preventivos eficaces

An Investigation of the Material Properties of Laser Sintered Parts Incorporating Conformal Lattice Structures (CLS™) Technology
Cellular materials, including foams, honeycombs, lattices, and similar constructions, offer
the key advantages of high strength-to-weight ratios and favorable energy absorption
characteristics. The concept of designed cellular materials enables customized material
placement to best suit the demands of specific applications or achieve particular performance
targets. The design, generation, and fabrication of conformal lattice structures via laser sintering
are at the center of the disruptive manufacturing technologies proposed by 3D Systems
Corporation. The primary work reported here is the maturation and mechanical testing of the
conformal lattice structure technology developed between 3D Systems Corporation and the
Georgia Institute of Technology.Mechanical Engineerin
Limitation of photosynthetic processes in photosystem II in alpine mosses exposed to low temperatures: Response of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters
In this study, we evaluated the effects of low and sub-zero temperature on the fast chlorophyll fluorescence transient (OJIP) and OJIP-derived parameters in 4 different mosses: Sphagnum girgensohnii, Polytrichum formosum, Hylocomium splendens and Pleurozium schreberi. The low temperature stress was applied on the mosses for 90 min. at 3 different temperatures (5°C, -1°C and -10°C). To investigate the effects of this stress on the functioning of photosystem II (PS II), the chlorophyll fluorescence measurements were taken at control temperature (22°C) and, after a 90 min. acclimation period, at each experimental temperature. The shape of OJIP curves and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters were found temperature-dependent in all the species. The mosses differed in their sensitivity to the stress but general trends in response to low temperature were similar. The results support the idea that S. girgensohnii is less resistant to low temperature stress than the other species. We were also interested in the K and L steps in OJIPs, representing different disorders caused by low temperature. The K-step was seen in P. formosum and P. schreberi and the L-step in H. splendens and S. girgensohnii
Evaluation of photosynthetic processes in Antarctic mosses and lichens exposed to controlled rate cooling: Species-specific responses
Antarctic regions involve a great variety of habitats characterized by environmental stressors and life forms of autotrophic organisms with unique survival and functioning mechanisms. Lichens and mosses from these regions, similarly to high altitude alpine locations, have evolved physiological adaptations to perform photosynthesis at subzero temperatures. In this study we applied linear cooling technique in order to analyze interspecific differences in primary photosynthetic processes in Antarctic species affected by low and subzero temperature stress. We exposed Sanionia uncinata, Rhizoplaca aspidophora, Ochrolechia frigida, Cladonia sp., Himantormia lugubris and Umbilicaria decussata to the cooling from 20 to -35°C at a constant rate of 2°C min-1. Fluorometric parameters were measured during the cooling experiments: FV/FM - potential yield of photosynthetic processes in photosystem II, and F0 - minimal chlorophyll fluorescence. All the species showed S-curves for FV/FM in response to decreasing temperature and interspecific differences in the parameters of S-curve equation. Critical temperature for FV/FM was found -35°C for U. decussata, while the other species ranged between -16 to -20°C. The changes of F0 with thallus temperature decrease were species-specific. F0 decrease followed by an increase was found with cooling from 20 to -20°C, and from -20 to -35°C, respectively, in the majority of cases. These results suggest that the experimental moss and lichen species from Antarctica have a high resistance to freezing temperatures. The underlying physiological mechanisms are constitutive features of Antarctic lichens and mosses. They are a crucial part of the adaptation and short-term acclimatory changes in ecophysiological performance of the organisms in harsh polar environments.
A Small Platform for Astrophysical Research Based on the UPM-Sat 1 Satellite of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
UPM-Sat 1 is a small scientific, in-orbit demonstration, educational satellite which has been designed, built, tested, integrated, launched and operated by a team of professors, students, and auxiliary personnel belonging to the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). After completion of UPM-Sat 1 Mission a new small satellite, UPM-Sat 2, oriented to low-Earth-orbit scientific mission has been designed. In this paper the different subsystems of UPM-Sat 1 are described and the main characteristics of the second small satellite UPM-Sat 2 are outlined
