GRB 110205A: Anatomy of a long gamma-ray burst
The Swift burst GRB 110205A was a very bright burst visible in the Northern
hemisphere. GRB 110205A was intrinsically long and very energetic and it
occurred in a low-density interstellar medium environment, leading to delayed
afterglow emission and a clear temporal separation of the main emitting
components: prompt emission, reverse shock, and forward shock. Our observations
show several remarkable features of GRB 110205A : the detection of prompt
optical emission strongly correlated with the BAT light curve, with no temporal
lag between the two ; the absence of correlation of the X-ray emission compared
to the optical and high energy gamma-ray ones during the prompt phase ; and a
large optical re-brightening after the end of the prompt phase, that we
interpret as a signature of the reverse shock. Beyond the pedagogical value
offered by the excellent multi-wavelength coverage of a GRB with temporally
separated radiating components, we discuss several questions raised by our
observations: the nature of the prompt optical emission and the spectral
evolution of the prompt emission at high-energies (from 0.5 keV to 150 keV) ;
the origin of an X-ray flare at the beginning of the forward shock; and the
modeling of the afterglow, including the reverse shock, in the framework of the

The Puzzling Mutual Orbit of the Binary Trojan Asteroid (624) Hektor
Asteroids with satellites are natural laboratories to constrain the formation
and evolution of our solar system. The binary Trojan asteroid (624) Hektor is
the only known Trojan asteroid to possess a small satellite. Based on W.M. Keck
adaptive optics observations, we found a unique and stable orbital solution,
which is uncommon in comparison to the orbits of other large multiple asteroid
systems studied so far. From lightcurve observations recorded since 1957, we
showed that because the large Req=125-km primary may be made of two joint
lobes, the moon could be ejecta of the low-velocity encounter, which formed the
system. The inferred density of Hektor's system is comparable to the L5 Trojan
doublet (617) Patroclus but due to their difference in physical properties and
in reflectance spectra, both captured Trojan asteroids could have a different

Orbit determination of Transneptunian objects and Centaurs for the prediction of stellar occultations
The prediction of stellar occultations by Transneptunian objects and Centaurs
is a difficult challenge that requires accuracy both in the occulted star
position as for the object ephemeris. Until now, the most used method of
prediction involving tens of TNOs/Centaurs was to consider a constant offset
for the right ascension and for the declination with respect to a reference
ephemeris. This offset is determined as the difference between the most recent
observations of the TNO and the reference ephemeris. This method can be
successfully applied when the offset remains constant with time. This paper
presents an alternative method of prediction based on a new accurate orbit
determination procedure, which uses all the available positions of the TNO from
the Minor Planet Center database plus sets of new astrometric positions from
unpublished observations. The orbit determination is performed through a
numerical integration procedure (NIMA), in which we develop a specific
weighting scheme. The NIMA method was applied for 51 selected TNOs/Centaurs.
For this purpose, we have performed about 2900 new observations during
2007-2014. Using NIMA, we succeed in predicting the stellar occultations of 10
TNOs and 3 Centaurs between 2013 and 2015. By comparing the NIMA and JPL
ephemerides, we highlighted the variation of the offset between them with time.
Giving examples, we show that the constant offset method could not accurately
predict 6 out of the 13 observed positive occultations successfully predicted
by NIMA. The results indicate that NIMA is capable of efficiently refine the
orbits of these bodies. Finally, we show that the astrometric positions given
by positive occultations can help to further refine the orbit of the TNO and
consequently the future predictions. We also provide the unpublished
observations of the 51 selected TNOs and their ephemeris in a usable format by

“Leptin and leptin receptor expression in asthma”
Background: The adipokine leptin is a potential new mediator
for bronchial epithelial homeostasis. Asthma is a chronic
inflammatory disease characterized by airway remodeling that
might affect disease chronicity and severity. TGF-b is a tissue
growth factor the dysregulation of which is associated with
airway remodeling.
Objective: We sought to determine whether a bronchial
epithelial dysfunction of the leptin/leptin receptor pathway
contributes to asthma pathogenesis and severity.
Methods: We investigated in vitro the presence of leptin/leptin
receptor on human bronchial epithelial cells. Then we studied
the effect of TGF-b and fluticasone propionate on leptin
receptor expression. Finally, the role of leptin on TGF-b release
and cell proliferation was analyzed. Ex vivo we investigated the
presence of leptin/leptin receptor in the epithelium of bronchial
biopsy specimens from subjects with asthma of various
severities and from healthy volunteers, and some features of
airway remodeling, such as reticular basement membrane
(RBM) thickness and TGF-b expression in the epithelium, were
assessed.
Results: In vitro bronchial epithelial cells express leptin/leptin
receptor. TGF-b decreased and fluticasone propionate increased
leptin receptor expression, and leptin decreased the spontaneous
release of TGF-b and increased cell proliferation. Ex vivo the
bronchial epithelium of subjects with mild, uncontrolled,
untreated asthma showed a decrease expression of leptin and its
receptor and an increased RBM thickness and TGF-b
expression when compared with values seen in healthy
volunteers. Furthermore, severe asthma was associated with a
reduced expression of leptin and its receptor and an increased
RBM thickness with unaltered TGF-b expression.
Conclusions: Decreased expression of leptin/leptin receptor
characterizes severe asthma and is associated with airway
remodeling features
Triplicity and Physical Characteristics of Asteroid (216) Kleopatra
To take full advantage of the September 2008 opposition passage of the M-type
asteroid (216) Kleopatra, we have used near-infrared adaptive optics (AO)
imaging with the W.M. Keck II telescope to capture unprecedented high
resolution images of this unusual asteroid. Our AO observations with the W.M.
Keck II telescope, combined with Spitzer/IRS spectroscopic observations and
past stellar occultations, confirm the value of its IRAS radiometric radius of
67.5 km as well as its dog-bone shape suggested by earlier radar observations.
Our Keck AO observations revealed the presence of two small satellites in orbit
about Kleopatra (see Marchis et al., 2008). Accurate measurements of the
satellite orbits over a full month enabled us to determine the total mass of
the system to be 4.64+/-0.02 10^18 Kg. This translates into a bulk density of
3.6 +/-0.4 g/cm3, which implies a macroscopic porosity for Kleopatra of ~
30-50%, typical of a rubble-pile asteroid. From these physical characteristics
we measured its specific angular momentum, very close to that of a spinning

Observational detection of eclipses of J5 Amalthea by the Galilean satellites
We carried out observations of the small jovian satellite Amalthea (J5) as it
was being eclipsed by the Galilean satellites near the 2009 equinox of Jupiter
in order to apply the technique of mutual event photometry to the astrometric
determination of this satellite's position. The observations were carried out
during the period 06/2009-09/2009 from the island of Maui, Hawaii and Siding
Spring, Australia with the 2m Faulkes Telescopes North and South respectively.
We observed in the near-infrared part of the spectrum using a PanStarrs-Z
filter with Jupiter near the edge of the field in order to mitigate against the
glare from the planet. Frames were acquired at rates >1/min during eclipse
times predicted using recent JPL ephemerides for the satellites. Following
subtraction of the sky background from these frames, differential aperture
photometry was carried out on Amalthea and a nearby field star. We have
obtained three lightcurves which show a clear drop in the flux from Amalthea,
indicating that an eclipse took place as predicted. These were model-fitted to
yield best estimates of the time of maximum flux drop and the impact parameter.
These are consistent with Amalthea's ephemeris but indicate that Amalthea is
slightly ahead of, and closer to Jupiter than, its predicted position by
approximately half the ephemeris uncertainty in these directions. We argue that
a ground-based campaign of higher-cadence photometry accurate at the 5% level
or better during the next season of eclipses in 2014-15 should yield positions
to within 0".5 and affect a corresponding improvement in Amalthea's ephemeris.Comment: Published in A&A in 2010; 6 pages, 2 figures, 3 table
Comparison of anti-interleukin-5 therapies in patients with severe asthma: global and indirect meta-analyses of randomized placebo-controlled trials
International audienceInconsistent results have been reported regarding IL-5 blockade treatment in asthma. There were no direct between-treatment comparisons. Only differences between each drug and placebo were studied. We identified all RCTs with anti-IL5 treatments for patients with asthma over the 1990-September 2015 period. RCTs were searched on Medline, Cochrane and Embase. At least 50 patients were enrolled in each study. Outcomes considered were exacerbation rate reduction, FEV1 changes, ACQ-5 improvement, adverse events and serious adverse events. A global meta-analysis was first conducted followed by an indirect comparison of each IL-5-targeting drug: benralizumab, reslizumab and mepolizumab. Further eosinophilic subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were also conducted in case of heterogeneity. Ten trials involving 3421 patients were eligible for meta-analysis. IL-5 blockade significantly reduced annual exacerbation rates vs. placebo by 40% [29-50] (P < 0.01, I2 = 0.61). ACQ-5 was significantly improved vs. placebo but below the recognized MCID level (-0.31 [-0.41, -0.21], P < 0.01, I2 = 0.11). FEV1 changes from baseline were improved vs. placebo by 0.09 L [0.05-0.12] (P < 0.01, I2 = 0.28). The subgroup analysis identified a slight additional improvement in mean treatment effects in eosinophilic (> 300 mm3 /L) patients with severe asthma. Similar patterns and rates of adverse events and severe adverse events were reported with the three drugs. The data interpretations were not affected by the sensitivity analysis. IL-5 blockade appears to be a relevant treatment strategy to improve severe asthma management, particularly for eosinophilic patients. No clear superiority appeared between the drugs when appropriate doses were compared
739 observed NEAs and new 2-4m survey statistics within the EURONEAR network
We report follow-up observations of 477 program Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs)
using nine telescopes of the EURONEAR network having apertures between 0.3 and
4.2 m. Adding these NEAs to our previous results we now count 739 program NEAs
followed-up by the EURONEAR network since 2006. The targets were selected using
EURONEAR planning tools focusing on high priority objects. Analyzing the
resulting orbital improvements suggests astrometric follow-up is most important
days to weeks after discovery, with recovery at a new opposition also valuable.
Additionally we observed 40 survey fields spanning three nights covering 11 sq.
degrees near opposition, using the Wide Field Camera on the 2.5m Isaac Newton
Telescope (INT), resulting in 104 discovered main belt asteroids (MBAs) and
another 626 unknown one-night objects. These fields, plus program NEA fields
from the INT and from the wide field MOSAIC II camera on the Blanco 4m
telescope, generated around 12,000 observations of 2,000 minor planets (mostly
MBAs) observed in 34 square degrees. We identify Near Earth Object (NEO)
candidates among the unknown (single night) objects using three selection
criteria. Testing these criteria on the (known) program NEAs shows the best
selection methods are our epsilon-miu model which checks solar elongation and
sky motion and the MPC's NEO rating tool. Our new data show that on average 0.5
NEO candidates per square degree should be observable in a 2m-class survey (in
agreement with past results), while an average of 2.7 NEO candidates per square
degree should be observable in a 4m-class survey (although our Blanco
statistics were affected by clouds). At opposition just over 100 MBAs (1.6
unknown to every 1 known) per square degree are detectable to R=22 in a 2m
survey based on the INT data, while our two best ecliptic Blanco fields away
