The family Carditidae (Bivalvia) in the early Danian of Patagonia (Argentina)
The first systematic analysis of the Danian carditids of Patagonia is presented, which includes four generaâone new genus and the first records of three other genera in South America. They consist of Claibornicardia paleopatagonica (Ihering, 1903), a widely distributed species occuring in the JagĂŒel, Roca and Salamanca formations (NeuquĂ©n, RĂo Negro and Chubut Provinces); Rotundicardia Heaslip, 1968, represented by the new species R. mariobrosorum n. sp., which is restricted to the Roca Formation (RĂo Negro Province); Cardites feruglioi (Petersen, 1846) (Roca and LefipĂĄn formations, RĂo Negro and Chubut Provinces); and by Kalelia new genus, which includes K. burmeisteri (Böhm, 1903) from the Salamanca and Roca formations (RĂo Negro and Chubut Provinces), which is related to the Paris Basin species K. multicostata (Lamarck, 1806) n. comb. and K. pectuncularis (Lamarck, 1806) n. comb. âVenericardiaâ iheringi (Böhm, 1903), a species known only from internal molds, is described and regarded as a carditid with uncertain affinities. The presence of Claibornicardia, Rotundicardia, and Cardites in Patagonia constitutes the most ancient record of these genera and confirms biogeographical connections previously established between the Danian Argentinian and North American/European fossil faunas.
The main publications on Cretaceous Bivalves of Alcide dâOrbigny are the PalĂ©ontologie française â Terrains crĂ©tacĂ©s. III. Lamellibranches (1843â1847) and the Prodrome de stratigraphie universelle , vol. II (1850). The importance and influence of these publications for todayâs taxonomic palaeontology are discussed. It is shown that the PalĂ©ontologie française continues to be one of the major 19th-century papers but that the Prodrome is only rarely referred to.</p

A fossiliferous limestone slab from the Triassic locality of the Roch of Los Pastores (Algesiras W), yielded two beds of a bivalve faunule. The bivalves are preserved as dissociated valves of internal moulds on the upper side of the slab and as unidentifiable external moulds on its lower side. Seven species, similar with taxa known from other localities in Spain have been identified: ?Gervillia joleaudi, Leptochondria alberti, ?Posidonia obliqua, Costatoria (Costatoria) goldfussii, Lyriomyophoria sublaevis, Neoschizodus (N.) laevigatus, Pseudocorbula gregaria. The significance of this assemblage is considered after a systematic study: (1) according to the stratigraphical distribution of these seven species, particularly among the Germanic, the Alpine-tethyan and the Spanish Triassic realms, the age suggested is upper Ladinian-lower Carnian; (2) some correlations appear with the association: ?Gervillia joleaudi, Leptochondria alberti, Neoschizodus laevigatus, Myophoria goldfussii, Lyriomyophoria sublaevis; this last species is known from several fossilerous localities in the Catalanid and Betic Ranges into the "Sephardic" realm. However, the studied bivalve assemblage, with the dominant species Lyriomyophoria sublaevis, shows a characteristic biofacies, endemic of this southern province of Andalusia; (3) the Lyriomyophoria biofacies, with its condition of preservation, signifies a high energy, shallow, marine paleoenvironment.</p

ABSTRACT A « Maastrichtien-paléocÚne » new species fossil shell discovered in the lower level of a Mousterian site in the « Bassin de Brive » (CorrÚze) is reported here. This case shows it was collected and displaced by man.RESUME Un fossile de coquillage bivalve d'espÚce inédite et d'ùge suggéré maastrichtien-paléocÚne, mis au jour dans la couche inférieure d'un gisement moustérien du Bassin de Brive (CorrÚze), témoigne d'un ramassage et déplacement par l'homme.Lhomme Vincent, Freneix Suzanne. Bivalves du Sénonien de Vendée (Bassin de Challans-Commequiers). Signification biostratigraphique, paléobiogéographique, paléoécologique
The Senonian Formation of Soullandeau in Vendée yielded more than 40 Bivalvia species (exclusive of rudists and inocerams), among 16 localities in the Challans-Commequiers basin. Bivalve assemblages and» biofacies are showing by their specific diversity gradient the fluctuations of the environment of the basin : low diversity (with Ostreacea only) in the Lower and Upper members on the Formation ; high diversity (with mainly Pteriomorphia) in the middle member, but with decrease from the sandy-calcareous parareef biotope with rudists to the sands with sponges. The preponderant paleobiogeographical relations are, from the Santonien to the Upper Campanian, with the near regions : Touraine, Poitou, North of the Aquitanian basin. Freneix Suzanne, Viaud J.M.
