Analysis in weak systems

Get PDF
The authors survey and comment their work on weak analysis. They describe the basic set-up of analysis in a feasible second-order theory and consider the impact of adding to it various forms of weak Konig's lemma. A brief discussion of the Baire categoricity theorem follows. It is then considered a strengthening of feasibility obtained (fundamentally) by the addition of a counting axiom and showed how it is possible to develop Riemann integration in the stronger system. The paper finishes with three questions in weak analysis.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Quantum Geometry and Quantum Gravity

Get PDF
The purpose of this contribution is to give an introduction to quantum geometry and loop quantum gravity for a wide audience of both physicists and mathematicians. From a physical point of view the emphasis will be on conceptual issues concerning the relationship of the formalism with other more traditional approaches inspired in the treatment of the fundamental interactions in the standard model. Mathematically I will pay special attention to functional analytic issues, the construction of the relevant Hilbert spaces and the definition and properties of geometric operators: areas and volumes.Comment: To appear in the AIP Conference Proceedings of the XVI International Fall Workshop on Geometry and Physics, Lisbon - Portugal, 5-8 September 200

Contribuição para o estudo do bacalhau Gadus morhua

Mestrado em Biologia MarinhaTraceability is one of the most used tools to control fish origin and can contribute to improve product quality and safety. However, until now the methods used to identify the fish origin and its chemical and biological characteristics involve the loss of commercial value of the fish sampled. It should be noticed also that all these methods are too time-consuming and have expensive costs for the manufacturing industry. This work was performed based on the real needs of the manufacturing and drying industry of codfish and in a perspective of developing an efficient and inexpensive method for traceability analysis of dry salted codfish species using a PCR-DGGE approach.

Interacting and making personalized recommendations of places of interest to tourists

Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing, 353Nowadays, applications that are developed to support tourists should go much further than simply providing information about places or recommending places or routes based on the user location. They should be able to provide users with simple mechanisms to interact with places of interest and provide them with relevant information and recommendations about new relevant places of interest or tours according to their preferences and the preferences of other tourists with similar interests. In this work we describe a system that explores information about tourists’ interactions with places of interest and their opinions about each place, to recommend new places of interest, pedestrian tours and to promote products and services which are in accordance with their expectations. First experiments show that the system can help the tourists to interact with places of interest, helping them in their visits and also to promote shops and services

Rehabilitation doxa and practitioner judgment. An analysis of symbolic violence on health care provision in the Scottish prison system

This paper presents an analysis of the symbolic conditions which govern health care provision in the Scottish prison system. The paper considers the wider context of Scottish prisons, where health care provision follows a similar structure both in juvenile and adult prisons. Our intention is to provoke a debate about the doxa (Bourdieu, 1977), which underlies decision making in respect of health care in prison, in a political environment where pragmatism, allied to the ‘pathologisation’ of social policies, health and criminal justice has been a hegemonic force.<br/
