    Introduction: The constantly education of anybody profession, in special the nursery advance with the professionals diferents stamentsneeds a permanent plan of formation. If we set a real commitment with transformation on labor and social practice, as the quality of the attention; this plan cannot be conceived without integrating the institutions of effective performance. Objetive: To compare the degree of Knowledges of the nursing personal of the education Model in Diabetes Mellitus for the health before and after of a educative intervatiun. Material and methods: It is realized comparative research before and after to 25 nurses, them to attend to the educative intervatiun, it was the model capacitation in Diabetes Mellitus of the health education using didactics strategists. That permitted to personal having more participation, of the one hour 30 minutes, each one. The instrument elaborated of an examination structured with question of options multiples and false and true, with a value 70% o the items, and a clinical case of diabetic patient with a value of 30%. Result: The middle of age of the student population was to 38 years, with a DE plus 5.3 about to the degree of Knowledges to the infirmary personal of the education model for the health education before of the educative intervatiun. The 80% was low. After of theintervatiun to winnowen 72% high. With proof of the hypothesis of WILCOXON = with value PO. 05. Conclusions: The effect of the educative intervatiun was significant statistically, for the sake of the degree of knowledges to education model in Diabetes Mellitus for the health was bigger after to the intervatiun.Introducción: La Educación permanente de cualquier profesión, en especial el avance en enfermería con sus distintos estamentos de profesionales, requiere de un plan permanente de formación. Si se plantea un compromiso real con la transformación en la práctica laboral y social, así como con la calidad de la atención, dicho plano no puede concebirse sin integrar a las instituciones de desempeño efectivo. Objetivo: Comparar el grado de conocimientos del personal de enfermería del modelo educación para la salud en Diabetes Mellitus antes y después de una intervención educativa. Material y métodos: Se realizó estudio comparativo antes y después, a 25 enfermeras, las cuales asistieron a la intervención educativa de capacitación del modelo de Educación para la Salud en Diabetes Mellitus, utilizando estrategias didácticas que permitieron al personal tener mayor participación. En total se desarrollaron 15 sesiones de hora y media cada una. El instrumento se elaboró a través de un examen estructurado con preguntas de opción múltiple y falso y verdadero con un valor del 70% de los ítems y un caso clínico de paciente diabético con un valor de 30% de lo ítems. Resultados: El promedio de edad de la población estudiada fue de 38 años, con una DE +5.3. Referente al grado de conocimiento del personal de enfermería del Modelo de Educación para la Salud antes de la intervención educativa, el 80% salió BAJO. Después de la intervención arrojó el 72% ALTO. Con prueba WLCOXON = con valor P < 0.05. Conclusiones: El efecto de la intervención educativa fue estadísticamente significativa; por lo que el grado de conocimientos del modelo de Educación para la Salud en Diabetes Mellitus fue mayor después de la intervención

    Lean Manufacturing Model for production management to increase SME productivity in the non-primary manufacturing sector

    Currently, there is a large percentage of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Peruvian textile market that show economic loss because of the payment of penalties to customers, which are incurred owing to the delay in the delivery of order batches. This is due to poor production management and a lack of focus. The manufacturing sector is essential because of its high contribution to the country's gross domestic product. Currently, SMEs do not employ methodologies that help improve production and process management as they do not realize how important and necessary the methodologies are, in addition to how complex these may be. Therefore, this paper will propose a production management model designed for SMEs in this sector, based on Lean methodology where the objective is time reductions and production increases as well as exerting changes to the organizational culture. Thus, this model will help organizations to avoid incurring economic losses because of the payment of penalties for orders not delivered on time. To validate the present model, a time simulation was performed in the manufacturing area of a textile company. The result of this project was positive, since there was a 25% increase in productivity and a 20% reduction of takt time with respect to the initial data

    Numerical Modelling of Caseless Ammunition with Coreless Bullet in Internal Ballistics

    In the search of a new weapon for combat in short range, it is proposed the use of a new experimentally designed 7.62 mm calibre ammunition with a lighter weight (caseless-coreless). This can be used in carbine assault rifles with short barrel or pistols. In this work, the compressible gases flowing through the gun barrel caused by the proposed ammunition were experimentally and numerically analysed. The Large Eddy Simulation was used for the numerical simulation, considering a compressible and turbulent flow, with the chemical species transport model and a complete conversion of the propellant reaction. Variations in pressure and temperature were compared with the results obtained from a conventional 7.62 mm full metal jacket (FMJ) ammunition. Results of ballistic experimental tests and numerical simulations were similar than those of the 9 mm x 19 mm FMJ ammunitions, showing feasibility for the development of new weapons intended for operations of short range shots.Defence Science Journal, Vol. 65, No. 3, May 2015, pp.203-207, DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.65.851

    The Large Aperture GRB Observatory (LAGO) is aiming at the detection of the high energy (around 100 GeV) component of Gamma Ray Bursts, using the single particle technique in arrays of Water Cherenkov Detectors (WCD) in high mountain sites (Chacaltaya, Bolivia, 5300 m a.s.l., Pico Espejo, Venezuela, 4750 m a.s.l., Sierra Negra, Mexico, 4650 m a.s.l). WCD at high altitude offer a unique possibility of detecting low gamma fluxes in the 10 GeV - 1 TeV range.     Water Cherenkov Detectors response to a Gamma Ray Burst in the Large Aperture GRB Observatory

    In order to characterise the behaviour of Water Cherenkov Detectors (WCD) under a sudden increase of 1 GeV - 1 TeV background photons from a Gamma Ray Burst (GRB), simulations were conducted and compared to data acquired by the WCD of the Large Aperture GRB Observatory (LAGO). The LAGO operates arrays of WCD at high altitude to detect GRBs using the single particle technique. The LAGO sensitivity to GRBs is derived from the reported simulations of the gamma initiated particle showers in the atmosphere and the WCD response to secondaries.Comment: 5 pages, proceeding of the 31st ICRC 200

    The Interplay between Entamoeba and Enteropathogenic Bacteria Modulates Epithelial Cell Damage

    In amoebiasis, a human disease that is a serious health problem in many developing countries, efforts have been made to identify responsible factors for the tissue damage inflicted by the parasite Entamoeba histolytica. This amoeba lives in the lumen of the colon without causing damage to the intestinal mucosa, but under unknown circumstances becomes invasive, destroying the intestinal tissue. Bacteria in the intestinal flora have been proposed as inducers of higher amoebic virulence, but the causes or mechanisms responsible for the induction are still undetermined. Mixed intestinal infections with Entamoeba histolytica and enteropathogenic bacteria, showing exacerbated manifestations of disease, are common in endemic countries. We implemented an experimental system to study amoebic virulence in the presence of pathogenic bacteria and its consequences on epithelial cells. Results showed that amoebae that ingested enteropathogenic bacteria became more virulent, causing more damage to epithelial cells. Bacteria induced release of inflammatory proteins by the epithelial cells that attracted amoebae, facilitating amoebic contact to the epithelial cells and higher damage. Our results, although a first approach to this complex problem, provide insights into amoebic infections, as interplay with other pathogens apparently influences the intestinal environment, the behavior of cells involved and the manifestations of the disease

    No association between polymorphisms/haplotypes of the vascular endothelial growth factor gene and preeclampsia

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Preeclampsia (PE) is the first worldwide cause of death in pregnant women, intra-uterine growth retardation, and fetal prematurity. Some vascular endothelial grown factor gene (<it>VEGF</it>) polymorphisms have been associated to PE and other pregnancy disturbances. We evaluated the associations between <it>VEGF </it>genotypes/haplotypes and PE in Mexican women.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>164 pregnant women were enrolled in a case-control study (78 cases and 86 normotensive pregnant controls). The rs699947 (-2578C/A), rs1570360 (-1154G/A), rs2010963 (+405G/C), and rs25648 (-7C/T), <it>VEGF </it>variants were discriminated using Polymerase Chain Reaction - Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) methods or Taqman single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) assays.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The proportions of the minor allele for rs699947, rs1570360, rs2010963, and rs25648 <it>VEGF </it>SNPs were 0.33, 0.2, 0.39, and 0.17 in controls, and 0.39, 0.23, 0.41, and 0.15 in cases, respectively (<it>P </it>values > 0.05). The most frequent haplotypes of rs699947, rs1570360, rs2010963, and rs25648 <it>VEGF </it>SNPs, were C-G-C-C and C-G-G-C with frequencies of 0.39, 0.21 in cases and 0.37, 0.25 in controls, respectively (<it>P </it>values > 0.05)</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>There was no evidence of an association between <it>VEGF </it>alleles, genotypes, or haplotypes frequencies and PE in our study.</p

    Peripheral T-lymphocytes express WNT7A and its restoration in leukemia-derived lymphoblasts inhibits cell proliferation

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>WNT7a, a member of the Wnt ligand family implicated in several developmental processes, has also been reported to be dysregulated in some types of tumors; however, its function and implication in oncogenesis is poorly understood. Moreover, the expression of this gene and the role that it plays in the biology of blood cells remains unclear. In addition to determining the expression of the <it>WNT7A </it>gene in blood cells, in leukemia-derived cell lines, and in samples of patients with leukemia, the aim of this study was to seek the effect of this gene in proliferation.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We analyzed peripheral blood mononuclear cells, sorted CD3 and CD19 cells, four leukemia-derived cell lines, and blood samples from 14 patients with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and 19 clinically healthy subjects. Reverse transcription followed by quantitative Real-time Polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis were performed to determine relative <it>WNT7A </it>expression. Restoration of WNT7a was done employing a lentiviral system and by using a recombinant human protein. Cell proliferation was measured by addition of WST-1 to cell cultures.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>WNT7a is mainly produced by CD3 T-lymphocytes, its expression decreases upon activation, and it is severely reduced in leukemia-derived cell lines, as well as in the blood samples of patients with ALL when compared with healthy controls (<it>p </it>≤0.001). By restoring <it>WNT7A </it>expression in leukemia-derived cells, we were able to demonstrate that WNT7a inhibits cell growth. A similar effect was observed when a recombinant human WNT7a protein was used. Interestingly, restoration of <it>WNT7A </it>expression in Jurkat cells did not activate the canonical Wnt/β-catenin pathway.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>To our knowledge, this is the first report evidencing quantitatively decreased <it>WNT7A </it>levels in leukemia-derived cells and that <it>WNT7A </it>restoration in T-lymphocytes inhibits cell proliferation. In addition, our results also support the possible function of <it>WNT7A </it>as a tumor suppressor gene as well as a therapeutic tool.</p

    Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

    Ever since their discovery in the 1970's, UltraLuminous InfraRed Galaxies (ULIRGs; classically Lir>10^12Lsun) have fascinated astronomers with their immense luminosities, and frustrated them due to their singularly opaque nature, almost in equal measure. Over the last decade, however, comprehensive observations from the X-ray through to the radio have produced a consensus picture of local ULIRGs, showing that they are mergers between gas rich galaxies, where the interaction triggers some combination of dust-enshrouded starburst and AGN activity, with the starburst usually dominating. Very recent results have thrown ULIRGs even further to the fore. Originally they were thought of as little more than a local oddity, but the latest IR surveys have shown that ULIRGs are vastly more numerous at high redshift, and tantalizing suggestions of physical differences between high and low redshift ULIRGs hint at differences in their formation modes and local environment. In this review we look at recent progress on understanding the physics and evolution of local ULIRGs, the contribution of high redshift ULIRGs to the cosmic infrared background and the global history of star formation, and the role of ULIRGs as diagnostics of the formation of massive galaxies and large-scale structures.Comment: Review article, published in "Astrophysics Update 2 - topical and timely reviews on astronomy and astrophysics".
