PoisFFT - A Free Parallel Fast Poisson Solver

A fast Poisson solver software package PoisFFT is presented. It is available as a free software licensed under the GNU GPL license version 3. The package uses the fast Fourier transform to directly solve the Poisson equation on a uniform orthogonal grid. It can solve the pseudo-spectral approximation and the second order finite difference approximation of the continuous solution. The paper reviews the mathematical methods for the fast Poisson solver and discusses the software implementation and parallelization. The use of PoisFFT in an incompressible flow solver is also demonstrated

Dysfunctional states became the part of geopolitical situation. Their numbers and importance increased in last twenty years. Although dysfunctional states is legacy of the Cold War rather than product of today, their existence should be noted and to decide what to do with this undesirable phenomenon in the future. Related events of failed states are concepts of radicalism, extremism and terrorism

The paper deals with the impact of undermining on the slope deformation Doubrava Vrchovec. For the evaluation of the impact, isocatabase maps, terrain deformation parameters calculated for slope deformation, length measuring by zone extensometry and dilatometric measuring in the cracks of an asphalt road have been used. The length and dilatometric measuring identified the direction of slope deformation movement corresponding to the direction of rock mass movement as the consequence of undermining. With regard to the fact a change in the longitudinal relative deformation values in the direction of the subsidence slope gradient was evaluated (in the direction of the slope deformation movement). During the monitored period, terrain surface compression occurred, which manifests the position of the slope deformation in the concave portion of the subsidence slope. This fact probably induces additional strain from undermining in the slope deformation, which may worsen its stability conditions

This work details the synthesis and characterization of novel ternary boride (MoAlB) and MAX phase particulates via pressureless reaction. Furthermore, porous MoAlB particulates were synthesized for the first time by selective deintercalation of Al from MoAlB. Finally, novel Ni-MoAlB composites were fabricated, and their mechanical and tribological properties were tested and analyzed. Chapter II describes the synthesis of Cr2AlC, Cr2GaC, and V2AlC powders, and demonstrates the ability to engineer particle size of Ti3SiC2 by ball milling. Chapter III details the synthesis and characterization of a novel ternary boride, MoAlB, and their porous derivatives. These particulates showed a uniquely stacked 2D-like morphology and were riddled with pores of dimensions 257±126 nm and 35±10 nm, respectively. The EDS analysis showed that particulates had a chemistry of (Mo0.67Al0.33)B{O0.19F0.02} due to partial deintercalation of Al from MoAlB. Chapter IV chronicles the fabrication of novel Ni-matrix composites using MoAlB powders as a multifunctional solid lubricant additive. During sliding against SS, the WR decreased gradually with MoAlB content, for example, it decreased from 3 x 10-3 mm3/Nm in Ni (240 MPa) to ~2 x 10-4 mm3/Nm in Ni-30%MoAlB (1000 °C) (240 MPa). Chapter V discusses the conclusions and future studies of this wor

Landau damping in thin films irradiated by a strong laser field

The rate of linear collisionless damping (Landau damping) in a classical electron gas confined to a heated ionized thin film is calculated. The general expression for the imaginary part of the dielectric tensor in terms of the parameters of the single-particle self-consistent electron potential is obtained. For the case of a deep rectangular well, it is explicitly calculated as a function of the electron temperature in the two limiting cases of specular and diffuse reflection of the electrons from the boundary of the self-consistent potential. For realistic experimental parameters, the contribution of Landau damping to the heating of the electron subsystem is estimated. It is shown that for films with a thickness below about 100 nm and for moderate laser intensities it may be comparable with or even dominate over electron-ion collisions and inner ionization.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure

Changes in Floquet state structure at avoided crossings: delocalization and harmonic generation

    Get PDF
Avoided crossings are common in the quasienergy spectra of strongly driven nonlinear quantum wells. In this paper we examine the sinusoidally driven particle in a square potential well to show that avoided crossings can alter the structure of Floquet states in this system. Two types of avoided crossings are identified: on type leads only to temporary changes (as a function of driving field strength) in Floquet state structure while the second type can lead to permanent delocalization of the Floquet states. Radiation spectra from these latter states show significant increase in high harmonic generation as the system passes through the avoided crossing.Comment: 8 pages with 10 figures submitted to Physical Review

Derivation of a method to determine reactions and deflection of a continous beam on an elastic foundation

    Get PDF
“The purpose of this thesis is to develop a method for determining the reactions and deflection curve of continuous beams partially supported by an elastic foundation. The method involves representation of an arbitrary loading and the intermediate redundant reactions as Fourier Series. Redundant intermediate reactions are determined by the solution of an equal number of linear equations. The remaining reactions are determined by the application of statics. This same method can be used for simply supported beams on an elastic foundation and for continuous beams without an elastic foundation”--Abstract, page ii

TRANSITIONING A HAND THERAPY CLINIC FROM TRADITIONAL PAPER HOME PROGRAMS TO AN ELECTRONIC PLATFORM: A QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

    Get PDF
Individuals with upper extremity conditions who receive occupational therapy within the hand therapy context are often provided with paper or electronic home programs (HPs) as part of their rehabilitation protocol. Electronic HPs may promote greater adherence and functional improvements than paper handouts, as they can accommodate various learning styles and address patient barriers (Chung et al., 2020; Harte & Law, 2019; Lambert et al., 2017; Nussbaum et al., 2019; Toci et al., 2021; Valdes et al., in press). Despite evidence showing positive patient satisfaction and outcomes as a result of using electronic HPs, some occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) may be hesitant to use a new online system (Corey, 2019; Choi et al., 2019; Svingen et al., 2021). The purpose of this scholarly project is to help transition an outpatient hand therapy clinic from using traditional paper HPs to using MedBridge by offering therapists educational resources. Several methods were used to understand the potential impact of this project on patient care and to understand practitioners’ opinions regarding MedBridge. The person-environment-occupation (PEO) model and the plan-do-study-act (PDSA) quality improvement (QI) method were considered throughout the literature review and formation of the product (Law et al., 1996; Taylor et al., 2014). An in-service presentation was provided to orient therapists to basic functions when using MedBridge HPs. Additionally, the MedBridge Home Exercise Program User Guide was developed which provides an in-depth explanation of the purpose of each function and how to use it, and the MedBridge Home Exercise Program Quick Reference card offers a brief overview of the necessary steps in building a home program. It is anticipated that the resources made available to therapists on MedBridge as well as the user guide will increase therapists’ use of electronic HPs which may improve overall patient satisfaction and functional outcomes
