Global well-posedness and symmetries for dissipative active scalar equations with positive-order couplings
We consider a family of dissipative active scalar equations outside the L2-space. This was introduced in [7] and its velocity fields are coupled with the active scalar via a class of multiplier operators which morally behave as derivatives of positive order. We prove global well-posedness and time-decay of solutions, with-out smallness assumptions, for initial data belonging to the critical Lebesgue space Ln/2y-β (ℝn ) which is a class larger than that of the above reference. Symmetry properties of solutions are investigated depending on the symmetry of initial data and coupling operators
Computer-Generated Music for Tabletop Role-Playing Games
In this paper we present Bardo Composer, a system to generate background
music for tabletop role-playing games. Bardo Composer uses a speech recognition
system to translate player speech into text, which is classified according to a
model of emotion. Bardo Composer then uses Stochastic Bi-Objective Beam Search,
a variant of Stochastic Beam Search that we introduce in this paper, with a
neural model to generate musical pieces conveying the desired emotion. We
performed a user study with 116 participants to evaluate whether people are
able to correctly identify the emotion conveyed in the pieces generated by the
system. In our study we used pieces generated for Call of the Wild, a Dungeons
and Dragons campaign available on YouTube. Our results show that human subjects
could correctly identify the emotion of the generated music pieces as
accurately as they were able to identify the emotion of pieces written by
humans.Comment: To be published in the 16th AAAI Conference ON Artificial

Quantitative supply chain segmentation model for dynamic alignment
[EN] Companies deal with different customer groups, requirements differ among them, which makes it important to define the service level precisely and improve customer service through different supply chain strategies for each group. An alternative to deal with imprecision related to the segmentation processes suggested by either the Leagile or the Dynamic Alignment Schools is the application of fuzzy set theory. The objective of this work is to develop a quantitative model that uses the fuzzy set theory and, based on sales data, assess the company s supply chain(s). The model's aim is to facilitate managers' decision-making processes to achieve the dynamic alignment. It was possible to identify the supply chains that serve the client groups evaluated, providing answers faster than the analysis proposed by the models found in the literature. The application in two real situations validated the model since the results obtained were consistent with the reality pointed out by the experts of the companies assessed. The model indicates possible actions for the realignment of the supply chain by their managers. Results obtained should improve practice, preparing managers to cope with the organizations` multiple supply chains. This study is the first one that aims to segment quantitatively supply chains on a company applying fuzzy set theory, providing a novel approach to align operations and supply chain strategy dynamically.Alves Ferreira, R.; A. Choosing Well Your Opponents: How to Guide the Synthesis of Programmatic Strategies
This paper introduces Local Learner (2L), an algorithm for providing a set of
reference strategies to guide the search for programmatic strategies in
two-player zero-sum games. Previous learning algorithms, such as Iterated Best
Response (IBR), Fictitious Play (FP), and Double-Oracle (DO), can be
computationally expensive or miss important information for guiding search
algorithms. 2L actively selects a set of reference strategies to improve the
search signal. We empirically demonstrate the advantages of our approach while
guiding a local search algorithm for synthesizing strategies in three games,
including MicroRTS, a challenging real-time strategy game. Results show that 2L
learns reference strategies that provide a stronger search signal than IBR, FP,
and DO. We also simulate a tournament of MicroRTS, where a synthesizer using 2L
outperformed the winners of the two latest MicroRTS competitions, which were
programmatic strategies written by human programmers.Comment: International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI)
