Gold in the Lousal mine, Iberian Pyrite Belt, Portugal
Recent exploration boreholes in the Lousal Mine, located within the Portuguese sector of the Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB)
yielded marked concentrations in gold/electrum in a section of core consisting of banded metasediments with massive
pyrite. Preliminary research indicates that the gold is associated with native bismuth and bismuthinite and is clearly
late in the paragenetic sequence occurring in fine chalcopyrite (± covellite)-bismuthinite-gold filled veinlets within the
dominant and more massive pyrite. The pale yellow gold grains are fine, seldom reaching more than 6 ..m in length
and half of that in thickness. EPMA results indicate that silver concentrations in gold grains can be as high as 27
wt.%. The results show similarities with conclusions drawn from the IPB on the Spanish side where gold of Co-Bi
geochemical association is found as electrum with abundant to common Co and Bi minerals. These associated with
pyrite and/or chalcopyrite are characterized by an abundance of sedimentary facies and show that the gold
association formed at high temperature (>300 °C) during the initial phases of massive sulphide formation
Controlling the operating conditions in an Operating Room
In this paper, we describe the development of a module capable of controlling environmental conditions, personnel movement and management of other important parameters for an operating room (OR) or surgery block. The base of assembly uses a real-life small scale model trying to simulate the systematic functionality of an OR as well as its crucial components. These include the regulation of environmental parameters, logging of entries and exits by the staff, management of pharmaceutical drugs and diseases, and the statistical analysis of several acquired data. The project integrates different types of technologies, such as the microcontroller Arduino, a bidirectional communication interface between this device and a computer, a web based user interface for dynamic interaction, as well as database concepts for data management.N/

The Role of Morphosyntactic Awareness in Conventional Lexical Segmentation
Starting with the alphabetic stage of writing acquisition, the learner struggles with issues related to spelling, including the segmentation of writing in graphic words. This study examined the conventional segmentation of words and its relation to morphosyntactic awareness in a sample of students in the 4th and 5th years of elementary education in public schools. Results reveal a discrepancy between the oral identification of words and performance in the segmentation of writing, with three criteria being used by students to define “word”: (1st) full meaning; (2nd) sequence of letters, not only one or two; (3rd) frequency of word use. Statistical analyses revealed significant positive correlations between conventional segmentation and morphosyntactic awareness. It is inferred that morphosyntactic skills support the establishment of the conventional notion of the word, and it is suggested that teachers promote the development of these skills, in order to ensure a greater command of the written language
Transmural Remission Improves Clinical Outcomes Up to 5 years in Crohn's Disease
Introduction: Evidence supporting transmural remission (TR) as a long-term treatment target in Crohn's disease (CD) is still unavailable. Less stringent but more reachable targets such as isolated endoscopic (IER) or radiologic remission (IRR) may also be acceptable options in the long-term.
Methods: Multicenter retrospective study including 404 CD patients evaluated by magnetic resonance enterography and colonoscopy. Five-year rates of hospitalization, surgery, use of steroids, and treatment escalation were compared between patients with TR, IER, IRR, and no remission (NR).
Results: 20.8% of CD patients presented TR, 23.3% IER, 13.6% IRR and 42.3% NR. TR was associated with lower risk of hospitalization (odds-ratio [OR] 0.244 [0.111-0.538], p < 0.001), surgery (OR 0.132 [0.030-0.585], p = 0.008), steroid use (OR 0.283 [0.159-0.505], p < 0.001), and treatment escalation (OR 0.088 [0.044-0.176], p < 0.001) compared to no NR. IRR resulted in lower risk of hospitalization (OR 0.333 [0.143-0.777], p = 0.011) and treatment escalation (OR 0.260 [0.125-0.540], p < 0.001), while IER reduced the risk of steroid use (OR 0.442 [0.262-0.745], p = 0.002) and treatment escalation (OR 0.490 [0.259-0.925], p = 0.028) compared to NR.
Conclusions: TR improved clinical outcomes over 5 years of follow-up in CD patients. Distinct but significant benefits were seen with IER and IRR. This suggests that both endoscopic and radiologic remission should be part of the treatment targets of CD.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
