A survey of the new algorithm-architecture interaction arising from the use of vector rotations as primitive computational units is presented . After a thorough review of various features of the CORDIC algorithm, the full range of architectures allowing its implementation is examined. The CORDIC operator's versatility is illustrated through an overview of the numerous digital signal processing and linear algebra algorithms where it can be applied, with special emphasis on normalized variants of classical algorithins .Cet article prĂ©sente une Ă©tude de synthĂšse sur une nouvelle interaction entre algorithmes et architectures rĂ©sultant de l'utilisation de rotations vectorielles comme primitives de calcul .

Background: In Cîte d’Ivoire, where the rate of undesired pregnancies is high, we were the first Maternity centre, to benefit from training on immediate postpartum insertion of intrauterine devices (IUD).  The objective of this study is to share our experience and present the results of this practice in our hospital. Methods: It was a prospective and descriptive cohort study from the 11th of November 2013 to the 30th of April 2016 including the patients who delivered at the maternity of CHU Treichville (University Hospital Centre, Abidjan, Cîte d’Ivoire), and had immediate postpartum IUD insertion, with a control 6 weeks later and then 3 months later. Results: 790 IUD have been, inserted to women with average age and gravidity of respectively 31.3 years old (13-52 years) and 4.4 (1-12 pregnancies). Most of our patients had a low socioeconomic status (poor education: 51.1%; not married: 59.9%). The counseling occurred during the latent phase of the labour for 57.2% of the women and the major parts of the IUD (59, 1%) were insert during a caesarean section. We noticed a poor rate of default patients (14 lost after 3 months), no complications but 9% of side effects (spontaneous expulsion, missing string). During the follow up period, four patients decided to remove the device. One of them for pelvic pain and three for a non-motivated request of the patients. Conclusions: Our experience shows that on immediate postpartum insertion of IUD is possible in our environment

Functionnally asynchronous VLSI cellular array for morphological filtering of images

    Get PDF
The design of a fine grain asynchronous VLSI cellular array is presented . It is shown how asynchronism can be exploited at both functional and structural levels . A joint algorithmic-architectural study has led to the fabrication of an integrated circuit including 16x16 processing elements .The data and control paths are designed using a standard-cell approach, combining CMOS and DCVSL (Differential Cascode Voltage Switch Logic) gates . The 800,000 transistor circuit enables real time morphological filtering of images.

Iterative Model-based Identification of Building Components and Appliances by Means of Sensor-Actuator Networks

2nd Workshop on eeBuildings Data Models, CIB W078 ‐ W102, Sophia Antipolis ‐ FranceA key challenge for home/building automation applications, especially energy management, is to enable the indirect integration of legacy home/building appliances and building components that do not have a network connection to the home/building network, to make it possible to monitor and partially control them. We propose a mechanism and system for the iterative identification and self-configuration of these devices through a shared backplane of networked sensors and actuators available in the building. This makes it possible to integrate these devices and interface them through a software proxy as if they were state of the art networked devices, thus extending the range of the network and the associated middleware towards all kinds of physical entities of that make up the home/building. These entities are supposed to be described in a model repository and a domain-specific ontology. The matching of the entities being discovered in the home/building environment to these known models is done by analog pattern matching, instead of requiring an exact match as would be the case with a standard digital networks protocol, so that it lends itself to iterative approximation. The architecture and OSGi-based implementation of this system are described. Examples are provided for typical home appliances and other subsystems of the home/building that may be dealt with in a similar way

What is the optimal shape of a pipe?

    Get PDF
We consider an incompressible fluid in a three-dimensional pipe, following the Navier-Stokes system with classical boundary conditions. We are interested in the following question: is there any optimal shape for the criterion "energy dissipated by the fluid"? Moreover, is the cylinder the optimal shape? We prove that there exists an optimal shape in a reasonable class of admissible domains, but the cylinder is not optimal. For that purpose, we explicit the first order optimality condition, thanks to adjoint state and we prove that it is impossible that the adjoint state be a solution of this over-determined system when the domain is the cylinder. At last, we show some numerical simulations for that problem

Anatomical study of serotonergic innervation and 5-HT1A receptor in the human spinal cord

    Get PDF
Serotonergic innervation of the spinal cord in mammals has multiple roles in the control of motor, sensory and visceral functions. In rats, functional consequences of spinal cord injury at thoracic level can be improved by a substitutive transplantation of serotonin (5-HT) neurons or regeneration under the trophic influence of grafted stem cells. Translation to either pharmacological and/or cellular therapies in humans requires the mapping of the spinal cord 5-HT innervation and its receptors to determine their involvement in specific functions. Here, we have performed a preliminary mapping of serotonergic processes and serotonin-lA (5-HT1A) receptors in thoracic and lumbar segments of the human spinal cord. As in rodents and non-human primates, 5-HT profiles in human spinal cord are present in the ventral horn, surrounding motoneurons, and also contact their presumptive dendrites at lumbar level. 5-HT1A receptors are present in the same area, but are more densely expressed at lumbar level. 5-HT profiles are also present in the intermediolateral region, where 5-HT1A receptors are absent. Finally, we observed numerous serotonergic profiles in the superficial part (equivalent of Rexed lamina II) of the dorsal horn, which also displayed high levels of 5-HT1A receptors. These findings pave the way for local specific therapies involving cellular and/or pharmacological tools targeting the serotonergic system
