    Get PDF
A high-speed, complete deprotection of Boc group from Boc (Boc = tert-butoxycarbonyl) amino acids and protected peptide esters employing p-TsOH in toluene under microwave irradn. is found to be complete in 30 s. The deprotection can be carried out in methanol and acetonitrile also. Under the present conditions, C-peptide benzyl esters and O-benzyl ethers have been found to be stable. This has permitted us to carry out the synthesis of [Leu]enkephalin employing the Boc/Bzl-group strategy. Further more, it has been found that both Nα-Fmoc (Fmoc = 9-fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl) and Nα-Z (Z = benzyloxycarbonyl) groups are completely stable. The present conditions can be extended for the concomitant removal of the Boc group and the formation of C-benzyl amino acid esters as well. This has been utilized for the synthesis of N-Me amino acid benzyl esters starting from Boc-N-Me amino acids in a single step

Vegetatively propagated crops like Jasminum auriculatum have a constraint in genetic variation due to a narrow genetic base that restricts the insights in any crop breeding programme. Mutation breeding is a potential tool that directs a way to create desirable variation effectively in vegetatively propagated crops. The optimum dose of mutagen is the one which produces the maximum frequency of mutation in turn the variation, with minimum killing. The aim of the present paper unveils the Lethal Dose (LD50) and the growth reduction dose (GR50) for both Gamma irradiation (GI) and Ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) for the ecotype ‘Muthu Mullai’ of Jasminum auriculatum. These parameters of GR and EMS treated cuttings were analysed by considering the GR50 values of the mortality rate (57%, 48%), survival percentage (12.479Gy, 13.268mM), shoot length (18.59Gy, 18.28mM), root length (20.39Gy, 18.17mM), number of leaves (22.29Gy, 17.47mM), number of sprouts (22.97Gy, 16.17mM), vigour index (10.43Gy, 11.05mM), leaf length (21.61Gy, 19.90mM) and leaf width (19.2Gy, 16.17mM). The LD50 value was 12.479 Gy for GI and 13.268 mM for EMS treatment. The GR50 for different growth parameters ranged from 14.93 to 22.9 Gy for GI and 1.05 to 19.9 mM for EMS treatment. The mutagenic efficiency and effectiveness were 214.96 and 89.36 for GI and 48.66 and 33.77 for EMS treatment, respectively. These doses can be used for generating considerable variation, which can be put to use in future crop improvement programmes for Jasmine

    Get PDF
This paper gives a summary of the temporary works and methods applied to enable the construction of bridges near third party assets. The temporary structures have a significant impact on the cost, construction method and construction safety of the supported permanent structures. In the literature, there are many examples of how the temporary works could fail catastrophically and could endanger public life if hazard identification, risk assessment and quality checks are not carried out by competent people or organisations. A brief literature survey of the construction techniques is outlined here. This paper looks at more recent failures and draws some more lessons with a re-emphasis on the use of industry established processes, guidelines for preventing catastrophic events. The paper also describes case histories, where mitigation measures are implemented in order to ensure safety by means of independent checks, monitoring and back analysis

    Get PDF
Cloud services are proposed for real-time data acquisition, data classification, data processing and decision making, which are highly interconnected services for effective condition monitoring of electrical machines. The proposed Software as a Service, Storage as a Service and Platform as a Service layers address the challenges of data storage and scalability while making analysis on the cluster of machines in an Industrial Environment. An experimental setup consisting of two DC motors coupled to AC Generator operating at different locations is considered to evolve the proposed model for effective integrated monitoring and decision making. This cloud-based vibration monitoring model provides services for data acquisition from the IoT devices mounted on the shafts of the DC motors, data storage to store the enormous amount of acquired signal data from multiple sensors, data classification of vibration signals for effective statistical analysis to estimate adaptive cluster of thresholds and appropriate decision-making services on demand over the Internet to utilize the reliable service of the machines in a persistent way. The computational engine will do inherent statistical analysis of the vibration signals to estimate the cluster of thresholds adaptive to various operating conditions. The services have been deployed without any limitation in a cloud environment and the industrial applications can share information using the deployed services from anywhere on demand basis. The deployed cloud service for the enhanced statistical classification algorithm eliminates the false identification of failures, which not only increase the availability of machines for intended operations but also reduce the maintenance cost. The resulting threshold values are compared with that of the vibration analysis carried out on the machine beds locally using myRIO for data acquisition in LabVIEW and the proposed model ensures the integrity in appropriate decision making with assured scalability
