A L\'evy input fluid queue with input and workload regulation
We consider a queuing model with the workload evolving between consecutive
i.i.d.\ exponential timers according to a
spectrally positive L\'evy process that is reflected at zero, and
where the environment equals 0 or 1. When the exponential clock
ends, the workload, as well as the L\'evy input process, are modified; this
modification may depend on the current value of the workload, the maximum and
the minimum workload observed during the previous cycle, and the environment
of the L\'evy input process itself during the previous cycle. We analyse
the steady-state workload distribution for this model. The main theme of the
analysis is the systematic application of non-trivial functionals, derived
within the framework of fluctuation theory of L\'evy processes, to workload and
queuing models
Embedding the dynamics of a single delay system into a feed-forward ring
We investigate the relation between the dynamics of a single oscillator with delayed self-feedback and a feed-forward ring of such oscillators, where each unit is coupled to its next neighbor in the same way as in the self-feedback case. We show that periodic solutions of the delayed oscillator give rise to families of rotating waves with different wave numbers in the corresponding ring. In particular, if for the single oscillator the periodic solution is resonant to the delay, it can be embedded into a ring with instantaneous couplings. We discover several cases where the stability of a periodic solution for the single unit can be related to the stability of the corresponding rotating wave in the ring. As a specific example we demonstrate how the complex bifurcation scenario of simultaneously emerging multi-jittering solutions can be transferred from a single oscillator with delayed pulse feedback to multi-jittering rotating waves in a sufficiently large ring of oscillators with instantaneous pulse coupling. Finally, we present an experimental realization of this dynamical phenomenon in a system of coupled electronic circuits of FitzHugh-Nagumo type
Cross-correlating Carbon Monoxide Line-intensity Maps with Spectroscopic and Photometric Galaxy Surveys
Line-intensity mapping (LIM or IM) is an emerging field of observational
work, with strong potential to fit into a larger effort to probe large-scale
structure and small-scale astrophysical phenomena using multiple complementary
tracers. Taking full advantage of such complementarity means, in part,
undertaking line-intensity surveys with galaxy surveys in mind. We consider the
potential for detection of a cross-correlation signal between COMAP and blind
surveys based on photometric redshifts (as in COSMOS) or based on spectroscopic
data (as with the HETDEX survey of Lyman- emitters). We find that
obtaining accuracy in redshifts and
sources per Mpc with spectroscopic redshift determination
should enable a CO-galaxy cross spectrum detection significance at least twice
that of the CO auto spectrum. Either a future targeted spectroscopic survey or

For a large class of heavy-tailed service time distributions, we determine the asymptotic behavior of the waiting time distribution. For the special case of Poisson arrivals and regularly varying service time distribution with index âÎœ, it is shown that the waiting time distribution is also regularly varying, with index 1 â Îœ, and the pre-factor is determined explicitly. Another contribution of the paper is the heavy-traffic analysis of the waiting time distribution in the M/G/1 case. We consider not only the case of finite service time variance, but also the case of regularly varying service time distribution with infinite variance
Ownership competence
Ownership is fundamental to firm strategy, organization, and governance. Standard ownership conceptsâmainly derived from agency and incomplete contracting theoriesâfocus on its incentive effects. However, these concepts and theories neglect ownership's role as an instrument to match judgment about resource use and governance with the firm's evolving environment under uncertainty. We develop the concept of ownership competenceâthe skill with which ownership is used as an instrument to create valueâand decompose it into matching competence (what to own), governance competence (how to own), and timing competence (when to own). We describe how property rights of use, appropriation, and transfer relate to the three ownership competences and show how our theory offers a fresh perspective into the role of ownership for value generation
The SRC family kinase inhibitor NXP900 demonstrates potent anti-tumor activity in squamous cell carcinomas
NXP900 is a selective and potent SRC family kinase (SFK) inhibitor, currently being dosed in a phase 1 clinical trial, that locks SRC in the âclosedâ conformation, thereby inhibiting both kinase-dependent catalytic activity and kinase-independent functions. In contrast, several multi-targeted kinase inhibitors that inhibit SRC, including dasatinib and bosutinib, bind their target in the active âopenâ conformation, allowing SRC and other SFKs to act as a scaffold to promote tumorigenesis through non-catalytic functions. NXP900 exhibits a unique target selectivity profile with sub-nanomolar activity against SFK members over other kinases. This results in highly potent and specific SFK pathway inhibition. Here, we demonstrate that esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (ESCC) and head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are exquisitely sensitive to NXP900 treatment in cell culture and in vivo, and we identify apatient population that could benefit from treatment with NXP900
