4-Methyl-N′-(2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene)benzene-1-sulfonohydrazide
In the title compound, C15H13N3O3S, the C—S—N(H)—N linkage is non-planar, the torsion angle being −65.12 (13)° and the S atom showing a tetrahedral environment. The compound has two almost planar fragments linked to the S atom: the isatin-derivative fragment [(C8H5NO)N—N(H)–] and the tolyl fragment [C7H7–] have maximum deviations from the mean plane through the non-H atoms of 0.0813 (13) and 0.0094 (16) Å, respectively, and make an interplanar angle of 80.48 (3)°. In the crystal, molecules are connected into inversion dimers via pairs of N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Additionally, the molecular structure is stabilized by an intramolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bond
Ewing's sarcoma of the head and neck
CONTEXT: Ewing's sarcoma is a rare neoplasm, which usually arises in long bones of the limbs and in flat bones of the pelvis, with the involvement of head and neck bones being very unusual. CASE REPORT: a case of Ewing's sarcoma occurring in the mandible of a 35-year-old female. Pain and swelling of the tumor were the main complaints. The early hypothesis was an undifferentiated malignant neoplasm, possibly a sarcoma. The CT scan depicted an expansive lesion, encapsulated, with septa and characteristics of soft tissue, involving the left side of the mandible and extending to the surrounding tissues. The patient underwent surgical excision of the lesion, the definitive diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma was established, and the patient commenced on radiotherapy.CONTEXTO: O Sarcoma de Ewing é uma doença que geralmente acomete os ossos longos e a pelve, sendo rara a ocorrência em cabeça e pescoço.
Effect of slaughter weight on the quality of Nile tilapia fillets
The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of slaughter weight on the expression of calpastatin, mcalpain
and the RyR3 gene, and on the chemical composition, morphometric measurements, fillet yield and
sensorial characteristics of Nile tilapia fillets. In the experiment, 90 Nile tilapia were divided into three experimental
treatments regarding slaughter weight (n = 30): in treatment 1, tilapia aged 140 days were
slaughtered with an average body weight of 665 ± 85 g; in treatment 2, the animals were slaughtered at
182 days and weighed 1000 ± 177 g; and in treatment 3, they were slaughtered at 238 days and weighed
1325 ± 167 g. There was no significant difference (P > .05) between the treatments for the chemical composition
and fillet yield. Fillets of tilapia slaughtered with a weight of 665 g presented higher expression of mcalpain
and lower expression of calpastatin gene, lower pH values of the thawed fillet, lower drip and thawing
loss, and lower shear force than animals slaughtered with the highest evaluated weight. Tilapias slaughtered at
665 g also presented higher flavor and general acceptance. These results show that slaughter weight may influence
important aspects of the quality of Nile tilapia fillets and that the slaughter of Nile tilapia with a body
weight of 665 g allows fillets that serve the consumer market to be obtained. This work was supported by the Conselho Nacional de

Phytochemical screening, antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of Chrysopogon zizanioides essential oil
Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty, Poaceae, is a plant widely used in northeast Brazil in folk medicine for the treatment of various pathological conditions, including inflammatory pain. The present study evaluated the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of C. zizanioides essential oil (EO) in rodents. EO was further characterized by GC/MS. The major components of EO were identified as khusimol (19.57%), E-isovalencenol (13.24%), α-vetivone (5.25%), β-vetivone (4.87%) and hydroxy-valencene (4.64%). Following intraperitoneal injection (i.p.), EO at 50 and 100 mg/kg significantly reduced the number of writhes (51.9 and 64.9%, respectively) and the number of paw licks during phase 2 (56.7 and 86.2%, respectively) of a formalin model when compared to control group animals. However, EO-treated mice were ineffective at all doses in hot-plate and rota-rod tests. The EO inhibited the carrageenan-induced leukocyte migration to the peritoneal cavity in a dose-dependent manner (34.7, 35.4, and 62.5% at doses of 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg, respectively). In the paw edema test, the EO (100 mg/kg) inhibited all three phases of the edema equally well, suggesting that the EO has a non-selective inhibitory effect on the release or actions of these mediators. Our results suggest possible antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of the EO
