El trabajo analiza tres influyentes interpretaciones del imperio español. Estas son las del francés Montesquieu y las de los británicos Adam Smith y Jeremy Bentham. Los dos primeros trataron de identificar la naturaleza de de los fundamentos sobre los que aquél descansaba, que juzgaron a la vez distintos de Francia y Gran Bretaña e inadecuados para favorecer el crecimiento económico y el desarrollo de la sociedad moderna. Bentham extrapoló algunas de estas ideas para construir una particular interpretación sobre la imposibilidad de imperios liberales en el mundo Atlántic

Clinical utility of one versus two faecal immunochemical test samples in the detection of advanced colorectal neoplasia in symptomatic patients

The utility of faecal immunochemical tests (FIT) in assessment of symptomatic patients with lower gastrointestinal symptoms has not been well explored. The aims of this study were to evaluate the diagnostic yield for advanced colorectal neoplasia (ACRN) in symptomatic patients using the first of two FIT samples (FIT/1) and the higher concentration of two FIT samples (FIT/max). METHODS: Samples from two consecutive bowel motions from 208 symptomatic patients who required colonoscopy were analysed using the HM-JACKarc analyser (Kyowa Medex Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan). Patients were categorised into two groups: patients with any ACRN and individuals with other diagnoses or normal colonoscopy. RESULTS: Colonoscopy detected ACRN in 29 patients. In these patients, FIT/1 and FIT/max were significantly higher than in patients with low-risk adenoma (p=0.006 and p=0.024), other findings (p=0.002 and p=0.002) and normal colonoscopy (p<0.001 and p<0.001). The areas under the curves (AUC) of FIT/1 and FIT/max were 0.71 and 0.69, respectively. Undetectable FIT/1 rules out 96.6% of ACRN and the specificity was 10.6%. Increasing the FIT/1 cut-off to 10 μg Hb/g faeces, sensitivity and specificity were 34.5% and 87.2%, respectively. Similar results were obtained using FIT/max with 20 μg Hb/g faeces cut-off, providing a sensitivity and specificity of 34.5% and 85.6%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Undetectable FIT is a good strategy to rule-out ACRN in symptomatic patients. The diagnostic yield of collecting two samples for FIT can be achieved with one sample, but a lower faecal haemoglobin concentrations (f-Hb) cut-off is required

Human pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons are functionally mature in vitro and integrate into the mouse striatum following transplantation

Human Pluripotent Stem Cells (hPSCs) are a powerful tool for modelling human development. In recent years, hPSCSs have become central in cell-based therapies for neurodegenerative diseases given their potential to replace affected neurons. However, directing hPSCs into specific neuronal types is complex and requires an accurate protocol that mimics endogenous neuronal development. Here we describe step-by-step a novel and fast feeder-free neuronal differentiation protocol to direct hPSCs onto mature forebrain neurons in 37 days in vitro (DIV). The protocol is grounded on a combination of specific morphogens, trophic and growth factors, ions, neurotransmitters and extracellular matrix elements. An induced hPSC line (Ctr-Q33) and an embryonic hPSC line (GEN-Q18) were used to reinforce the potential of the protocol. Neuronal activity was analysed by single-cell calcium imaging. At 8 DIV, we obtained a homogeneous population of hPSCs-derived neuroectodermal progenitors which self-arranged in bi-dimensional neural tube-like structures. At 16 DIV, we generated hPSC-derived neural progenitors (NPCs) with mostly subpallial identity along with a subpopulation of pallial NPCs. Terminal in vitro neuronal differentiation was confirmed by the expression of microtubule associated protein 2b (Map2b) by almost 100% of hPSC-derived neurons and the expression of specific-striatal neuronal markers including GABA, CTIP2 and DARPP-32. HPSC-derived neurons showed mature and functional phenotypes as they expressed synaptic markers, voltage-gated ion channels and neurotransmitter receptors. Neurons displayed diverse spontaneous activity patterns that were classified into three major groups, namely 'high', 'intermediate' and 'low' firing neurons. Finally, transplantation experiments in vivo showed that highly relevant, committed NPCs survived within mouse striatum for at least 3 months. NPCs embodied host environmental cues and differentiated into striatal medium size spiny neurons (MSNs), which successfully integrated into the endogenous circuitry without the appearance of any teratoma symptom. Altogether, present findings demonstrate the potential of this in vitro human neuronal differentiation protocol, which will bring new opportunities for the study of human neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration, and will open new avenues in cell-based therapies, cutting-edge pharmacological studies and toxicology

Disminución accidentabilidad en supermercados y almacenes mediante “learning by doing” con uso 3D en 1º CFGS de Técnico Superior de Gestión de Ventas y Espacios Comerciales (FOL)

After the COVID pandemic in which the supermarket sector was considered and valued as an essential service for society, the workers in this sector received unanimous social recognition for their important work, which stood out especially during the weeks that the confinement lasted. It is a sector that covers the positions of cashiers and store clerks mainly with young people between 16 and 29 years old with temporary contracts and part-time contracts in order to cover their needs throughout the month, which range from having more sales and production in the first and last week of the month to have less in the two that remain in between. This variability of working hours and rhythm means that the turnover rate is high compared to other sectors that are also better paid and that continuous hiring, especially to cover the Summer and Christmas campaigns, has to be done due to urgency without giving face-to-face training prior to hiring on occupational risks, which means that within the accident rate managed by the INSHT, the group of workers between 16 and 25 years of age appears as the one with the highest accident rate in this sector. To achieve the objective of reducing accident rates in this group, an educational intervention proposal has been designed using the "learning by doing" methodology with a 3D technique, contemplating the work unit "The management of occupational risk prevention ”, within the 1st year Labor Training and Orientation module, developed in the Higher Level Training Cycle of Higher Technician in Sales Management and Commercial Spaces with which it aspires to contribute to reducing the accident rate in this group of 16 to 29 years.Tras la pandemia del COVID en la que el sector de supermercados fue considerado y valorado como servicio esencial para la sociedad, los trabajadores de este sector recibieron el reconocimiento social unánime a su importante labor. Dentro de los supermercados los puestos de trabajo más habituales son los de reponedor, cajero, encargado de tienda, carnicero, charcutero, pescadero y panadero. Por la necesidad de disponer de numeroso personal contratado a tiempo parcial y porque sus retribuciones son bajas, se suele nutrir de personal entre 16 y 29 años que o bien han dejado los estudios y por tanto no tienen apenas formación o bien son estudiantes de ciclos formativos que necesitan compaginar sus estudios con un trabajo. Ese numeroso personal a tiempo parcial le permite a la empresa de supermercados adaptar el personal de que dispone a la venta según el día de la semana o mes que se trate ya que no se vende lo mismo un viernes que un martes y no se vende lo mismo un 30 de mes que un 17 del mismo mes. Esa variabilidad de jornada y ritmo provoca que el índice de rotación sea elevado con respecto a otros sectores que además son mejores retribuidos y que la continua contratación, sobre todo para cubrir las campañas de Verano y de Navidad se tenga que hacer por la urgencia sin dar la formación presencial previa a la contratación en materia de riesgos laborales, lo que provoca que dentro del índice de siniestralidad que maneja el INSHT (Instituto Nacional de Seguridad e Higiene en el Trabajo) aparezca el grupo de trabajadores comprendidos entre 16 y 29 años como el que tiene más accidentabilidad en este sector. Para lograr el objetivo de reducción de accidentabilidad en este colectivo, se ha diseñado una propuesta de intervención educativa mediante la metodología “learning by doing” con técnica de uso de 3D, contemplando la unidad de trabajo “La gestión de la prevención de los riesgos laborales”, dentro del módulo de Formación y Orientación Laboral de 1º curso, desarrollado en el Ciclo Formativo de Grado Superior de Técnico Superior en Gestión de Ventas y Espacios Comerciales con la que se aspira a contribuir a la rebaja de la accidentabilidad en este colectivo de 16 a 29 años

In this paper, advantages of using poster as a learning tool when teaching engineering are described. Posters have been used for almost ten years in ETSEIAT (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenierías Industrial y Aeronáutica de Terrassa) and this experience has to be considered as highly positive. En esta comunicación se describen las ventajas de empleo del póster como herramienta de aprendizaje en el desarrollo de las asignaturas de ingeniería. En la ETSEIAT (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenierías Industrial y Aeronáutica de Terrassa) se viene utilizando desde hace casi 10 años y la experiencia debe calificarse como altamente positiva

Tendencia a la semi-presencialidad y propuesta de tutorización por videoconferencias

La clase expositiva remonta al siglo XII como eje básico del modelo de aprendizaje superior. Los papeles y funciones repartidos eran muy simples: el maestro transmitía sus conocimientos-sabiduría al discípulo-estudiante, y así ha sido a lo largo de los últimos nueve siglos. Dicho planteamiento ha podido funcionar de forma efectiva mientras que el acceso a los estudios superiores era limitado, pero con el acceso creciente y masivo no funciona. Uno de los factores que provocan este fracaso es la ratio alumnos-profesor que ha venido incrementándose de forma espectacular. En este marco aparece la semi-presencialidad, que nos ayudará a optimizar los recursos para un número mayor de estudiantes, y las nuevas tecnologías (Internet entre otros), que nos facilitarán la difusión de material didáctico y posibilitan nuevas interacciones entre docentes y alumnos. Por ello y para resolver una necesidad planteada por el alumno, de tener la presencia del profesor para la resolución de dudas (tutorías), en este trabajo exponemos la solución propuesta por el Departamento de Proyectos de la UPC en la Escuela de Terrassa, que consiste en poder hacer videoconferencias con el profesor, para la resolución de las dudas

L’histoire culturelle en France et en Espagne

Au-delà du phénomène de mode dont elle est l’objet, l’histoire culturelle a acquis une légitimité scientifique grâce aux travaux qui en ont démontré la fécondité épistémologique. Ce livre aborde les thèmes traditionnels de l’histoire culturelle : les politiques culturelles, les intellectuels, la lecture et l’édition, l’histoire de l’art, le patrimoine, les médias, les transferts culturels. Il montre comment des champs nouveaux gagnent à être investis par une approche d’histoire culturelle - comme les cultures politiques, le lien entre religion et culture, entre identité nationale et histoire, ou encore les cultures de guerre. Il examine enfin les articulations entre culture nationale et cultures régionales dans leurs modalités française et espagnole, ainsi que la signification de la naissance et de la consolidation de la culture de masse. Au fil de démonstrations, apparaissent des historiographies singulières dont le rapprochement permet une comparaison des situations et pose le socle d’un dialogue entre la France et l’Espagne.Abordando temas clásicos de la historia cultural (las políticas culturales, los intelectuales, la lectura y la edición, la historia del arte, el patrimonio, los medios de comunicación, las transferencias culturales), este libro muestra cuánto puede aportar un acercamiento propio de la historia cultural a ámbitos tales como la relación entre religión y cultura o entre identidad nacional e historia. Propone igualmente una reflexión acerca de la articulación entre cultura nacional y culturas regionales, así como acerca de la noción de cultura de masas
