    Get PDF
This study aims to striking differences between emotions in the real world, and emoticons of the digital world are the key focus areas as emotions play a crucial role in communication. It is undeniable that the emoticons of the digital world have changed altogether the way language is being perceived. This study also insists that while teaching time management and soft skills to students, it is vital to teaching digital communication (expressions via online). Therefore, it may need to be stressed in the curriculum. Conversation analysis or 'talk-in-interaction, a communication strategy, insists that everyday conversations have significance on the initiator—the method using the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory (ESCI) to get the analysis done. The results confirm a significant relationship between emotional intelligence (particularly on the clusters of self-management, social awareness, and relationship management) and communication skills

The extant literature indicates that social work is a high stress profession owing to multifarious and complex demands of practice. There is also evidence of stress experienced by student trainees who aspire for a career in social work. Working with service users and the distressing life scenarios encountered on placement often involves negotiating complex emotions and requires reflective skills. Effective practice requires rapport building skills and the ability to demonstrate empathy is a core skill for effective practice. While there is a plethora of Western literature on these issues, the Indian literature has not adequately explored them. Framed against this background, this quantitative study collected data from students of all three years of their undergraduate social work course from a ‘women only’ college in India. Standardised instruments to assess empathy, reflective ability and emotional intelligence were administered. Statistical tests revealed a higher manifestation of these dimensions in final-year students than those in the first year. Further it was seen that the total emotional intelligence and empathy scores were positively correlated. Implications of these findings for the education and training of social work students has also been discussed in this article

    Iso-array rewriting P systems with context-free iso-array rules

    Get PDF
A new computing model called P system is a highly distributed and parallel theoretical model, which is proposed in the area of membrane computing. Ceterchi et al. initially proposed array rewriting P systems by extending the notion of string rewriting P systems to arrays (2003). A theoretical model for picture generation using context-free iso-array grammar rules and puzzle iso-array grammar rules are introduced by Kalyani et al. (2004, 2006). Also iso-array rewriting P systems for iso-picture languages have been studied by Annadurai et al. (2008). In this paper we consider the context-free iso-array rules and context-free puzzle iso-array rules in iso-array rewriting P systems and examine the generative powers of these P systems

Social work is a stressful occupation but continues to attract large numbers of students every year. This study was conducted by undergraduate students of all three cohorts at a women’s-only college in Tiruchirapalli in South India (N = 73). Standardised instruments to assess stress, anxiety, resilience and coping were administered. It was seen that anxiety and stress levels were relatively higher in the first- and third-year students while compared to those in the second year of their course, while resilience and coping was relatively low in the first-year group. Correlations were significantly positive for the stress and anxiety scores as well as the coping and resilience scores. However, it was seen that only the anxiety scores significantly predicted the manifestation of stress in the students. Implications of the findings and the limitations of the study have also been discussed

Digital Divide: Alarming Agenda of Marxism on the Digital Education Sector

    Get PDF
As this world progresses towards a phase where digital modes of education are no longer considered optional, it has become mandatory and the only means of schooling due to the effects of the pandemic, Covid-19. The education sector is now entirely under the wing of digitalization to accomplish its objectives. Even though education can only be carried out through digital means, the ease of accessibility for digital modes for people from every socioeconomic sector cannot establish the concept of 'Digital Divide.' This term explains the breach between people who do not have the resources to utilize the digital realm.  This breach between the people in the Digital Divide universe lurks the agendas of Marxism. The people who are privileged to access digital life are the ones who are from a well-established socioeconomic background/ sector, and the underprivileged ones are from a sector where the accessibility of the digital modes of life, even for education, are hectic because of their socioeconomic standards. Thereby, an image of how Marxist agendas is on the Digital Divide's shadows can be seen

Reduced rating T-connected autotransformer based thirty-pulse AC-DC converter for vector controlled induction motor drives

    Get PDF
The design and performance analysis of a reduced rating autotransformer based thirty-pulse AC-DC converter is carried out for feeding a vector controlled induction motor drive (VCIMD). The configuration of the proposed autotransformer consists of only two single phase transformers, with their windings connected in a T-shape, resulting in simplicity in design, manufacturing and in a reduction in magnetics rating. The design procedure of the autotransformer along with the newly designed interphase transformer is presented. The proposed configuration has flexibility in varying the transformer output voltage ratios as required. The design of the autotransformer can be modified for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse diode bridge rectifier is used. The proposed thirty-pulse AC-DC converter is capable of suppressing less than 29th harmonics in the supply current. The power factor is also improved to near unity in the wide operating range of the drive. A comparison of different power quality indices at AC mains and DC bus is demonstrated in a conventional 6-pulse AC-DC converter and the proposed AC-DC converter feeding a VCIMD. A laboratory prototype of the proposed autotransformer based 30-pulse AC-DC converter was developed with test results validating the proposed design and system

Reconstructing Gender Roles using Collective Memory (Process) through Select Indian Commercials

    Get PDF
Collective memory as a process implies that social groups' collective memory in society, changes and develops over time. The paper adopts a phenomenological study using Yadin Dudai’s ‘collective memory as a process’, in the interest of assessing how shifting collective memory (process) of gender roles in society influences the depiction of gender roles in Indian television commercials. Further, it goes on to explain how such advertisements can also impact society's collective memory of gender roles. The study investigates the issue of whether or not there has been a shift in how gender roles are portrayed in commercials in association with the collective memory (process) of society. Studying this change in the portrayal of gender roles in television advertising does indeed have broader implications as to how society perceives gender roles, emphasizing the significance of this study. The research findings show that there has been a noticeable change in how women are portrayed in television commercials as sporting champions, motorists, successful politicians, and business personnel in relation to the changing collective memory of society. The study ultimately determines that the influence of commercials on modifying society's collective memory of gender roles and the influence of collective memory on the evolution of gender role depictions in commercials are reciprocal in nature

An input current waveshaping AC-DC converter for rectifier loads

    Get PDF
This paper presents the design and analysis of a new input AC current waveshaping AC-DC converter for cost effective harmonic mitigation under varying loads. The proposed converter consists of a delta-polygon connected autotransformer based twelve-pulse AC-DC converter and a small rating passive shunt filter tuned at 11th harmonic frequency. The proposed AC-DC converter eliminates the most dominant 5th, 7th and 11th harmonics and reduces higher order harmonics; thereby, resulting in an improved power quality at AC mains. Moreover, the design of the autotransformer is modified to make it suitable for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse diode bridge rectifier is used. To validate the proposed approach, various power quality indices are presented under varying loads. Experimental results obtained on the developed converter are given to validate the model and design of the proposed converter

Blood Biochemical Parameters in Carcinoma Breast.

    Get PDF
Tumors or ulcers of breast have been reported as early as 1600 BC as reported in ancient Egyptian chronicles, the Papyrus. Currently carcinoma breast is the most common Malignancy and the most common cause of cancer deaths in women worldwide. In India, Carcinoma breast is the second most common malignancy in women. Mammography, ultrasonography are being used for screening of breast cancer while Tissue diagnosis is the gold standard for diagnosis of breast cancer. Cancer that is Detected early can potentially be cured when the tumor is small enough to be completely Removed surgically. Unfortunately, most cancers do not produce any symptoms until the Tumors are either too large to be removed surgically or cancerous cells have metastasized. Hence there is a need to detect cancer at an early stage. Tumor markers are used for the detection of risk, population screening, diagnosis, staging And prognosis. It can also predict the response to therapy, monitor treatment, detect the Presence of occult metastatic disease, and monitor the course of the disease. Several Tumor markers are in use nowadays which include alpha fetoprotein, carcinoembryonic Antigen, human chorionic gonadotropin, prostate specific antigen, and relatively less Specific markers like lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, ferritin, and gamma Glutamyl transpeptidase. However the analytical method of many of these are Unapproachable for general population as the facilities for these are available only at Sophisticated and well equipped centers with latest technology and are expensive. There Is therefore a need for simple biochemical investigation which can be assayed, are less Expensive and can detect metastasis. This study was made to measure the levels of enzymes Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in patients With newly diagnosed carcinoma breast and study if there is any clinical correlation of the Levels of these enzymes with the presence of early untreated breast carcinoma
