A correction on Shiloach's algorithm for minimum linear arrangement of trees
More than 30 years ago, Shiloach published an algorithm to solve the minimum
linear arrangement problem for undirected trees. Here we fix a small error in
the original version of the algorithm and discuss its effect on subsequent
literature. We also improve some aspects of the notation.Comment: A new introductory paragraph has been added; error solutions and
notation improvements are discussed with more dept
Engineering a QoS Provider Mechanism for Edge Computing with Deep Reinforcement Learning
With the development of new system solutions that integrate traditional cloud
computing with the edge/fog computing paradigm, dynamic optimization of service
execution has become a challenge due to the edge computing resources being more
distributed and dynamic. How to optimize the execution to provide Quality of
Service (QoS) in edge computing depends on both the system architecture and the
resource allocation algorithms in place. We design and develop a QoS provider
mechanism, as an integral component of a fog-to-cloud system, to work in
dynamic scenarios by using deep reinforcement learning. We choose reinforcement
learning since it is particularly well suited for solving problems in dynamic
and adaptive environments where the decision process needs to be frequently
updated. We specifically use a Deep Q-learning algorithm that optimizes QoS by
identifying and blocking devices that potentially cause service disruption due
to dynamicity. We compare the reinforcement learning based solution with
state-of-the-art heuristics that use telemetry data, and analyze pros and cons
Technical Note TN 2.2 Fuel load sampling of a Cupressus sempervirens hedge
In this document, data from a destructive sampling of a Cupressus sempervirens hedgerow are shown, as well as the followed methodology. Measures of sizes and weights have been taken. With these data, moisture content, fuel load and bulk density have been calculated. Different fuel classes (state and diameter) have been taken into account.Postprint (updated version
A free-energy stable nodal discontinuous Galerkin approximation with summation-by-parts property for the Cahn-Hilliard equation
We present a nodal Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) scheme for the Cahn-Hilliard
equation that satisfies the summation-by-parts simultaneous-approximation-term
(SBP-SAT) property. The latter permits us to show that the discrete free-energy
is bounded, and as a result, the scheme is provably stable. The scheme and the
stability proof are presented for general curvilinear three-dimensional
hexahedral meshes. We use the Bassi-Rebay 1 (BR1) scheme to compute interface
fluxes, and an IMplicit-EXplicit (IMEX) scheme to integrate in time. Lastly, we
test the theoretical findings numerically and present examples for two and
three-dimensional problems
SERS study of different species of p-aminothiophenol adsorbed on silver nanoparticles
In the present work we have focused the discussion on the experimental and theoretical SERS spectra of the organic compound pATP recorded on silver colloids. The huge SERS of pATP on metal substrates is significantly different from its ordinary Raman spectra due to the formation of a new specie namely p,p’ –dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB). The features of the SERS spectra of pATP are strongly dependent on many factors as i.e. the laser power density or the laser wavelength but there are still important aspects to understand as, for example, the effect of the concentration that has already been studied before by our group. In this case we have analyzed the effect of the concentration at different wavelengths on the SERS spectra of pATP on silver nanoparticles.
llamamos estados.Th is paper analyses the concepts of homeland, nation and
state in the writings of Cicero, their subsequent infl uence, and the
importance of religion and the exercise of priestly offi ces in the making
of institutional decisions. Among some political scientists, the Roman
republic, and in general political communities of antiquity, should not
be considered a state because it lacks the distinctive features that the
only recognise from the modern age onwards. But the words of Cicero
and the constitutional organization of the Roman res publica, confi rm
that the Roman citizens organised themselves in a community with the
same features as those which, since Machiavelli, we call states
El mercado en la antigua Roma y la economía agropecuaria en tiempos de crisis
This paper presents an overview of the market concept and investigates the features that characterize the economy of the Roman Empire. The agricultural production leadership and importance in the Late Antiquity is asserted, unveiling the scarce mercantile spirit among the wealthy landowners.
