Facial emotion recognition: spanish psychometric validation of a NIMSTIM stimuli subset.
Treball Final de Grau en Psicologia. Codi: PS1048. Curs: 2018/2019.Facial expressions are used to guide us and make us to understand the experiences that others
have towards us, and also to lead our behavior in an adaptive way. Facial expressions have a
communicative value as Darwin said, and their interpretation is of interest to researches
because of the links between emotional experience and facial expressions (Tottenham et al.,
2009). Nowadays, several sets of emotional facial pictures sets are currently available (Adolph
& Georg, 2010). However, these pictures sets are anything but uniform and vary extensively in
terms of physical characteristics. One of the most used databases is the NimSim set of facial
expressions (Tottenham et al., 2009). The purpose of this study is the psychometric validation
of a 367 stimuli from the NimStim into the Spanish population for the emotional facial
recognition. In this study, 127 students (105 women) participated. The task consisted of the
emotional facial recognition of the six basic emotions and one neutral expression. Repeated
measures ANOVA showed that type of motion, the type of mouth, and the interaction betweenthem, were statistically significant variables for the emotional facial expressions recognition. The
results showed that: a) The Spanish and American population follow the same pattern of
emotional facial expressions recognition (happiness is the best recognized emotion, and fear
the worst); 2) the type of mouth is an important moderator variable for the facial emotional
expressions recognition; and c) there are not significant gender differences in the facial
emotional recognition. The results of the present research empirically corroborate the validity
of the NimStim for its use in Spanish samples in the affective neuroscientific research,
particularly in the emotional facial expressions recognition field.
publicado para muestras norteamericanas (la alegría fue la mejor reconocida y el miedo la peor);
faciales emocionales
Analysing Human Mobility Patterns of Hiking Activities through Complex Network Theory
The exploitation of high volume of geolocalized data from social sport
tracking applications of outdoor activities can be useful for natural resource
planning and to understand the human mobility patterns during leisure
activities. This geolocalized data represents the selection of hike activities
according to subjective and objective factors such as personal goals, personal
abilities, trail conditions or weather conditions. In our approach, human
mobility patterns are analysed from trajectories which are generated by hikers.
We propose the generation of the trail network identifying special points in
the overlap of trajectories. Trail crossings and trailheads define our network
and shape topological features. We analyse the trail network of Balearic
Islands, as a case of study, using complex weighted network theory. The
analysis is divided into the four seasons of the year to observe the impact of
weather conditions on the network topology. The number of visited places does
not decrease despite the large difference in the number of samples of the two
seasons with larger and lower activity. It is in summer season where it is
produced the most significant variation in the frequency and localization of
activities from inland regions to coastal areas. Finally, we compare our model
with other related studies where the network possesses a different purpose. One
finding of our approach is the detection of regions with relevant importance
where landscape interventions can be applied in function of the communities.Comment: 20 pages, 9 figures, accepte
Sampling Theorem and Discrete Fourier Transform on the Hyperboloid
Using Coherent-State (CS) techniques, we prove a sampling theorem for
holomorphic functions on the hyperboloid (or its stereographic projection onto
the open unit disk ), seen as a homogeneous space of the
pseudo-unitary group SU(1,1). We provide a reconstruction formula for
bandlimited functions, through a sinc-type kernel, and a discrete Fourier
transform from samples properly chosen. We also study the case of
undersampling of band-unlimited functions and the conditions under which a
partial reconstruction from samples is still possible and the accuracy of
the approximation, which tends to be exact in the limit .Comment: 22 pages, 2 figures. Final version published in J. Fourier Anal. App
Experimentally Attainable Optimal Pulse Shapes Obtained with the Aid of Genetic Algorithms
We propose a methodology to design optimal pulses for achieving quantum
optimal control on molecular systems. Our approach constrains pulse shapes to
linear combinations of a fixed number of experimentally relevant pulse
functions. Quantum optimal control is obtained by maximizing a multi-target
fitness function with genetic algorithms. As a first application of the
methodology we generated an optimal pulse that successfully maximized the yield
on a selected dissociation channel of a diatomic molecule. Our pulse is
obtained as a linear combination of linearly chirped pulse functions. Data
recorded along the evolution of the genetic algorithm contained important
information regarding the interplay between radiative and diabatic processes.
We performed a principal component analysis on these data to retrieve the most
relevant processes along the optimal path. Our proposed methodology could be
useful for performing quantum optimal control on more complex systems by
employing a wider variety of pulse shape functions.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
Our aim is to quantify the GDP measurement bias derive from quality improvements in information technology sector. Using hedonic price indexes for IT goods, our results show that between 2000 and 2004 economic growth rate was approximately 2.18% on average per year –and not 1.60% as is established by the Mexican National Account System. The sensitivity of our results is explored applying IT price indexes of United States.price index, quality change, IT sector, economic growth
