The anisotropic XY model on the inhomogeneous periodic chain
The static and dynamic properties of the anisotropic XY-model on
the inhomogeneous periodic chain, composed of cells with different
exchange interactions and magnetic moments, in a transverse field are
determined exactly at arbitrary temperatures. The properties are obtained by
introducing the Jordan-Wigner fermionization and by reducing the problem to a
diagonalization of a finite matrix of order. The quantum transitions are
determined exactly by analyzing, as a function of the field, the induced
magnetization 1/n\sum_{m=1}^{n}\mu_{m}\left ( denotes
the cell, the site within the cell, the magnetic moment at site
within the cell) and the spontaneous magnetization which is obtained from the correlations for large spin separations. These results,
which are obtained for infinite chains, correspond to an extension of the ones
obtained by Tong and Zhong(\textit{Physica B} \textbf{304,}91 (2001)). The
dynamic correlations, , and the dynamic
susceptibility, are also obtained at arbitrary
temperatures. Explicit results are presented in the limit T=0, where the
critical behaviour occurs, for the static susceptibility as
a function of the transverse field , and for the frequency dependency of

Qualitative analysis of a scalar-tensor theory with exponential potential
A qualitative analysis of a scalar-tensor cosmological model, with an
exponential potential for the scalar field, is performed. The phase diagram for
the flat case is constructed. It is shown that solutions with an initial and
final inflationary behaviour appear. The conditions for which the scenario
favored by supernova type Ia observations becomes an attractor in the space of

Diffractive photoproduction at large momentum transfer in coherent hadron - hadron interactions at CERN LHC
The vector meson production in coherent hadron-hadron interactions at LHC
energies is studied assuming that the color singlet -channel exchange
carries large momentum transfer. We consider the non-forward solution of the
BFKL equation at high energy and large momentum transfer and estimate the
rapidity distribution and total cross section for the process , where can be a proton or a nucleus. We predict large rates,

Double diffractive meson production and the BFKL Pomeron at colliders
In this Letter we study the double diffractive vector meson production in
collisions assuming the dominance of the BFKL pomeron exchange. We
consider the non-forward solution of the BFKL equation at high energy and large
momentum transfer and estimate the total cross section for the process with antitagged and , where and can
be any two vector mesons (). The

Effects of gluon number fluctuations on photon - photon collisions at high energies
We investigate the effects of gluon number fluctuations on the total
, cross sections and the photon structure
function . Considering a model which relates the
dipole-dipole and dipole-hadron scattering amplitudes, we estimate these
observables by using event-by-event and physical amplitudes. We demonstrate
that both analyses are able to describe the LEP data, but predict different
behaviours for the observables at high energies, with the gluon fluctuations
effects decreasing the cross sections. We conclude that the study of interactions can be useful to constrain the QCD dynamics.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures. Improved version with two new figures. Version to

Physiological and vegetative behavior of banana cultivars under irrigation water salinity.
he purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of salinity levels of irrigation water on physiology and growth of banana cultivars during the vegetative stage. The experiment was carried out following a completely randomized design in split plots, with four levels of salinity in irrigation water (0.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 dS m-1) and fourbanana cultivars (Pacovan, Prata Anã, BRS Platina and Princesa) with three repetitions. Stomatal conductance, transpiration, relative water content, leaf water potential and proline concentration were evaluated at 150 days after transplanting (DAT), besides plant height, stem diameter and leaf area. All variables showed sensitivity to the increase of salinity level of irrigation water. The results of soil water extraction, relative water content in leaf (RWC), leaf water potential and proline content differed (p ? 0.05) among the cultivars. Prata Anã and BRS Platina cultivars were the ones with lowest sensitivity, while Pacovan and BRS Princesa cultivars showed larger variation of soil water extraction and RWC with the increase in irrigation water salinity (electrical conductivity), being considered the ones of highest sensitivity to salinity in this study. Banana crop growth as a consequence of physiological effects was inhibited by the increase in water salinity, mainly in ?BRS Princesa? cultiva
THEORETICAL ASSESSMENT OF A STIRLING ENGINE 'AMAZON' BY USING PROSA AND MATHCAD
This study describes how to build a prototype Stirling engine named Amazon, focusing on how to apply it to generate electric power in remote areas, with an expected power of 8 kW. Such engine was assessed theoretically by using two different computer software, i.e. PROSA and 'a model to simulate Stirling engines by the theory of Schmidt', which was formulated in Mathcad. The results from Mathcad software were on average 6.8% higher than the results from PROSA software. Such fact occurs since Mathcad does not consider the losses in a real system. Hence, the PROSA is generally more accurate in its results. Modeling performed in Mathcad presents higher values for partial loads and similar values for the project operating point
No-horizon theorem for spacetimes with spacelike G1 isometry groups
We consider four-dimensional spacetimes which obey the
Einstein equations , and admit a global spacelike
isometry group. By means of dimensional reduction and local
analyis on the reduced (2+1) spacetime, we obtain a sufficient condition on
which guarantees that cannot contain apparent
horizons. Given any (3+1) spacetime with spacelike translational isometry, the
no-horizon condition can be readily tested without the need for dimensional
reduction. This provides thus a useful and encompassing apparent horizon test
for -symmetric spacetimes. We argue that this adds further evidence
towards the validity of the hoop conjecture, and signals possible violations of

A rare cause of portal hypertension: case report
Apresenta-se caso clínico de doente com quadro de hipertensão portal pela presença de fístula artério-venosa entre a artéria gastroduodenal e a veia porta. Indivíduo do sexo masculino, de 77 anos, previamente saudável, com ascite volumosa de instalação recente. Hemorragia digestiva alta por rotura de varizes esofágicas.
TAC abdominal revelando acentuada dilatação da veia porta (30 mm), envolvida em fístula artério-venosa com origem na artéria gastroduodenal; fígado sem estigmas de hepatopatia crónica e sem nódulos; ascite volumosa. Procedeu-se à laparotomia com drenagem de ascite, isolamento e laqueação do trajecto fístuloso entre a artéria gastroduodenal e a veia porta. Sem complicações intra-operatórias.
Ao 18º dia, após regressão da ascite, teve alta medicado com diurético
