Water activity in liquid food systems : A molecular scale interpretation

Water activity has historically been and continues to be recognised as a key concept in the area of food science. Despite its ubiquitous utilisation, it still appears as though there is confusion concerning its molecular basis, even within simple, single component solutions. Here, by close examination of the well-known Norrish equation and subsequent application of a rigorous statistical theory, we are able to shed light on such an origin. Our findings highlight the importance of solute-solute interactions thus questioning traditional, empirically based “free water” and “water structure” hypotheses. Conversely, they support the theory of “solute hydration and clustering” which advocates the interplay of solute-solute and solute-water interactions but crucially, they do so in a manner which is free of any estimations and approximations

In sectoral monitoring of universities and post-graduate schools Ministry of Health of Ukraine activity at  2015 year  was done according the following key indicators: educational and methodical work, scientific activity, personnel, international, state and sectoral recognition of work, tutorship and students’ activity, clinical practice, logistics and supply.The analysis of the sectoral monitoring indicates the presence of a minor range value of the sum which reflects the existence of common approaches students health care training carried out by MoH of Ukraine.У 2015 р. був проведений галузевий моніторинг діяльності вищих навчальних закладів та закладів післядипломної освіти МОЗ України за такими основними показниками діяльності, як: навчально-методична робота, наукова діяльність, кадрова політика, міжнародне, державне та галузеве визнання роботи, виховна робота, лікувальна робота, матеріально-технічне забезпечення.Аналіз показників галузевого моніторингу показує наявність незначного діапазону величини сумарного показника, що відображає існування єдиних підходів до організації навчально-методичної роботи щодо підготовки фахівців для галузі охорони здоров’я, що здійснюється МОЗ України

Legitimate limitations on the right of freedom of thought, conscience and religion: the challenges of a globalised world

The essential criteria for legitimate limitations are determined. Unconditional protection of the freedom of thought and conscience as well as the freedom to have or adopt a religion or belief of one’s choice is emphasised. Evaluation of effectiveness of physiotherapy treatment for patient after cervical discectomy surgery

StreszczenieWstęp. Choroba zwyrodnieniowa i dyskowa kręgosłupa, ze względu na wciąż starzejące się społeczeństwo oraz wzrastającą częstotliwość występowania, stały się obecnie ważnym problemem cywilizacyjnym. Objawy towarzyszące schorzeniu obniżają poziom życia chorych, wpływając na strefę ekonomiczną społeczeństwa. Poszukiwane są zatem skuteczne metody, ograniczające dolegliwości występujące w przebiegu choroby.Cel pracy. Celem niniejszej pracy była ocena skuteczności zastosowania terapii mięśniowo-powięziowej u chorej po leczeniu operacyjnym choroby dyskowej kręgosłupa szyjnego.Materiał i metody. Badaniem objęto pacjentkę po zabiegu operacyjnym discectomii szyjnej na poziomach C4/C5/C6/C7 metodą Smith-Robinson. Dla oceny skuteczności leczenia operacyjnego oraz zastosowanej terapii mięśniowo-powięziowej użyto wskaźnika niepełnosprawności spowodowanej dolegliwościami bólowymi części szyjnej kręgosłupa (ang.: Neck Disability Index, NDI). Badanie z zastosowanie kwestionariusza przeprowadzono czterokrotnie: przed zabiegiem operacyjnym, a następnie w 1., 6. oraz 24. miesiącu po zabiegu. Wyniki. Na podstawie udzielonych przez chorą odpowiedzi w kwestionariuszu NDI, przed zabiegiem operacyjnym, przyznano 41 punktów. Miesiąc po zabiegu (przed rozpoczęciem terapii) liczba punktów wynosiła 33. Sześć miesięcy po zabiegu liczba przyznanych punktów uległa zmniejszeniu do 14 punktów, a 2 lata po zabiegu wyniosła 9 punktów. Wnioski. Operacyjne leczenie dyskopatii szyjnej per se nie doprowadziło do poprawy stanu funkcjonalnego chorej. Zastosowanie terapii mięśniowo-powięziowej wpływa na zmniejszenie bólu oraz poprawę stanu funkcjonalnego chorej po leczeniu chirurgicznym dyskopatii szyjnej.AbstractIntroduction. Nowadays osteoarthritis and discopathy disease have become major medical issues due to frequency of their occurrence as well as continually aging society. The symptoms related to the sickness lower patient’s quality of life and influence the economy of the country. Therefore, the subject of the study was to find the effective methods to decrease the symptoms which occur during the course of disease.Aim of study. The aim of the following study was to evaluate the effectiveness of applying myofascial treatment to patient after a surgical procedure of cervical discopathy.Materials and methods. The object of research was the patient after a cervical discectomy surgery treatment on C4/C5/C6/C7 levels according to Smith-Robinson method. In order to evaluate effectiveness of applied myofascial treatment the indicator of disability caused by pain in cervical spine was utilized (i. e., Neck Disability Index, NDI). The examination was conducted four times with a questionnaire, e. g. before the surgery procedure, a month, six months and two years after one.Outcomes. There ware 41 points total received when the patient answered the questionnaire before the surgery procedure. Then, there were 33 points total one month later the surgery procedure was applied. After six months after myofascial treatment the number of points reduced to 14 points, and to 9 points 2 years later when the treatment was applied.Conclusion. The cervical discectomy surgery did not lead to substantial improvement of the patient’s state of health. Applying myofascial treatment after the cervical discectomy surgery decreased the pain in cervical spine as well as general state of health of the patient
