    We obtain various new well-posedness results for continuity and transport equations, among them an existence and uniqueness theorem (in the class of strongly continuous solutions) in the case of nearly incompressible vector fields, possibly having a blow-up of the BV norm at the initial time. We apply these results (valid in any space dimension) to the k x k chromatography system of conservation laws and to the k x k Keyfitz and Kranzer system, both in one space dimension.Comment: 33 pages, minor change

    In this note we prove that, if the cost function satisfies some necessary structural conditions and the densities are bounded away from zero and infinity, then strictly c-convex potentials arising in optimal transportation belong to W2,1+\u3baloc for some \u3ba>0. This generalizes some recents results concerning the regularity of strictly convex Alexandrov solutions of the Monge-Amp\`ere equation with right hand side bounded away from zero and infinity

    A glimpse into the differential topology and geometry of optimal transport

    This note exposes the differential topology and geometry underlying some of the basic phenomena of optimal transportation. It surveys basic questions concerning Monge maps and Kantorovich measures: existence and regularity of the former, uniqueness of the latter, and estimates for the dimension of its support, as well as the associated linear programming duality. It shows the answers to these questions concern the differential geometry and topology of the chosen transportation cost. It also establishes new connections --- some heuristic and others rigorous --- based on the properties of the cross-difference of this cost, and its Taylor expansion at the diagonal.Comment: 27 page

    Mean-field evolution of fermions with singular interaction

    We consider a system of N fermions in the mean-field regime interacting though an inverse power law potential V(x)=1/xαV(x)=1/|x|^{\alpha}, for α(0,1]\alpha\in(0,1]. We prove the convergence of a solution of the many-body Schr\"{o}dinger equation to a solution of the time-dependent Hartree-Fock equation in the sense of reduced density matrices. We stress the dependence on the singularity of the potential in the regularity of the initial data. The proof is an adaptation of [22], where the case α=1\alpha=1 is treated.Comment: 16 page

    Probabilistic representation for solutions of an irregular porous media type equation: the degenerate case

    We consider a possibly degenerate porous media type equation over all of Rd\R^d with d=1d = 1, with monotone discontinuous coefficients with linear growth and prove a probabilistic representation of its solution in terms of an associated microscopic diffusion. This equation is motivated by some singular behaviour arising in complex self-organized critical systems. The main idea consists in approximating the equation by equations with monotone non-degenerate coefficients and deriving some new analytical properties of the solution

    On the wellposedness of some McKean models with moderated or singular diffusion coefficient

    We investigate the well-posedness problem related to two models of nonlinear McKean Stochastic Differential Equations with some local interaction in the diffusion term. First, we revisit the case of the McKean-Vlasov dynamics with moderate interaction, previously studied by Meleard and Jourdain in [16], under slightly weaker assumptions, by showing the existence and uniqueness of a weak solution using a Sobolev regularity framework instead of a Holder one. Second, we study the construction of a Lagrangian Stochastic model endowed with a conditional McKean diffusion term in the velocity dynamics and a nondegenerate diffusion term in the position dynamics
