Creating a Statesman: The Early Life of Prince Clemens von Metternich and its Effect on his Political Philosophy
As one of the most prolific and influential statesmen of the nineteenth century, Prince Clemens von Metternich is a man whose politics, policies, and political philosophy has received a good amount of attention from historians. Owing to the focus on his career rather than his personal story, the details of his early life have often gone unanalyzed in the context of his later views, despite the formative influence of these years on his political philosophy. An upbringing culturally influenced by France, an education focused on natural sciences and history, and a first-hand experience with the worst side of the French Revolution serve as the origins of key Metternichian principles, such as the balance of power, the legitimacy of monarchs, and conservative opposition to revolution, can be tracked to Metternich’s early life. Thus, in order to fully understand Metternich’s motives as a politician and diplomat, one must understanding his background and early life
Optimising foods for satiety
Foods that generate strong satiety sensations have obvious ben- efits for weight management. This review builds on the under- standing that a food’s satiating power is dependent on the amount of protein, carbohydrate, fat and fibre it contains by examining evidence that the consumer’s sensory and cognitive appraisal of the food is also important. It is concluded that numerous features of a food product can be manipulated to enhance the consumer’s experience of satiety but the combi- nation of these features will ultimately determine its effect on appetite control. Taking this integrated approach to satiety will optimise the development of high satiety foods
Killing for Trophies: An Analysis of Global Trophy Hunting Trade
As the trophy hunting industry has grown over the last few decades, governments, conservationists, and animal welfare advocates are keen to understand its global economic and conservation impacts with data as supporting evidence. Unfortunately, little credible research had been done to understand the global trophy industry's extent and impact..This report is a result of a comprehensive analysis of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Trade Database. This analysis can serve as a baseline for more study on how trophy hunting is changing and how the global industry ultimately affects animals and their populations, both regionally and globally
