionata», considering that we are in the intermediality era, in the times of abolishing borders between the various artistic genres, in a cultural community that must inevitably confront, with the web, and particularly with the web 2.0 social networks’ expression. Then does it still makes sense, in light of these changes, in front of this new kind of proposals and in an age now defined as interactive, to talk about of author and artwork? And finally, just in the wake of these changes, does militant criticism’ words and action modalities must give themselves a new statute

Con il presente scritto si presenta Agave. Contributo allo studio delle fonti della storia dell'arte in Italia nel Novecento, il portale esito di una ricerca sulle fonti dell’arte del XX secolo. In questo contesto si intende sottolineare quanto lo spoglio di un quotidiano come il palermitano L’Ora, e la creazione di una base dati consultabile in rete, richieda una profonda consapevolezza della specificità delle fonti dell’arte contemporanea, e nello stesso tempo restituisca una risorsa multidisciplinare che consenta l’individuazione di informazioni utili alla ricerca storica.The present essay describes and analyzes Agave. Contributo allo studio delle fonti della storia dell'arte in Italia nel Novecento, a digital resource outcome of a research project financed by italian Ministry of University and Education and Fondazione Banco di Sicilia di Palermo. The contribution highlights how the creation of a database constituted by the digitization of photos and illustration, the indexing and description of articles of a newspaper such as the Palermo L’Ora, requires a deep awareness of the specificity of the sources of contemporary art; at the same time how such a digital resource became a multidisciplinary resource that allows the emergence of useful information for historical research

Coverage and Deployment Analysis of Narrowband Internet of Things in the Wild

Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is gaining momentum as a promising technology for massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC). Given that its deployment is rapidly progressing worldwide, measurement campaigns and performance analyses are needed to better understand the system and move toward its enhancement. With this aim, this paper presents a large scale measurement campaign and empirical analysis of NB-IoT on operational networks, and discloses valuable insights in terms of deployment strategies and radio coverage performance. The reported results also serve as examples showing the potential usage of the collected dataset, which we make open-source along with a lightweight data visualization platform.Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE Communications Magazine (Internet of Things and Sensor Networks Series

Coherent transport in extremely underdoped Nd1.2Ba1.8Cu3Oz nanostructures

Proximity-effect and resistance magneto-fluctuations measurements in submicron Nd1.2Ba1.8Cu3Oz (NBCO) nano-loops are reported to investigate coherent charge transport in the non-superconducting state. We find an unexpected inhibition of cooper pair transport, and a destruction of the induced superconductivity, by lowering the temperature from 6K to 250mK. This effect is accompanied by a significant change in the conductance-voltage characteristics and in the zero bias conductance response to the magnetic field pointing to the activation of a strong pair breaking mechanism at lower temperature. The data are discussed in the framework of mesoscopic effects specific to superconducting nanostructures, proximity effect and high temperature superconductivity.Comment: to appear on new journal of Physic

Inhibition of HSP70 expression by calcium ionophore A23187 in human cells. An effect independent of the acquisition of DNA-binding activity by the heat shock transcription factor

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are induced in mammalian cells in a variety of pathophysiological states and have an important role in cytoprotection in vitro and in vivo. In this study, we report that the calcium ionophore A23187, a glucose-regulated protein (GRP) inducer, dramatically inhibits HSP70 synthesis and HSP70 mRNA transcription after induction by heat shock, sodium arsenite, or prostaglandin A1 treatment in human K562 cells. A23187 does not suppress, and it actually prolongs, the DNA-binding activity of the human heat shock transcription factor (HSF), while it alters HSF1 phosphorylation in heat shock-treated cells. To inhibit HSP70 expression, A23187 needs to be present during heat shock, while treatment before or after heat shock does not affect HSP70 mRNA transcription. The GRP inducer thapsigargin, which specifically inhibits the endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase, has no effect on heat-induced HSP70 synthesis, indicating that A23187 inhibitory activity is not due to depletion of intracellular calcium stores and is independent of the concomitant induction of GRP genes. Inhibition of HSP70 expression is correlated with alterations in HSF1 phosphorylation in heat-shocked cells, but not in sodium arsenite-treated cells, indicating that different mechanisms may be involved in mediating A23187 inhibitory activity
