63-66Mineral content was determined in different brown seaweeds (Sargassum wightii, Padina tetrastromatica, Chnoospora minima, Hormophysa triquetra, Sargassum myriocystum, Sargassum plagiophyllum and Sargassum ilicifolium), collected from Mandapam region (Gulf of Mannar), Southeast coast of India. The ash content of different seaweeds ranged from 15 % to 20.5 %. The ash values were significantly different among the seaweeds (P˂ 0.05). The selected brown seaweeds contained both macro elements (0.77-564.5 mg/100g; Na, K, Ca, Mg) and trace elements (0.1-4.83 mg/100g; Zn, Mn, Fe, Cu). The present study was carried out in some of the underutilized brown seaweeds and it was concluded that the selected species can be used as feed additives in future.</span

Two Modular Equationsfor Squares of the Cubic-functions with Applications

    Get PDF
In this paper, we derive two modular identities for cubic functions and are shown to be connected to the Ramanujan cubic continued fraction G(q). Also we have derived many theta function identities which play an important role in proving Ramanujan’s modular equations of degree 3

INTRODUCTION: Diabetes mellitus is a ubiquitous disease with an ancient history. It is common, being present in approximately 3% of adult population. Diabetes is an important cause of blindness in people of working age. Although we often think of retinal changes, it must not be forgotten that other parts of the visual system are affected in diabetics. Diabetes increases the possibility of cataract and is the next common cause blindness after diabetic retinopathy. Cataract is a common complication of diabetes indeed it has been estimated that upto 15% of cataract surgery is performed on diabetics. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study is to find the incidence of cataract with regard to age, sex, the complications of the cataract surgery, (Per-operative and post-operative) and visual outcome after surgery in a diabetic population. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective study was carried out in the Department of Ophthalmology, Stanley Medical College & Hospital, Chennai, from October 2003 to December 2005. One hundred patients having diabetes who presented to our department for cataract surgery were included in the study. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION Hundred diabetic patients who underwent cataract surgery were evaluated. Diabetes leads to an increase in age related cataract development and more so in females. The typical snowflake diabetic cataract has become a rare entity and the cortical variety is the commonest. Hypertension and IHD were found to be more associated with diabetes

LINE RATE HARDWARE FLOW TELEMETRY ARCHITECTURE ON FIBRE CHANNEL APPLICATION-SPECIFIC INTEGRATED CIRCUIT

    Get PDF
Techniques are provided herein for offering line rate flow telemetry on all ports of a Fibre Channel (FC) switch by implementing a bidirectional flow correlation engine inside an FC switching Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). This enables a specialized set of flow analytics solutions to be implemented using machine learning models. These models may be trained with full flow visibility, including every outlier, and may have very high prediction accuracy. This may enable building of a switch integrated solution for this use case without involving external appliances

In the title compound C14H17N3O2, the dihedral angle between the rings is 16.68 (13)°. Although the compound crystallizes in the keto form, the possibility of keto-enamine–enol-imine tautomerism is explained by a strong intramolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bond

In the title compound, C13H10BrNO, the benzene ring planes are inclined at an angle of 48.85 (17)°, resulting in a nonplanar molecule. A characteristic of aromatic Schiff bases with N-aryl substituents is that the terminal phenyl rings are twisted relative to the HC=N plane. In this case, the HC=N unit makes dihedral angles of 11.1 (4) and 38.5 (3)° with the hydroxybenzene and bromobenzene rings, respectively. In the crystal, the molecules are linked by O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds to form infinite (C8) chains along the b axis

In the title compound, C14H13NO, the two rings show significant deviation from coplanarity, with a dihedral angle between the two planes of 49.40 (5)°. The hydroxy group is involved in an intermolecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bond, forming an extended one-dimensional zigzag chain along (001)

Leonotis nepetifolia (L) R.Br commonly known as Lion’s ear, has number of therapeutic properties and is also known as Christmas candlestic. The genus Leonotis has 12 species widely distributed in Pan Tropics and is represented by one species, Leonotis nepetifolia in India. It belongs to family Lamiaceae. Leonotis nepetifolia is an economically important medicinal plant of repute in Indian traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha. The Ayurvedic name of the plant is Granthiparni, while the trade name is Barchi Buti. It has many therapeutic properties and proved in Madagascar, Brazil, Canada, Kenya and many African Countries to treat diseases, rheumatism, dysmenorrhoea, bronchial asthma, fever, diarrhoea influenza and malaria and is also an analgesic. The decoction of the leaves is used to treat coughs, burns and skin ailments. The whole plant is used for menstrual pain and unspecified female complaints. This plant exhibited various pharmacological activities such as antioxidant activity, antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, wound healing, hepatoprotective activity and antimicrobial activities. Phytochemical examination of this plant indicated the presence of alkaloids (leonurine and stachydrene), iridoid glycoside (leonuride), iridoid glycosides (leonurin and leonuridine), diterpenoids (leocardin), flavonoids (rutin, quercetin, hyperoside, apigenin), volatile oil, tannins and vitamin A. Leonotis nepetifolia is highly therapeutic and is used in various Ayurvedic formulations. This article briefly reviews the pharmacological and various therapeutic aspect of Leonotis nepetifolia
