The main problem of the paper is if tools elaborated to observe and evaluate online discussion tasks can be also applied in face-to-face context and b-learning scenarios. I will discuss the main features of those tools (Henri 1992; Gunawardena et al. 1997; Garrison et al. 2001; Newman et al. 1995; Wozniak et Silveira 2004) and focus specifically on those features which allow the negotiation of the aims and the course of the argumentative, thus inviting critical argumentation

The aim of the paper is to discuss the relevance of media and information education in language learning at advanced levels. The present paper is based on the empirical data obtained during the action-research conducted with the Romance philology students attending the course of French as a foreign language. The main object of the research is to establish to what degree an oral argumentation task, preceded by the task of planning the discussion on Wiki is considered to be a learning situation by students themselves. The research focuses on a selected aspect of the learning process, namely, on the use of media resources while negotiating the discussion outline and specifically, while negotiating its topic, objectives and its cognitive value. The principal conclusions indicate 1) that the task scenario should be based on the critical and dialogical approach to media and 2) that this kind of instruction can reinforce the argumentative dimension of the discussion

The paper presents the objectives, the scenario and the conclusions of an exploratory action-research whose aim was to determine how the descriptive categories elaborated in the field of discourse analysis can be used to explain and to explore the genre of online discussion in public internet forums in the context of foreign language learning. I discuss first a list of descriptive categories elaborated in my research in the form of an observation grid in order to outline the genre specificity of online discussion. Then I describe the application of the observation grid in my research. The paper presents the objectives, the scenario and the conclusions of an exploratory action-research whose aim was to determine how the descriptive categories elaborated in the field of discourse analysis can be used to explain and to explore the genre of online discussion in public internet forums in the context of foreign language learning. Les éléments du récit personnel dans les échanges en ligne portant sur les sujets d’actualité : raconter pour mieux comprendre, reprendre pour entrer en dialogue

The paper aims to present the potential, for foreign language students, of the exolingual interactions online in public and open forums. For the analysis of students’ commentaries, I apply the observation categories that were first elaborated for the analysis of posts published in press sites. I focus on narrative commentaries in which web users organize phenomena and events discussed in public discourse and try to give them their individual interpretation. I consider this kind of interaction on press sites as contributing to the civic debates: I argue that they can be also integrated in observation categories used to describe and analyze exchanges between students discussing social issues in reference to foreign language media information. In the paper I present two kinds of commentaries: those written by native speakers in public forums and those written by FL students in response to public commentaries. The paper aims to present the potential, for foreign language students, of the exolingual interactions online in public and open forums. "jats:p" Seaport efficiency and productivity are the critical factors for handling of goods in the international supply chains and plays an important role in trade exchange with other countries. It is important to evaluate efficiency and productivity of seaports to reflect their status and reveal their position in competitive environment. The main purpose of this article is to use Data Envelopment Analysis and Malmquist Productivity Index to measure the technical efficiency and total factor productivity of container ports. DEA analysis enables one to assess how efficiently a seaports uses the available inputs to generate a set of outputs relative to other units in the data set. This article presents the use CCR and BCC DEA model, to determine overall technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency of container ports. The analysis gives a possibility to create a efficiency ranking of seaports. The study also applies the Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI), which was used to analyze changes in seaports productivity. The study indicated that technological progress had a greater impact on the change in productivity of container ports than changes in technical efficiency. Document type: Articl

Innovation, to promotion and implementation of which more and more importance is attached in the European Union, is a factor which strongly affects the development of companies, regions and whole economies and constitutes the source of their competitive advantage. It means the capa- bility to search and implement modern technologies and new products, but it may also concern new organizational solutions and marketing techniques. The level of regions’ innovation depends on its inhabitants and on the companies operating there. Region itself is a base that can create favourable conditions for the development of innovations. The aim of the paper is to analyse the spatial differentiation of innovation of Polish regions. The regions will be classified and grouped into homogenous subsets upon the level of their innovation. In the research taxonomic and multi- criteria analysis methods will be applied

Neuropsychological characteristics of encephalopathy in Susac's Syndrome – Case report

    Get PDF
Susac's Syndrome (SS) is a rare, autoimmune angiopathy characterized by hearing loss, retinal artery occlusions and encephalopathy, which is usually expressed in multifocal neurological signs and symptoms, confusion state and cognitive impairment. There have been few descriptions of neuropsychological assessment of SS. We present a case study of 29-year-old woman who developed full SS. During the post-acute stage of disease, she was admitted to neurorehabilitation ward to improve her cognitive-behavioral and motor functioning. The initial assessment revealed attention, memory and executive dysfunctions, as well as behavioral changes including impulsivity, affective dysregulation and reduced self-awareness of disease deficits. After five weeks recovery process supported by rehabilitation program, improvement was observed, although some cognitive-behavioral deficits were still present in the follow-up assessment

Economic and environmental aspects of inland transport in EU countries

Transport is one of the most essential sectors of the EU member state economies. Measurement of the efficiency of transport operations seems to be interesting from the perspective of both the economy as a whole and individual companies operating in the transport sector. The largest proportion of freight transport in the European Union is done by road. The purpose of this paper is to determine the efficiency of road and rail freight transport in old and new European Union countries based on the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method. To that end, the authors present a literature review reflecting the current state of research on the importance of transport and its development in relation to the economy and environmental problems. Additionally, the methods of data analysis and variables are described. The empirical part is divided into a presentation of DEA results and correlation between the transport efficiency, gross domestic product (GDP), and CO 2 emissions results. Moreover, spatial analysis was used to characterize road and rail transport efficiency in EU member states. The last section gives a summary of the study, and the obtained results are compared with data from the literature revie

The research presented in the paper is a part of the project carried out at the Institute of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. The research aims at determining the underdeveloped areas of advanced learners’ listening skills. The ultimate objective of our research is the development of discursive approach toward teaching and learning (Górecka, Wilczyńska, Wojciechowska in press). The study focuses on analyzing writing strategies used by students in the task of summarizing the chosen sequences of media debates in the radio program Le téléphone sonne. We claim that the way the students formulate their answers can reveal, to some extent, the diffi culties they encounter in analyzing and synthetizing oral discourse. The analysis of students’ writing strategies may contribute to the elaboration of pre-task instructions and evaluation techniques, which may result in a better approach to the development of listening skills. The research presented in the paper is a part of the project carried out at the Institute of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań.
