Levels of primaquine and carboxyprimaquine in patients with malaria vivax from the Brazilian Amazon basin

In the last two years, a substantial increase in the number of malaria vivax cases has occurred in the Brazilian Amazon basin. The adequate exposure of hypnozoites to primaquine is a matter of interest as these dormant forms are responsible for the maintenance or even the increase of malaria burden in endemic areas. The aim of this study was to estimate the levels of primaquine and carboxyprimaquine in whole blood samples of patients with P. vivax treated with chloroquine and an abbreviated regimen of primaquine (0.5 mg/kg/d for 7 days), with adequate clinical and parasitological outcomes after 180 days of follow-up . A total of 40 male patients met the criteria for inclusion in the study. Primaquine and carboxyprimaquine were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography. The levels of primaquine in whole blood samples ranged from 40-238 ng/mL, 42-196 ng/mL and 42-150 ng/mL on days 1, 3 and 7. The levels of carboxyprimaquine in whole blood samples ranged from 87-234 ng/mL, 96-252 ng/mL and 74-448 ng/mL on days 1, 3 and 7. These data provide a reliable estimation of exposure of the infecting parasite to primaquine. Based on the regional pattern of relapse, the estimated blood levels of primaquine can be considered effective against hypnozoites of the local circulating strains of P. vivax

Práxica de enfermagem em saúde coletiva: Vivência acadêmica na atenção primária à saúde

Resumo: Objetivou-se descrever as experiências obtidas por meio de ações extensionistas no âmbito da saúde materno-infantil, fundamentada na Teoria de Intervenção Práxica de Enfermagem em Saúde Coletiva. Trata-se de um relato de experiência realizado em uma unidade básica de saúde da região norte do Ceará. A implementação da teoria tornou viável a compreensão da realidade objetiva formadora daquele território, bem como a elaboração de um planejamento baseado nas subjetividades da população. Tais ações repercutiram diretamente na organização da unidade e proporcionaram a reativação do grupo de puericultura, a construção de conhecimentos por meio dos momentos de promoção e educação em saúde, assim como a contribuição para a formação dos acadêmicos de enfermagem, enquanto futuros profissionais. As experiências obtidas implicam diretamente na ressignificação das abordagens grupais, com destaque para o âmbito materno-infantil, como também estimulam a visão holística e o pensamento crítico por parte dos acadêmicos. This paper is an experience report carried out in a primary health unit in the northern region of Ceará (Brazil). The theory implementation made it possible to understand the objective reality that formed that territory, as well as to elaborate a plan based on the population’s subjectivities. Such actions had a direct impact on the organization of the unit. They provided the childcare group reactivation, knowledge building through moments of health promotion and education, and contribution to training nursing students as future professionals. The experiences obtained directly imply the redefinition of group approaches, emphasizing the maternal-child scope and the stimulation of a holistic view and critical thinking by nursing academics. Qualidade de vida de indivíduos com HIV: revisão integrativa / Quality of living of individuals with HIV integration review

 A qualidade de  vida de pacientes vivendo com HIV/AIDS é essencial, tendo em vista o caso específico dos adolescentes é ainda mais importante porque o jovem além de lidar com a resistência e a aceitação da doença, deve também enfrentar os conflitos da puberdade.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo realizar uma revisão integrativa em relação a qualidade de vida dos pacientes com HIV. Trata-se de um estudo de revisão integrativa realizado no período de 2016 a 2017, utilizando-se o banco de dados Medline e Lilacs. Apesar do impacto da infecção pelo HIV/AIDS na saúde psicológica e nas relações sociais dos indivíduos infectados, assim como no domínio físico, o uso da TARV provocou consequências positivas na saúde psicológica, proporcionando a desconstrução da ideia de morte advinda ao diagnóstico de portador do HIV/AIDS e a construção de melhores perspectivas de vida. A adesão ao tratamento em HIV/AIDS está relacionada a um aumento da sobrevida e de sua qualidade. Porém deve-se respeitar a posição pessoal do portador para fazer ou não o tratamento
