Performance analysis of persistence technologies for cloud repositories of models

    Get PDF
The growing adoption of Model Driven Development (MDD) in companies during last decade arises some model interchange problems. Companies need support to interchange models and reuse parts of them for developing new projects. Traditional tools for model edition and model interchange have different performance issues related to the models storage. There are mainly two styles to organize the persistence of models into repositories: a complex and large model or a large amount of small models. This last approach is common in companies that generate software from models. In this paper, we analyse performance properties of different persistence technologies to store small/medium-scale models, the analysis results should be considered in the design of model repositories in the cloud. With this aim, we have designed and developed a generic architecture to evaluate each persistence technology under similar situations

    Get PDF
A novel metamaterial absorber design able to operate in the C frequency band is presented, along with an analysis and a method to improve both its bandwidth and its angular stability. Simulation results for a FR4-based design are shown for comparison with existing designs. In addition, a simplified equivalent circuit is provided for a better understanding of the great angular stability and wide bandwidth exhibited by the proposed structure. Moreover, simulations, manufacturing and measurements of a thinner and more flexible metamaterial absorber, keeping the angular stability of the former one, while providing a wide bandwidth, are presente

Principal component analysis to compress acquired data offshore

    Get PDF
Telecommunications offshore have connectivity in virtually all parts of the globe via satellite, with increasing bandwidth and lower cost, but still far from levels that are onshore. The principal component analysis (PCA) is a statistical technique that has found application in fields such as biometrics or compression of images, being a common tool for finding patterns in multidimensional data sets. The hypothesis for this work was that it was possible to use the theory of PCA to compress, with sufficient accuracy, the large amount of data that are collected on board to a vessel and then sent by satellite in a more economical or rapid way than the traditional one. The material used were 44 samples of 182 different signals, collected from 19 different equipment on board to “Castillo de Villalba” Liquid Natural Gas carrier vessel. With these data, the PCA algorithm was applied using a computer program developed by the authors, generating new data packets to send by satellite. Different strategies were used in order to ensure that the coefficient of correlation r between original and reconstructed data onshore were equal or greater than 0.95. The results showed that it was possible to save 46.9% in the number of data sent via satellite, in the case of grouping all the 182 signs, with a mean r = 0.95 ± 0.08. This strategy is appropriate for onshore vessel equipment telediagnostic and maintenance decision making, with telecommunication cost or time savings.Peer Reviewe

Transcranial direct current stimulation for post-stroke dysphagia: a meta-analysis

[EN] Background: Strokes may cause some swallowing difficulty or associated dysphagia in 25–80% of patients. This phenomenon has been linked to increased morbidity and mortality. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation in patients with dysphagia in post-stroke patients. Methods: A systematic search in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and MEDLINE was conducted. The articles must have to evaluate an intervention that included transcranial direct current stimulation; the sample had to consist exclusively of patients with post-stroke dysphagia; and the experimental design consisted of randomized controlled trial. Difference in mean differences and their 95% confidence interval were calculated as the between-group difference in means divided by the pooled standard deviation. The I2 statistic was used to determine the degree of heterogeneity. Results: Of the 9 investigations analyzed, all applied transcranial direct current stimulation in combination with conventional dysphagia therapy to the experimental group. All the studies analyzed identified improvements in swallowing function and meta-analysis confirmed their strong effect on reducing the risk of penetration and aspiration (Hedges’s g = 0.55). The results showed that participants who received transcranial direct current stimulation significantly improved swallowing function. Conclusions: Transcranial direct current stimulation has positive effects in the treatment of poststroke dysphagia by improving swallowing function, oral and pharyngeal phase times and the risk of penetration and aspiration. Furthermore, its combination with conventional dysphagia therapy, balloon dilatation with catheter or training of the swallowing muscles ensures improvement of swallowing function. XXXII Simposium Nacional de la Unión Científica Internacional de Radio, Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, 6 a 8 de septiembre de 2017, Cartagena (España)The aim of this contribution is twofold. On the one hand, some guidelines will be given in order to improve the metasurface absorbers’ (MTAs) angular stability. In order to show that, two angularly stable MTAs are presented taking into consideration the common design specifications (resonance frequency, peak absorption, available dielectric materials and suitable bandwidth) that a designer has to meet. These MTAs are not only angularly stable but also its profile is extremely thin and hence, they can be conformed to whatever objects due to its flexibility. On the other hand, it will be provided a deep insight on the measurement limitations. A quasi-monostatic measurement set-up will be presented to perform measurements under both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarizations varying the angle of incidence. The restrictions in the angular margin that can be measured according to the size of the manufactured finite MTA will be presente

2017 International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications (ICEAA), 11 a 15 de septiembre de 2017, Verona (Italia)This work focuses in achieving the angular stabilization of a square loop-based AMC from a novel approach: by exploring the possibilities of introducing lumped inductors. The study is conducted considering the typical constraints an actual designer has to cope with (concerning limited size and dielectric thickness and properties). As a result, a stable AMC in the 5.8GHz band is obtained, meeting the design requirements. Due to its effectiveness, the novel developed methodology can be directly extended to enhance the angular stability of any loop-based AMC, wide spreading their application

An urban geomonumental route focusing on the petrological and decay features of traditional building stones used in Madrid, Spain

The stone traditionally used to build cities contributes to their personality and attests to the geological substrate on which they stand. While stone decay in the built heritage can be attributed to a number of causes, anthropic activity has a particularly significant impact. The geomonumental routes project is one of the initiatives proposed in recent years for urban routes that convey geological fundamentals by observing the rocks present in heritage structures. Its innovative approach addresses traditional stone properties, original quarrying sites and mechanisms of decay. Madrid's Royal Palace is a fine example of the use of traditional building stone in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. In the geomonumental route proposed, the building doubles as an in situ laboratory that affords an overview of the main petrological properties of the two traditional stones most commonly used in the city's built heritage, the forms of decay they are subject and the factors underlying such alterations. This route constitutes a tool for showing the main petrological features and decay forms in traditional building stones found in urban heritage façades, with a special focus on anthropic impact, primarily air pollution and the use of conservation treatments that time has proven to be unsuitable. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg
