What Should We Learn From Early Hemodialysis Allocation About How We Should Be Using ECMO?
Early hemodialysis allocation deliberations should inform our current considerations of what constitutes reasonable uses of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Deliberative democracy can be used as a strategy to gather a plurality of views, consider criteria, and guide policy making
Fine asymptotics of profiles and relaxation to equilibrium for growth-fragmentation equations with variable drift rates
We are concerned with the long-time behavior of the growth-fragmentation
equation. We prove fine estimates on the principal eigenfunctions of the
growth-fragmentation operator, giving their first-order behavior close to 0 and
. Using these estimates we prove a spectral gap result by following
the technique in [Caceres, Canizo, Mischler 2011, JMPA], which implies that
solutions decay to the equilibrium exponentially fast. The growth and
fragmentation coefficients we consider are quite general, essentially only
assumed to behave asymptotically like power laws
Excision for deformation K-theory of free products
Associated to a discrete group , one has the topological category of
finite dimensional (unitary) -representations and (unitary) isomorphisms.
Block sums provide this category with a permutative structure, and the
associated -theory spectrum is Carlsson's deformation -theory of G. The
goal of this paper is to examine the behavior of this functor on free products.
Our main theorem shows the square of spectra associated to (considered as
an amalgamated product over the trivial group) is homotopy cartesian. The proof
uses a general result regarding group completions of homotopy commutative
topological monoids, which may be of some independent interest.Comment: 32 pages, 1 figure. Final version: The title has changed, and the

Innovative spatial timber structures: workshops with physical modeling explorations from small to full scale
Architects and Engineers are educated and work within two separate cultures yet
they are both concerned with conceptual structural design. The collaboration between
the professions is especially important when designing buildings where the structure to
a great degree forms the spaces, as in the cases of form generating structures such as
gridshells, reciprocal frames, space trusses etc . This paper describes several specialist
research based workshops developed at KA over the last two years that use physical
modelling of 1:1 innovative timber load-bearing structures such as gridshells and
reciprocal frames
Reassessing the link between B-modes and inflation
We reevaluate the predictions of inflation regarding primordial gravity
waves, which should appear as B-modes in the CMB, in light of the fact that the
standard inflationary paradigm is unable to account for the transition from an
initially symmetric state into a non-symmetric outcome. We show that the
incorporation of an element capable of explaining such a transition
dramatically alters the prediction for the shape and size of the B-mode
spectrum. In particular, we find that by adapting a realistic objective
collapse model to the situation at hand, the B-mode spectrum gets strongly
suppressed with respect to the standard prediction. We conclude that the
failure to detect B-modes in the CMB does not rule-out the simplest
inflationary models.Comment: Accepted for publication in PR
TiO2 nanotubes for room temperature toluene sensor
TiO2 nanotubes were used to prepare gas sensor and the gas sensing properties towards toluene were analyzed. Titania nanotube arrays were fabricated via electrochemical anodization method in glycerol electrolytes containing NH4F. The sensor fabricated from these nanotubes exhibits a good response to toluene at room temperature with good sensitivity. The toluene sensing properties were tested from 20 to 150 ppm concentrations.Fil: Perillo, Patricia Maria. Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica.
