Exploring the Experiences of Supervisors and Supervisees who engaged in Bilingual Supervision

    Get PDF
This qualitative phenomenological study explored the experiences of clinical supervisors and supervisees who engaged in bilingual supervision. Five supervisors and five supervisees were recruited utilizing purposive and snowball sampling strategies and were interviewed using a semi-structured interview protocol. Findings of this study focused primarily on the challenges and benefits associated with engaging in bilingual supervision. Main findings included the lack of formal training in bilingual counseling and supervision. Implications for training programs highlighted the need for continuous support of bilingual training programs, in particular, the development of both multicultural and linguistic competencies

Expression of homoeologous molecular systems in wheat alloploids

    Get PDF
Allopolyploidy is widespread in the plant kingdom, where it has been of considerable evolutionary significance. Although the existence of heterotic interactions between the genomes that make up an alloploid have been generally assumed, the precise nature of these interactions has not been extensively investigated. Presently available evidence about metabolic integration of the wheat genomes is examined in search of new insights about the different modes of genome interaction. Although additive expression seems to be the case for many homoeologous systems, more complex patterns of integration have become evident. Examples of enzyme subunit complementation, gene compensation and other dosage effects, holoprotein completion, and complementation of metabolic pathways are discussed

Through its economic, social and environmental functions, peri-urban agriculture results in a large number of positive and negative externalities. As these are market failures, this study focuses on the suburban agricultural area of Horta de Lleida where thirty-one externalities have been identified by means of a participatory assessment process with a group of experts. The environmental function produces the greatest social benefit to the surrounding population, although there is no benefit for landowners. Moreover, one in five externalities of Horta de Lleida is negative and results in social costs that are not internalised in the market.

Rating the Raters: Evaluating how ESG Rating Agencies Integrate Sustainability Principles

    Get PDF
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) rating agencies, acting as relevant financial market actors, should take a stand on working towards achieving a more sustainable development. In this context, the objective of this paper is, on the one hand, to understand how criteria used by ESG rating agencies in their assessment processes have evolved over the last ten years and, on the other hand, to analyze whether ESG rating agencies are contributing to fostering sustainable development by the inclusion of sustainability principles into their assessment processes and practices according to the ESG criteria. This research is based on a comparative descriptive analysis of the public information provided by the most representative ESG rating and information provider agencies in the financial market in two periods: 2008 and 2018. The findings show that ESG rating agencies have integrated new criteria into their assessment models to measure corporate performance more accurately and robustly in order to respond to new global challenges. However, a deep analysis of the criteria also shows that ESG rating agencies do not fully integrate sustainability principles into the corporate sustainability assessment process

Bio-adhesives from soy protein concentrate and montmorillonite: Rheological and thermal behaviour

    Get PDF
The incorporation of different amounts of montmorillonite (MMT) to soy protein concentrate (SPC) was used to improve the performance of the bio-nano-adhesive obtained. X-Ray diffraction, rheology, thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electronic microscopy were carried out to characterize the adhesives, and dry and wet strength was used to determine the adhesion strength. In the rheological measurement, the incorporation of up to 3 wt% of MMT did not modify the consistency index values of the SPC, while an increase in the flow consistency index for higher concentrations can be observed due to a strong interaction between MMT and the protein. Besides, the flow point values increase four times with respect to the value obtained for SPC alone. The decomposition temperature of SPC increases with the addition of MMT, which provides a tortuous pathway that obstructs the diffusion of volatile products out of the bio-nano-adhesive. Further addition beyond 5 wt% led to the formation of agglomerates, as verified by SEM. Moreover, the roughness of the fractured surface of the matrix can explain the decrease of the net adhesion of the nano-particles to the SPC suspensions.Fil: Bacigalupe, Alejandro.
