A planar integrated folded reflectarray antenna with circular polarization
This communication presents the complete design of a circularly polarized (CP) folded reflectarray (FRA) antenna with an integrated planar structure for the first time in the open literature. To achieve circularly polarized, a printed meander-line polarizer is designed and integrated with the linearly polarized (LP) FRA. To achieve a low-profile planar structure, an integrated 2×2 planar array is designed as the feed source instead of a horn. Thus, the whole antenna, including the feed source, LPFRA, and meander-line polarizer, can be fully integrated and fabricated using low-cost printed circuit board technology. To validate the concept, a right-handed CPFRA operating in C-band is designed, fabricated, and measured. The broadside axial ratio (AR) of the proposed CPFRA is lower than 1 dB over a bandwidth from 5.22 to 5.46 GHz. In addition, the maximum gain of 22.8 dBic is obtained at 5.38 GHz with the antenna efficiency of 27%. The antenna is promising for applications in satellite communication due to advantages of low profile, easy fabrication, low cost, and high gain
Improving information filtering via network manipulation
Recommender system is a very promising way to address the problem of
overabundant information for online users. Though the information filtering for
the online commercial systems received much attention recently, almost all of
the previous works are dedicated to design new algorithms and consider the
user-item bipartite networks as given and constant information. However, many
problems for recommender systems such as the cold-start problem (i.e. low
recommendation accuracy for the small degree items) are actually due to the
limitation of the underlying user-item bipartite networks. In this letter, we
propose a strategy to enhance the performance of the already existing
recommendation algorithms by directly manipulating the user-item bipartite
networks, namely adding some virtual connections to the networks. Numerical
analyses on two benchmark data sets, MovieLens and Netflix, show that our
method can remarkably improve the recommendation performance. Specifically, it
not only improve the recommendations accuracy (especially for the small degree
items), but also help the recommender systems generate more diverse and novel
recommendations.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

Formation and Characterization of Lactoferrin-Hyaluronic Acid Conjugates and Their Effects on the Storage Stability of Sesamol Emulsions
The purpose of this study was to fabricate biopolymer conjugates from lactoferrin (LF) and hyaluronic acid (HA) and then to investigate their potential as emulsifiers for forming sesamol-loaded emulsions. Initially, LF-HA covalent conjugates were formed using the carbodiimide coupling method in aqueous solutions at pH = 4.5, and then the nature of the conjugates was investigated using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results demonstrated the formation of an amide link between the amine groups of LF and the carboxyl groups of HA. Sesamol emulsions were prepared using the LF-HA conjugates as emulsifiers and their stability was determined. The conjugates improved both the physical and chemical stability of the emulsions during storage. Optimum stability of the emulsion was obtained at a LF-to-HA molar ratio of 2:1. Our results suggest that LF-HA conjugates may be effective emulsifiers for use in food stuffs and other applications
An Empirical Study on Factors Affecting Continuance Intention of Using Yu’e Bao
The success of Internet investment products such as Yu’e Bao directly relies on users\u27 continuous participation. However, few researches have examined Internet investment products from the context of post-adoption. The purpose of this paper is to study continuance usage intention toward Yu’e Bao, a prevalent Internet investment product. The dual-process model (DPM) has been used in several studies of information systems continuance. We have extended the DPM by examining the impact of some critical factors that directly influence continuance usage intention including expected earnings, capital liquidity and perceived risk. We used structural equation modelling to validate the proposed model and hypotheses. We discover that perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, satisfaction, loyalty, habit, expected earnings and capital liquidity positively influence continuance intention. Perceived risk has a negative effect on continuance usage intention. Furthermore, the results also demonstrate that expected earnings and capital liquidity have positive impacts on users’ perceived risk. The capital liquidity has negative influence on expected earnings. The results provide important implications for research and practice in the field of information systems and finance
Design of a Low temperature cofired ceramic wideband WideScan antenna array for millimetre‐wave applications
The design, fabrication, and measurement of a 7 × 7 mm-wave array antenna have been presented for 5G communications. The substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)-fed antenna element is formed of four parts: a rectangular radiating patch, a coupling slot cut onto the broadwall of the SIW, a transition layer, and a feeding layer at the bottom. The bandwidth and radiation efficiency has been improved by embedding an air cavity below the radiating patch, as the effective dielectric constant of the substrate is reduced. Moreover, a prototype has been fabricated and measured to verify the design principles. The finite array operating over 23–28 GHz has achieved active voltage standing wave ratios of less than 2 and 2.5 in the E- and H-planes while scanning up to 45° respectively. Compared with the theoretical ideal gain, the average gain drop of the measured embedded element gain is 0.73dB

Microstructure-based Simulation of Plastic Deformation Behavior of SiC Particle Reinforced Al Matrix Composites
AbstractThis article, in order to unearth the deformation mechanism of particle reinforced metal matrix composites, establishes a finite element model (FEM) based on the actual microstructures. It finds out and analyzes the distribution of von Mises effective stress, strain and the maximum principal stress in the matrix and particles. Moreover, the overall stress and strain in the matrix and composites are calculated. By comparison, a tiny discrepancy exists between the experimental results and the simulation with respect to flow stresses. The effects of deformation parameters, such as temperature and strain rate, on the strengthening mechanism are explored and proved to be weak
A Novel Damage Model to Predict Ductile Fracture Behavior for Anisotropic Sheet Metal
The purpose of the present work is to investigate the fracture behavior of anisotropic sheet metal under various stress states. Notched tension and flat-grooved tension tests at 0°, 45°, and 90° directions with respect to rolling direction were carried out by a hybrid experimental−numerical approach, and then a novel damage model was proposed by coupling Hill48’s criterion. Based on this, finite element method (FEM) analysis models were established. The force−displacement responses of experiments and simulations are in good agreement, which verify the FEM models. The predictability of the damage model established for the fracture behavior of anisotropic materials was studied by comparing the fracture displacements between experiments and simulations. It is found that the predictability of novel damage model is basically consistent with predictive results. The difference of damage locations and local strain evolutions at a 45° direction is greater than the other directions. In addition, stress triaxiality does not play a predominant role in the fracture process for notched tension specimens, while it does play a predominant role for flat-grooved tension specimens
p Pickering emulsions stabilized by biocompatible particles: A review of preparation, bioapplication, and perspective
The phenomenon of adsorption of solid particles at fluid interfaces to stabilize emulsions or foams have been known for more than a century. Today, particle-stabilized emulsions, often referred to as Pickering emulsions, are receiving growing attention as they are encountered in oil recovery and have long been used in personal care products and food industry. Over the past 10 years the focus of the Pickering emulsion has also increasingly shifted to biomedical applications with thanks to novel syntheses of a wide range of biocompatible particle stabilizers. Here, a brief overview of the development of biocompatible particles is given for Pickering emulsion stabilization, including alginate, poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), and protein-based particles. The materials prepared by templating from emulsion stabilized with biocompatible particles include colloidal capsules and hierarchically porous materials. It is hoped that the understanding gained from the recent intense activity in the field will enable more researchers to modify existing materials and design new formulations, which would be beneficial for exploring more biological applications. Design of a Low-Profile 3:1 Bandwidth Wide-Scan Tightly Coupled Phased Array Antenna
A low-profile tightly coupled phased array antenna with the characteristics of 3:1 bandwidth and ±45 ° scan has been proposed in this paper. The array element consists of three layers of Duroid 5880 substrates and a couple of dipole arms. The novelty of the design is the loaded cross-shaped patch which is employed to avoid the common-mode resonance when unbalanced feeding the balanced dipoles. The obtained results confirm that, the array with 7mm spacing can operate from 7 to 21 GHz with VSWR ? 2.5 for 45°scan in both E-and H-planes. The absolute gain of embedded central element pattern is less than 0.6dB compared with the ideal gain, indicating low loss and good efficiency. It is also worth mentioning that, the whole thickness of the antenna is around 4.5mm, which means it is suitable for conformal platforms
