The author reflects on her youthful viewing of Dirty Dancing on video against her parents’ wishes as one example of the ineffectiveness of a protectionist approach to media. She offers ideas on how she and her students (pre-service and in-service educators) think through how to navigate selection of materials for effective media literacy education. Concern over material selection is not new. Just as educators have done with print media, we, together with our students, must consider student needs and interests as we view and create media materials that both reflect and inspire critical interaction with media

Nová úprava konjugovaného kritéria pevnosti

The paper describes the experimental results for the combined loading of the specimen manufactured from the construction steel 11523, melt T31052. The first set of the specimen was loaded by the alternating torque amplitude. The second and third set of specimen was loaded by the combination of the bending moment and of the torque for two slants of 30 and 60 degrees in the conditions of the alternating cycle. The fourth set was loaded by the alternating amplitude of the bending moment. The conjugated strength criterion was applied on the experimental results. Further, new approximation based on the same boundary conditions as the described conjugated strength criterion was proposed. The required input parameters for the conjugated strength criterion were obtained from the stress-strain analysis of the specimen by the finite element method.Článek popisuje výsledky experimentů při kombinovaném zatěžování zkušebních vzorků vyrobených z konstrukční oceli 11523, tavba T31052. První sada zkušebních vzorků byla zatěžovaná střídavou amplitudou krouticího momentu. Druhá a třetí sada zkušebních vzorků byla namáhaná kombinací ohybu a krutu, pro dva úhly sklonu 30° a 60° v podmínkách střídavého cyklu. Čtvrtá sada vzorků byla zatěžována střídavou amplitudou ohybového momentu. Na výsledky experimentů bylo aplikováno konjugované kritérium pevnosti. Dále byla navržena nová aproximace, která vychází ze stejných okrajových podmínek jako popsané konjugované kritérium pevnosti. Pro získání potřebných vstupních hodnot do konjugovaného kriteria pevnosti byla počítána napěťově deformační analýza zkušebních vzorků metodou konečných prvků

Únava materiálu při víceosém zatěžování zkušebních vzorků

This contribution describes experimental results under combined loading of specimens manufactured from common construction steel 11523 melting T31052. Specimens were loaded by amplitude of the torque, then by combination of torque and tension prestress. The last set of specimens was loaded in combination of torque and inner overpressure in the conditions of closed vessel. To obtain the required input values the stress-strain analysis of specimens was performed by finite element method in software Ansys. For evaluation of the results the Fuxa’s criterion [3] was applied. The performed experiments and their results embody a good agreement with bellow mentioned conjugated strength criterion. The experiments were performed on modified testing machine equipped by overpressure chamber.Tento článek popisuje výsledky experimentů při kombinovaném zatěžování zkušebních vzorků vyrobených z běžné konstrukční oceli 11523 tavba T31052. Zkušební vzorky byly zatěžovány amplitudou krouticího momentu, dále pak kombinací amplitudy krouticího momentu s tahovým předpětím. Poslední sada zkušebních vzorků byla zatěžována amplitudou krouticího momentu v kombinaci s vnitřním přetlakem v podmínkách uzavřené nádoby. Pro získání potřebných vstupních hodnot do konjugovaného kriteria pevnosti [3] byla počítána napěťově deformační analýza zkušebních vzorků metodou konečných prvků v programu ANSYS. Na výsledky experimentů bylo aplikováno konjugované kritérium pevnosti. Zkoušky byly provedeny na upraveném zkušebním zařízení, které bylo doplněno o přetlakovou komoru

Předmětem této bakalářské práce je návrh na kompresi SQL databáze u informačního systému v nadnárodní společnosti. Výstupem mé práce bude návrh na kompresi SQL databáze. Firma si stanovila určité požadavky, které musí být dodrženy. Na základě těchto požadavků navrhnu různá řešení a z nich nakonec vyberu jedno, dle mého názoru nejlepší, které na daný problém aplikuji.Subject of this thesis is proposal to compression of SQL database at information system used in multinational company. The aim of my work will be proposal of SQL database compression. The company particularizes requirements, which have to be keeped. On the basis of this requirements I will propose various solutions and from these solutions will be choose one, in my opinion the best, which will be implemented.

Discourse Analysis of Islamic Terrorist Propaganda on the Internet

Diploma thesis Discourse Analysis of Islamic Terrorist Propaganda on the Internet uses the method of thematic discourse analysis to study jihadi discussion forums in the cyberspace. Since the beginning of the last decade of the 20th century the Internet has became one of the most powerful communication tools through which are jihadi terrorists able to reach thousands of Muslims worldwide. After the traditional Western media had intensively begun to filter terrorist messages shortly after 11/9/2001, jihadists found a perfect way how to draw attention of these media once more - not directly, but through the Internet communication which is widely used by traditional media as a source of their content. The first part of this thesis presents theoretical framework for the second, purely practical part. Firstly, this paper deals with propaganda as a form of communication, shows the Internet as a medium that has absorbed all other media, and analyses the terrorism spread through the Internet. The main part of this study focuses on the jihadi discourse, through which jihadists view the Islamic world as suffering under the oppression of the West to persuade passive Muslim audience to joint the jihad. Internet se v posledních cca dvou desetiletích stal pro islámské extremisty jedním z nejúčinnějších komunikačních nástrojů, prostřednictvím něhož je možno oslovit tisíce muslimů po celém světě. Po mediální blokádě teroristických témat, která se začala projevovat brzy po 11. září 2001, navíc v internetu džihádisté našli dokonalou cestu, jak se do klasických médií vrátit, sice už ne přímo, ale prostřednictvím internetových sdělení, která média po celém světě hojně přebírají. První část diplomové práce představuje teoretické zázemí pro druhou, ryze praktickou část. Nejprve se zabývá propagandou jako formou komunikace, internetem jako médiem, které do sebe určitým způsobem vstřebalo všechna média předchozí, podává však také výklad o terorismu šířeném přes internet. Social Equity Decision Making: Narrative Explorations with Elementary Teachers

In this critical postmodern narrative study, I explore with my participants their decision making process/es around social equity issues (race, class, gender, social class, sexual identity, religion, etc.) in their teaching. The purpose of this study is to facilitate a closer examination of this important decision making process--when and how to address social equity issues in one's teaching. How do teachers respond to opportunities, planned and unplanned, to foster, exclude, or silence social equity dialogue in their pedagogy? My participants were Oklahoma teachers currently or recently in-service in an elementary setting who exhibit strong autonomy as defined by Kamii (1991) and commitment to social equity education as determined by a participant questionnaire. Participants were recruited through expert referral and ListServ recruitment. Then through two semi-structured interviews, I collected my data and constructed participants' stories holistically in realist tales (Woodbrooks, 1991) as my first stage ofSchool of Teaching and Curriculum Leadershi

Galápagos sea lion behavior differences in relation to human exposure

Our study examined the behavioral differences of the Galápagos sea lion (Zalophus wollebaeki) in relation to human presence. Our main goal was to determine whether sea lions would be more aggressive as a result of high frequencies of human exposure. We hypothesized that sea lions would behave differently in relation to varying rates of human exposure and we predicted that there would be more aggressive and interactive behaviors on beaches with higher frequencies of human exposure (as the humans may disturb the normal behavioral patterns of the sea lions). Data was collected daily at low tide in two-hour intervals. Our study took place during July 2014 on Isla San Cristóbal on three beaches near Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. We recorded the number of people and sea lions on each beach during each data collection, as well as any observed behavioral characteristics of sea lions. We categorized behavioral characteristics of sea lions as aggressive, interactive but non-aggressive, and non-interactive both on terrestrial and aquatic environments. In addition, we accounted for the frequency of interactions in relation to the size of the beach in which data was collected. Results from a Chi-squared goodness of fit test showed that there was a significant difference in the sea lions’ behavior in relation to human exposure (p \u3c 0.0001). Further analysis showed that sea lions tend to be more aggressive in response to higher frequencies of human exposure (p \u3c 0.0001). Previous studies have shown that high rates of human exposure in sea lion habitats can result in a decrease of sea lion populations (French et al., 2011). With regards to these results, there should be a consideration for how human exposure can affect the behavior of sea lions. Tourism in the Galápagos Islands remains prevalent, which can potentially disrupt the natural behavior of protected species if humans disrupt the animals’ natural behavior
