El teatro mendocino en el siglo XIX : escenografía, decorados y otros recursos escénicos

Durante el siglo XIX, los diarios de Mendoza casi siempre soslayaban la mención a la escenografía y otros recursos técnicos propios del escenario. Esa escasa referencia no contribuye a la reconstrucción de las puestas. Además, no existía el mismo concepto de escenografía, decoración, ambientación o pintura que en la actualidad. Los distintos tipos de espectáculos artísticos ponían el acento en la utilería, los telones de fondo y el vestuario como una forma de ambientar el espacio donde se desarrollarían. El hombre de existencia real Juan Francisco Cubillos sembró un itinerario de hechos delictivos en Mendoza y sur de San Juan. Fuerzas policiales lo mataron en Los Paramillos de Uspallata, cuando contaba sólo 27 años. Inmediatamente el recuerdo popular de sus hazañas exaltó su figura con devoción religiosa. Con el tiempo se fue acrecentando su fama hasta adquirir la dimensión de leyenda o, tal vez, de mito con repercusiones que bien pudieran incidir en la identidad cultural de Mendoza. El teatro local reflejó las posibilidades estéticas del personaje en varias oportunidades, marcando un ciclo tardío de la gauchesca de sorprendente éxito tanto en lo autoral y espectacular como en la recepción.L'homme d'existence réelle Juan Francisco Cubillos a semé un itinéraire de faits criminels dans Mendoza et au sud de San Juan. Luxación pura de tobillo

Presentamos el caso de un paciente varón de 32 años con luxación cerrada de tobillo. En urgencias se realizó reducción bajo anestesia local y se inmovilizó con férula suropédica. A la semana se aplicó botín de yeso que retiramos a la 5a semana para iniciar movilizaciones activas. La carga se autorizó a la 6a semana y a los 2 meses la movilidad y la carga eran completas, pudiendo realizar a los 3.5 meses actividades de esfuerzo. Las luxaciones cerradas pueden ser tratadas ortopédicamente con una inmovilización de 5-6 semanas. La carga puede iniciarse progresivamente a partir de la sexta semana. Estas luxaciones tienen buen pronóstico funcional y una baja tasa de complicaciones.This paper reports on a 32-year-old patient with closed luxation of the ankle. Management consisted of inmediate reduction and inmovilization in a short leg cast. A week later we applied a cat boot that we removed at the fifth week and, 2 months later, mobility and load were complete. Effort activities could be made at the 3.5 months. Closed luxations can be treated orthopedicaly with immobilization during 5-6 weeks. The load can begin progressively at the sixth week. These luxations have good functional results and a low rate of complications

Free evolution of an incoherent mixture of states: a quantum mechanical approach to the van Cittert-Zernike theorem

We study the time evolution of an incoherent mixture of quantum states and demonstrate, in very simple terms, a quantum mechanical equivalent of van Cittert–Zernike theorem, which can be easily explained to Quantum Physics students with a basic knowledge of the density matrix theory. Properties and optimal manufacturing conditions of chicken feathers thermoplastics biocomposites

The aim of this study was the analysis and characterization of composites based on thermoplastics (ethylene vinyl acetate, polypropilene and high-density polyethylene) and chicken feathers. Several composite samples with a content of 20% v/v of chicken feathers have been studied to determine the optimal manufacturing conditions of temperature, mixing time, and mixing speed to achieve the best tensile properties. The results have shown that the addition of micronized chicken feather (20% v/v) to thermoplastic matrices increases stiffness and provides a more brittle behavior. Ethylene vinyl acetate matrix also shows an ability to participate in second-order intermolecular interactions with chicken feathers, providing better tensile properties (tensile strength and toughness) than polypropilene and high-density polyethylene. Optimal manufacturing conditions were found for a mixing time of around 5min; a mixing speed of 50rmin 1 ; and temperature values of 160 C in case of high-density polyethylene, 120 C for ethylene vinyl acetate, and 170 C for polypropilene. Expanding Rapid Prototyping for Electronic Systems Integration of Arbitrary Form

An innovative method for rapid prototyping (RP) of electronic circuits with components characteristic of typical electronics applications was demonstrated using an enhanced version of a previously developed hybrid stereolithography (SL) and direct write (DW) system, where an existing SL machine was integrated with a three-axis DW fluid dispensing system for combined arbitrary form electronic systems manufacturing. This paper presents initial efforts at embedding functional electronic circuits using the hybrid SL/DW system. A simple temperature-sensitive circuit was selected, which oscillated an LED at a frequency proportional to the temperature sensed by the thermistor. The circuit was designed to incorporate all the required electronic components within a 2.5” x 2” x 0.5” SL part. Electrical interconnects between electronic components were deposited on the SL part with a DW system using silver conductive ink lines. Several inks were deposited, cured, and tested on a variety of SL resin substrates, and the E 1660 ink (Ercon Inc, Wareham, MA) was selected due to its measured lowest average resistivity on the SL substrates. The finished circuit was compared with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology for functionality. The electronic components used here include a low voltage battery, LM 555 timer chip, resistors, a thermistor, capacitors, and Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). This circuit was selected because it (1) represented a simple circuit combining many typically used electronic components and thus provided a useful demonstration for integrated electronic systems manufacturing applicable to a wide variety of devices, and (2) provided an indication of the parasitic resistances and capacitances introduced by the fabrication process due to its sensitivity to manufacturing variation. The hybrid technology can help achieve significant size reductions, enable systems integration in atypical forms, a natural resistance to reverse engineering and possibly increase maximum operating temperatures of electronic circuits as compared to the traditional PCB process. This research demonstrates the ability of the hybrid SL/DW technology for fabricating combined electronic systems for unique electronics applications in which arbitrary form is a requirement and traditional PCB technology cannot be used.Mechanical Engineerin

Chiroptical Spectroscopy of C3 Molecules

The relevance of molecules with C3 symmetry comes from the fact of many of them, upon assembling as columnar helical macromolecules, are ideal platform for electro-optical devices, for example as liquid crystals. The properties of these devices are highly dependent of the structure of the bulk aggregates, and consequently they can be controlled by modifying the position and nature of the stereocenters in the molecular building blocks. Condrosarcoma vertebral: A propósito de un caso recidivado con invasión intradural

Presentamos un caso de condosarcoma primario vertebral en un paciente de 17 años, que, tras el tratamiento quirúrgico, radio y quimioterapia adyuvante, sufrió una recidiva con invasión intradural a los 5 años de evolución. El paciente fue reintervenido realizándose una descompresión medular y liberación radicular, pero debido a la extensión tumoral, no hubo recuperación neurológica, quedando un síndrome medular incompleto con nivel T10. La poca frecuencia de este tumor en la columna, la dificultad que implica la proximidad de la médula para obtener márgenes quirúrgicos suficientes, y la grave y rara complicación de invasión intradural, hace a éste un caso de especial interésWe present a vertebral primary chondosarcoma in a 17-year old male who was treated by surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Local recurrence with dural invasion occurred after 5-years of follow-up. The patient was reoperated, performing a spinal cord and roots decompression but, due to tumour invasion, there was no neurological recovery, with an incomplete spinal cord syndrome remaining. The spine is an unusual location for this tumour, being difficult to good surgical margins due to the proximity to neural elements, however, it is a rare complication to find dural invasion. Because of these findings this is very interesting case and our results are comparable to formerly published articles

Biofilm responses to marine fish farm wastes

The changes in the biofilm community due to organic matter enrichment, eutrophication and metal contamination derived from fish farming were studied. The biofilm biomass, polysaccharide content, trophic niche and element accumulation were quantified along an environmental gradient of fish farm wastes in two seasons. Biofilm structure and trophic diversity was influenced by seasonality as well as by the fish farm waste load. Fish farming enhanced the accumulation of organic carbon, nutrients, selenium and metals by the biofilm community. The accumulation pattern of these elements was similar regardless of the structure and trophic niche of the community. This suggests that the biofilm communities can be considered a reliable tool for assessing dissolved aquaculture wastes. Due to the ubiquity of biofilms and its wide range of consumers, its role as a sink of dissolved wastes may have important implications for the transfer of aquaculture wastes to higher trophic levels in coastal systems.This work was funded by the project AGL2004-08350-C02-01/ACU from the Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología, a predoctoral grant to C.
