Multifuncionalidad de los pastos herbáceos de montaña: hacia una interpretación multidisciplinar de los sistemas pastorales del Pirineo

27 páginasSe revisan los estudios de los sistemas pastorales del Pirineo de Aragón realizados en el Instituto Pirenaico de Ecología (CSIC) durante los últimos 50 años. Dichos estudios persiguen desde su inicio una aproximación multidisciplinar con especial énfasis en aspectos ecológicos y en la historia de la utilización pastoral de la montaña y con aproximaciones desde la escala de especie a la de paisaje. Se han realizado estudios detallados de la distribución espacial de los pastos herbáceos, su composición florística, producción, biomasa y calidad nutritiva. En cuanto a los herbívoros, se ha indagado en la selección de dieta y patrones espaciales y temporales de utilización.Peer reviewe

Numerical evaluation of the Green's functions for arbitrarily shaped cylindrical enclosures and their optimization by a new spatial images method

IIn this paper, a spatial image technique is used to efficiently calculate the mixed potential Green’s functions associated with electric sources, when they are placed inside arbitrarily shaped cylindrical cavities. The technique is based on placing electric dipole images and charges outside the cavity region. Their strength and orientation are thencalculated by imposing the appropriate boundary conditions for the fields at discrete points on the metallic wall. A method for the assessment of the potentials accuracy is proposed, and several optimization techniques are presented. Three cavities are analyzed to demonstrate the usefulness of the techniques. The cutoff frequencies and potentials patterns are compared to those obtained by a standard finite elements technique, showing excellent agreement. Finally, a band-pass filter based on coupled lines is analyzed, demonstrating the practical value of the technique.This work has been developed with support from the Spanish National Project (CICYT) with reference TEC2004-04313-C02-02/TCM, and the Regional Seneca Project with reference 02972/PI/0

El papel de los herbívoros en la conservación de los pastos

9 páginas, 1 figura, 1 tabla.Tradicionalmente, las áreas pastorales del Pirineo han constituido la base de la economía local, albergando además una parte importante de su valor paisajístico y de su riqueza biológica. Los cambios de uso de muchas de estas áreas, a veces amparadas por figuras de protección, dan lugar a numerosos interrogantes. Ello se debe a que, a diferencia de otro tipo de ambientes, la conservación de los pastos está vinculada al mantenimiento del pastoreo. Algunos estudios parecen haber demostrado que existe una relación estrecha entre el cese o declive paulatino del pastoreo y la pérdida de diversidad vegetal en las comunidades utilizadas, concluyendo que la mayor diversidad se obtendría en niveles moderados de pastoreo. La utilización espacial y temporal de las unidades pastorales y su efecto sobre el pasto, la alimentación de los herbívoros en función de la oferta vegetal, así como las relaciones entre los diferentes manejos y cargas ganaderas con la diversidad, configuran un sistema complejo. El conocimiento de este sistema resulta imprescindible para la gestión razonable de la montaña.Peer reviewe

An interface between an hp-adaptive finite element package and the pre- and post-processor GiD

An interface between GiD, the interactive graphical user interface used for numerical simulations, developed at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) of the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña and the Geometrical Modeling Package (GMP) of the fully automatic hp-adaptive finite element (FE) software, developed at the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) of the University of Texas at Austin, is presented. GiD is used to construct a tessellation of the problem domain into FE-like regions (blocks in GMP terminology), and the interface obtains and transfers all the topological and geometrical information to GMP. Then, GMP automatically constructs a parameterization for each FE-like region of the GMP mesh, which later can be used to generate the actual FE-mesh and support geometry updates during mesh refinements

Método de Elementos Finitos hp con Adaptabilidad Automática Orientada a un Objetivo para Problemas Abiertos en 2D

In this paper, we describe a fully automatic goaloriented hp-adaptive Finite Element strategy, which is applied to open problems (radiation and scattering). The methodology produces exponential convergence rates in terms of an upper bound of an user-prescribed quantity of interest (in our case, the S-parameter, the far radiated field or far scattering field) against the problem size (number of degrees of freedom). We illustrate the efficiency of the method with 2D numerical simulations of open problems (radiation and scattering). Applications include the far scattering (radiated) field by an object (antenna) and the computation of mutual coupling of the antennas (S-parameters). Results show that self-adaptive goal-oriented hp obtains more accuracy in the quantity of interest than self-adaptive energynorm hp with the same number of degrees of freedom

A 3D multi-agent-based model for lumen morphogenesis: the role of the biophysical properties of the extracellular matrix

The correct function of many organs depends on proper lumen morphogenesis, which requires the orchestration of both biological and mechanical aspects. However, how these factors coordinate is not yet fully understood. Here, we focus on the development of a mechanistic model for computationally simulating lumen morphogenesis. In particular, we consider the hydrostatic pressure generated by the cells'' fluid secretion as the driving force and the density of the extracellular matrix as regulators of the process. For this purpose, we develop a 3D agent-based-model for lumen morphogenesis that includes cells'' fluid secretion and the density of the extracellular matrix. Moreover, this computer-based model considers the variation in the biological behavior of cells in response to the mechanical forces that they sense. Then, we study the formation of the lumen under different-mechanical scenarios and conclude that an increase in the matrix density reduces the lumen volume and hinders lumen morphogenesis. Finally, we show that the model successfully predicts normal lumen morphogenesis when the matrix density is physiological and aberrant multilumen formation when the matrix density is excessive

Aplicación Android sobre mapeo de funciones lógicas en Look-Up Tables

Este Proyecto Fin de Grado tiene como objetivo entrenar a estudiantes de ingeniería en la idea conceptual del mapeo de funciones a través de Look-Up Tables. Para ello se propone una colección de ejercicios que pueden resolverse de forma interactiva y comprobarse mediante una aplicación Android. Los problemas propuestos sobre Look-Up Tables corresponden a las asignaturas “Circuitos Electrónicos Digitales” y “Dispositivos Integrados Especializados” impartidas en el primer y tercer curso del Grado en Ingeniería de Tecnologías y Servicios de Telecomunicación de la Escuela Politécnica Superior en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Los conceptos que abarca son: a) Operadores lógicos básicos; b) Funciones lógicas combinacionales más comunes (codificadores, decodificadores), c) Funciones aritméticas básicas (suma, resta, multiplicación y división) y finalmente, d) Generación de funciones y operadores matemáticos complejos como seno, coseno, logaritmo, potenciación y raíz de grado n. La versión final se llama Look-Up Tables (LUTs). Es gratuita y puede descargarse desde Google Play Store.This End-Of-Grade Proyect aims to train engineering students in the conceptual idea of mapping functions using Look-Up Tables. In order to achieve this, we propose an exercise collection and each exercise can be solved interactively and checked using an Android application. The posed problems on the Look-Up Tables app are placed on the subjects “Digital Electronic Circuits” and Specialized Integrated Devices” taught in the first and third year of the Degree in Telecommunication Technology and Service Engineering of the Superior Polytechnic School at the Autónoma University of Madrid. The concepts covered are: a) Basic logic operators b) Combinational logic functions (Encoder, Decoders) c) Arithmetic functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and finally, d) Generation of complex mathematical functions and operators such as sine, cosine, logarithm, grade n.
