    Personalidad Tipo D, hábitos de vida y riesgo cardiovascular

    The interaction of negative affect and stable social inhibition traits (Type D personality) is related to unhealthy lifestyle habits and cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study was to elucidate whether lifestyle habits mediate the relationship between Type D personality and blood pressure (BP) as a cardiovascular risk factor. A total of 91 participants (54.90% women) aged over 45 were assessed with measures of subjective health, Type D personality, lifestyle habits and BP. The Baron and Kenny’s (1986) model and the Preacher and Hayes’ (2008) procedure were used to analyse the mediation model. Results indicated that the relationship between Type D personality and systolic BP was partially mediated by lifestyle habits whereas a full mediation was observed in the case of diastolic BP. The practice of unhealthy habits could explain the indirect mechanism by which Type D personality is related to morbidity and mortality risk in cardiovascular patients.Personalidad Tipo D, hábitos de vida y riesgo cardiovascular. El objetivo de este estudio fue dilucidar si los hábitos de vida median la relación entre personalidad Tipo D y presión arterial (PA) como factor de riesgo cardiovascular. Un total de 91 participantes mayores de 45 años (54.90% mujeres) fueron evaluados de salud subjetiva, hábitos de vida, personalidad Tipo D y PA. Se utilizó el modelo de Baron y Kenny (1986) y el procedimiento de Preacher y Hayes (2008) para el análisis mediacional. Los hábitos de vida mediaron parcialmente la relación entre personalidad Tipo D y PA sistólica y, de manera total, la relación entre personalidad Tipo D y PA diastólica. La práctica de hábitos no saludables podría explicar el mecanismo indirecto mediante el cual la personalidad Tipo D se relaciona con el riesgo de morbilidad y mortalidad en pacientes cardíacos

    Influence of Modularity and Regularity on Disparity of Atelostomata Sea Urchins

    A modularity approach is used to study disparity rates and evolvability of sea urchins belonging to the Atelostomata superorder. For this purpose, the pentameric sea urchin architecture is partitioned into modular spatial components and the interference between modules is quantified using areas and a measurement of the regularity of the spatial partitions. This information is used to account for the variability through time (disparity) and potential for morphological variation and evolution (evolvability) in holasteroid echinoids. We obtain that regular partitions of the space produce modules with high modular integrity, whereas irregular partitions produce low modular integrity; the former ones are related with high morphological disparity (facilitation hypothesis). Our analysis also suggests that a pentameric body plan with low regularity rates in Atelostomata reflects a stronger modular integration among modules than within modules, which could favors bilaterality against radial symmetry. Our approach constitutes a theoretical platform to define and quantify spatial organization in partitions of the space that can be related to modules in a morphological analysis

    In this recent work we try to identify the characteristics of the franchisee profile that are preferred by the franchisor that operate in the spanish market. Franchisee profile is configured by several personal and business characteristics. This study is important because the franchisor must to do a correct selection of franchisees. In other case, when exist an error in the selection of franchisee will be produced the failure of the point of sale and as consequence the deterioration of the image of mark of the franchisor will be produced. We use Conjoint Analysis methodology to research preferences of franchisor about profile of franchisee. The conclusions obtained show the relative important of the franchisee attributes and the characteristics that configured this profile

    Metal Accumulation by Jatropha curcas L. Adult Plants Grown on Heavy Metal-Contaminated Soil

    Jatropha curcas has the ability to phytoextract high amounts of heavy metals during its first months just after seeding. Notwithstanding, there is scarce information about metal uptake by adult J. curcas plants. To shed light on this issue, 4-year-old J. curcas L. plants were planted in a soil mixture of peat moss and mining soil (high metals content), and the biomass growth and metal absorption during 90 days were compared with those of plants growing in peat moss. The main metal found in the mining soil was Fe (31985 mg kg-1) along with high amounts of As (23717 mg kg-1). After the 90-day phytoremediation, the plant removed 29% of Fe and 44% of As from the soil mixture. Results revealed that J. curcas L. translocated high amounts of metals to its aerial parts, so that translocation factors were much higher than 1. Because of the high translocation and bioaccumulation factors obtained, J. curcas L. can be regarded as a hyperaccumulator plant. Despite the great capacity of J. curcas L. to phytoremediate heavy-metal-contaminated soils, the main drawback is the subsequent handling of the metal-contaminated biomass, although some potential applications have been recently highlighted for this biomass.University of Seville (VIPPIT-2019-I.5

    Thinking Globally in the Pursuit of Individual Identity: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS)

    Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are core values that are unequivocally essential to healthcare research and practice. However, global health inequities remain pervasive and disruptive to the delivery of healthcare. This unacceptable lack of inclusivity and equity infiltrates all aspects of medicine, including research and publication. Accordingly, there is a dissemination of unbalanced and homogenous perspectives which are not representative of the global population. The International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS) has strived to counter such biases through the development of content and the process of its publication. Further, the selection of its editorial team and ambassadors is conducted with the intention of diversity. We respect individual differences and celebrate them as strengths adding to the quality of our journal. Therefore, the IJMS has taken a positive step toward an equitable environment by publishing a policy statement on DEI. We hope to lead by example by fostering a culture of inclusivity for all researchers, regardless of background. Though, we recognize the complexity of implementing comprehensive DEI practices and consider it our duty to the community that we continuously develop through a dedicated effort and iterative process

    Numerical simulation of Ge solar cells using D-AMPS-1D code

    A solar cell is a solid state device that converts the energy of sunlight directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect. When light with photon energies greater than the band gap is absorbed by a semiconductor material, free electrons and free holes are generated by optical excitation in the material. The main characteristic of a photovoltaic device is the presence of internal electric field able to separate the free electrons and holes so they can pass out of the material to the external circuit before they recombine. Numerical simulation of photovoltaic devices plays a crucial role in their design, performance prediction, and comprehension of the fundamental phenomena ruling their operation. The electrical transport and the optical behavior of the solar cells discussed in this work were studied with the simulation code D-AMPS-1D. This software is an updated version of the one-dimensional (1D) simulation program Analysis of Microelectronic and Photonic Devices (AMPS) that was initially developed at The Penn State University, USA. Structures such as homojunctions, heterojunctions, multijunctions, etc., resulting from stacking layers of different materials can be studied by appropriately selecting characteristic parameters. In this work, examples of cells simulation made with D-AMPS-1D are shown. Particularly, results of Ge photovoltaic devices are presented. The role of the InGaP buffer on the device was studied. Moreover, a comparison of the simulated electrical parameters with experimental results was performed

    Positional Quality Assessment of Orthophotos Obtained from Sensors Onboard Multi-Rotor UAV Platforms

    In this study we explored the positional quality of orthophotos obtained by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). A multi-rotor UAV was used to obtain images using a vertically mounted digital camera. The flight was processed taking into account the photogrammetry workflow: perform the aerial triangulation, generate a digital surface model, orthorectify individual images and finally obtain a mosaic image or final orthophoto. The UAV orthophotos were assessed with various spatial quality tests used by national mapping agencies (NMAs). Results showed that the orthophotos satisfactorily passed the spatial quality tests and are therefore a useful tool for NMAs in their production flowchart

    Simulación numérica de celdas solares de GaAs

    La provisión de energía eléctrica en los satélites está dada en casi la totalidad de los casos por sistemas fotovoltaicos, siendo las celdas solares el principal componente de dicho sistema, y el GaAs y el InGaP los materiales fotovoltaicos más importantes en aplicaciones espaciales. Dada la importancia que tienen este dipo de dispositivos se realizó la optimización y simulación numérica de una celda de GaAs mediante el código D-AMPS-1D. En este trabajo se detallan algunos de los parámetros necesarios para la simulación numérica, como los offsets de las bandas de valencia y de conducción en las interfaces, la movilidad de los portadores, la recombinación y el tiempo de vida media de los portadores y los índices de refracción complejos (n, k). Por último se muestran los parámetros eléctricos resultantes de la simulación realizada sobre un caso particular.The power supply in satellites in most cases is given by photovoltaic systems, being the solar cels the main component of such system and GaAs and InGaP the more important materials in space applications. Given the importance gained by these type of devices the optimization and numerical simulation of GaAs solar cells was performed by using the DAMPS-1D code. In this work, some of the parameters necessary for the simulations as interface bands offsets, carrier mobilities, recombination parameters and lifetime of carriers, and complex refraction indexes (n, k) are detailed.
