    How autonomous should schools be? Research based on teacher opinions

    The study intended to contribute to the quality of schools and teachers with the help of suggestions obtained from data and to shed light on regulations in school autonomy. Qualitative research method, which was thought to be more convenient to examine cases in depth, was used in this study and phenomenology was adopted. In order to provide maximum diversity, twenty four voluntary teachers were chosen from pre-school (5 teachers), primary school (7 teachers), secondary school (7 teachers) and high school (5 teachers). Following results were obtained related to more effective school management:  Decisions related to teacher dismissal and dismissal of other staff should be taken by upper educational managers and not by schools; schools should be given full autonomy in making decisions about duties  and responsibilities of school managers, giving overtime to teachers and other staff, paying for additional courses, choosing school managers, appointing substitutes for absent teachers and other staff and deciding the duties and responsibilities of teachers and other staff. Before schools and teachers are provided with more autonomy, effective, sufficient and qualified school managers should be selected, trained and assigned. Financial issues should be audited externally and controlled carefully

    CANDIDATES TEACHERS' CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT SELF-EFFICACY LEVELS

    This research aimed to determine the classroom management self-efficacy beliefs of students have been studying in Faculty of Education and students have been maintaining pedagogical formation certificate program. It employed survey model. The study group was composed of 362 trainees who attended to pedagogical formation certificate program in Duzce University in 2015/16 academic year spring term and 255 sophomores, junior and senior class students in Classroom Teaching and Science Teaching Departments in Duzce University Faculty of Education in 2015/16 academic year. In the study, it was aimed to reach the whole population and a scale was implemented instead of sampling. The research was conducted with 410 returning scales. “Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale” was conducted in order to determine the classroom management self-efficacy perceptions of the student teachers. Since the data were not normally distributed, Mann-Whitney U Test which is a nonparametric test. The following results were obtained: Classroom management self-efficacy perceptions of the students who have been studying in Faculty of Education and students who have been attending the pedagogical formation certificate program are high in terms of “Providing the student participation”, “Utilization of Teaching Strategies” and “Classroom management”. The difference between the classroom management self-efficacy perception averages of the two groups was not statistically meaningful. Also, there was no statistically meaningful difference between the students who have been studying in Faculty of Education and students who have been attending the pedagogical formation certificate program in terms of gender variable.  Article visualizations

    Distributed Leadership in Educational Institutions

    In recent years, many studies are conducted about shared leadership process. Distributed leadership (DL) approach addresses leadership along with teams, groups and organizational characteristics. In practice, this approach objects the supposition that an individual should take the lead in order to ensure change. Proponents of this idea claim that shared leadership is required since educational institutions are too complex to be managed with only one individual. Responsibility for managing various complex tasks in organizations is distributed among a myriad of individuals with different roles. The basic principle advocated in this approach is based on the futility of efforts to ascertain a series of best single leader characteristics or best single leader behaviors.     In this thesis, we study a Stochastic Disassembly Line Balancing Problem (SDLBP) with hazardous tasks. We define success and failure events for each hazardous task and describe several scenarios over all hazardous tasks. Our aim is to maximize expected profit over all scenarios. We construct mathematical model with one, two and three hazardous tasks. Then, general formulation both in nonlinear and linear form is studied. We test the performance of the model on randomly generated data using the networks taken from the literature. Moreover, we study the Value of Stochastic Solution (VSS) which is the added value of considering uncertainty in a decision. The limits of the SDLBP models are observed by the increase of number of tasks in a network and by the increase in number of hazardous tasks.     An analysis of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy complications

    Objective: To determine the indications of early and late complications in 224 patients who underwent Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) procedure. Study Design: Observational study. Place and Duration of Study: Department of General Surgery, Karatay University and Medipol University, Turkey, from January 2014 to December 2020. Methodology: Patients' age, gender, primary diseases, PEG indications, morbidity, mortality, and complications were recorded by performing the PEG procedure. Hospitalisation, follow-up periods of the patients, and the re-insertion of PEG were evaluated. Results: The most common indication for PEG tube insertion was nutritional disorder associated with cerebrovascular diseases in 81 (37%) patients. No mortality was perceived due to the PEG tube insertion. However, mortality was observed in 84 (38.4%) patients in the first six months, in 6 (2.7%) patients between the sixth and twelfth month, and in 8 (3.7%) patients after the twelfth month. All these mortalities were attributed to the primary disease. In the early and late periods, complications were observed in the total of 45 (20.4%) patients. Among them, 17 (7.7%) patients experienced early period complications, whereas 28 (12.7%) patients experienced late period complications. Conclusion: Enteral nutrition should be preferred in order to avoid complications of parenteral nutrition in the patients who need long-term nutrition. In enteral nutrition, PEG should be preferred to surgical gastrostomy because it has less morbidity and mortality, can be done at the bedside and outpatiently when necessary, does not require general anesthesia, and is cheaper and practical

    The aim of this research is to identify the ideas of teachers about the process and results of the in-service training studies. This research includes totally 153 volunteer teachers; as 21 preschool and 132 primary school teachers in Istanbul in 2011-2012 academic year. This research is descriptive. In this research the effectiveness of the in-service training evaluation scale, which is also used to asses the effectiveness of the European Community Study Visits, is used in order to ases teachers’ in- service training process and results. In this research the following results were reached upon evaluating participant teachers’ comments on in-service training courses, seminars and other activities. It is obvious that there appears a lot of differances among teachers in terms of duration. It can be interpreted that the differance of the periods of the in-service training is caused by the differance in retirement and willingness or unwillingness for the attendance to the teachers’ in-service training studies. Özet Bu araştırmanın amacı, öğretmenlere yönelik düzenlenen hizmet-içi eğitim faaliyetlerinin süreç ve sonuçlarına yönelik öğretmen görüşlerini tespit etmektir. Araştırmanın çalışma evrenini İstanbul ilinde 2011-2012 eğitim-öğretim yılında görev yapan ve mevcut araştırmaya gönüllü olarak katılan 21 okulöncesi ve 132 ilköğretim okulu olmak üzere toplam 153 kadrolu öğretmenler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma betimsel niteliktedir. Araştırmada ölçek olarak öğretmenlere yönelik düzenlenen hizmet-içi eğitim faaliyetlerinin süreç ve sonuçlarına yönelik görüşlerini ölçmek amacıyla Avrupa Birliği Çalışma Ziyareti (Study Visits) çalışmalarının etkililiğini ölçmek amacıyla uygulanan hizmetiçi eğitim etkililiği değerlendirme ölçeğinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmenlerin genel olarak hizmet içi eğitim faaliyetlerini büyük bir çoğunlukla meslektaşlarına önerecekleri yönünde görüş belirtmeleri her ne kadar olumlu bir sonuç olsa da yaklaşık üçte bir katılımcının ise bu tür faaliyetleri meslektaşlarına öneremeyecekleri şeklinde görüş belirtmeleri bu tür faaliyetler konusunda önemli bir oranda öğretmenin olumsuz tutum içerisinde olduğunu göstermektedir. Dolayısıyla öğretmenlere yönelik düzenlenecek hizmet içi eğitim faaliyetlerinden sorumlu ilgili ve yetkli kişi ve kurumların katılımcılarda olumlu tutumlar geliştirici faaliyetler organize etmeleri gerektiği söylenebilir

    The aim of the research is to determine the fields that Educational Inspectors have to spare time for and the fields that Educational Inspectors demand to make time for. The data collected by review form was analyzed by content analysis method. According to research results: Educational Inspectors want to make time mostly for counselling and research activities, educational seminars, in-service training activities, projects, post graduate education and domestic/outland trips. They believe that they will be more successful in this way. The following suggestios are developed based on research results: Domestic and outland seminars, courses, trips and observation opportunities should be provided for personal developments of educational inspectors. In an educational organization, educational leadership roles of Educational Inspectors should be enhanced instead of their rutin bureaucratic works and activities and their roles (inspection, document tracking, monitoring legistation) in parallel with these works. Educational Inspectors should be provided with more transportation convenience and technologic opportunities should be increased

    The effect of perceived social support levels on coping methods for urinary incontinence in elderly men

    MakaleWOS:000954033500001PubMed ID: 36921201OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the effect of the perceived social support level on coping methods for urinary incontinence among men aged 65 years and over with urinary incontinence. METHODS: A total of 92 male patients over the age of 65 years with urinary incontinence and adequate cognitive levels were included in the study. The coping methods, the environmental support, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support were used to collect data. RESULTS: The most common method of coping was changing clothes (64 [69.6%]). The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support total mean score was 55.83+/-14.8, which was considered above the medium-level support. The perception level of social support caused significant differences in coping methods in individuals with urinary incontinence. CONCLUSION: The view that urinary incontinence is a problem related to aging is regarded as an obstacle to seeking healthcare. Society should be made aware that urinary incontinence is not a normal condition related to aging and that it is not an insoluble problem that the elderly must endure

Systems such as WordPress, ensure to create blog/internet website by sub-domain method and give required technical support to people by their admin panels. These facilities provide new oppurtunities such as communicating with users on the web interactively, obtaining statistical data and publicizing the organization, for information centers. In addition to this, WordPress system with user oriented dynamic blog structure, offers oppurtunities like marketing services to information centers which already have a website. In this study WordPress system will be explained in the context of its installation, by subdomain method and its main attributes which provide communication with users, marketing their organization and services for information centers.Gelişen web teknolojileri pek de uzak olmayan bir geçmişte maliyeti fazla olan, zaman, emek, bilgi ve tecrübe gerektiren birçok eylemin gerçekleştirilmesini olanaklı kılmıştır.
