    Optimization of a low weight electronic differential for LEVs

    It is presented a performance analysis of an Electronic Differential (ED) system designed for Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs). We have developed a test tricycle vehicle with one front steering wheel and two rear fixed units is a same axis with a brushless DC integrated in each of them. Each motor has an independent controller unit and a common Arduino electronic CPU based that can plan specific speeds for each wheels as curves are being traced. Different implementations of sensors (input current/torque, steering angle and speed of the wheels) are discussed related to hardware complexity, and performance obtained based on speed level requirements and slipping on the traction wheels.Universidad de Málaga.     Hobbes y Gracián el estado de naturaleza en el Leviatán y en el Criticón

    [Resumen] De todas las exitosas metáforas que Hobbes creó, el llamado «estado de naturaleza» puede ser considerada una de las de mayor alcance. Lexicalizada por un uso prolongado y reiterativo, esta metáfora ha devenido el modo propio y directo de hablar de situaciones de desgobierno y caos social. En este artículo intentaremos llevar a cabo una genealogía del concepto hobbesiano que ponga en evidencia lo no dicho: el rostro que se esconde tras la máscara de la metáfora. Y, para desenmascarar, descifrar e interpretar correctamente el estado de naturaleza hobbesiano nos valdremos de su contraste con similares formulaciones vertidas por Gracián. Como toda metáfora, el «estado de naturaleza» es, también, símbolo de otra cosa, algo que, en este caso, está ahí fuera y no en la lengua. En busca de lo simbolizado nos encaminamos con el auxilio del aragonés, pues él dio cuenta de esta metáfora, sin conocerla siquiera, exponiendo las consecuencias de un hipotético estado presocial como el que plantea el inglés. Aún más, Gracián nos mostrará el «estado de naturaleza» dentro [no fuera, como Hobbes pretende] de la sociedad barroca por la que transitan los dos peregrinos de la vida que protagonizan El Criticón.[Sommaire] De toutes les métaphores heureuses que Hobbes a créées, la dénommée «état de nature», peut être considéré comme l’une de celles qui ont la plus grande portée. Lexicalisée par un usage prolongé et réitératif, cette métaphore est devenue la manière propre et directe de parler des situations de mauvaise gouvernement et de chaos social. Dans cet article nous essaierons de réaliser une généalogie du concept de Hobbes qui met en évidence le non-dit: le visage qui se cache derrière le masque de la métaphore. Ainsi, pour démasquer, pour déchiffrer et pour interpréter correctement l’état de nature hobbesien, nous nous servirons de son contraste avec des formulations similaires de Gracián. Comme toute métaphore, l’«état de nature» est aussi le symbole d’une autre chose; quelque chose qui, dans ce cas, est ailleurs que dans la langue. Dans la recherche du symbolisé, nous empruntons le secours de l’auteur aragonais, puisque celui-ci rendit compte de cette métaphore, sans même la connaître, en exposant les conséquences d’un hypothétique état présocial comme celui de l’auteur anglais. En outre, Gracián nous montrera l’«état de nature» à l’intérieur (et non à l’extérieur comme le prétend Hobbes) de la société baroque par laquelle passent les deux pèlerins de la vie dans le Criticon.[Abstract] From all successful metaphors which Hobbes created, the so-called ‘state of nature’ can be considered one of the widest scopes. Lexicalized by an extended and reiterative use, this metaphor has become in the appropriate and direct way of referring to situations of misgovernment and social chaos. In this article we will attempt to accomplish the genealogy of the Hobbesian concept which prove what is not being said, what is omitted, the face which is hidden behind the mask of metaphor. And, in order to unmask, decipher and interpret correctly the Hobbesian state of nature we will make use of its contrast with similar formulations voiced by Gracián. As every metaphor, the ‘state of nature’ is also a symbol of another thing, something which, in this case, is out there and not in language. In search of what is symbolized we head towards, assisted by the Aragonese, since he revealed this metaphor, without even knowing it, stating the consequences of an hypothetical pre-social state as the one which is proposed by the English. Even more, Gracián will show us the ‘state of nature’ within [not outside, as Hobbes is expecting] the baroque society through which both pilgrims of life drift, those two who are the main characters of El Criticón

    Smart-Cities urban mobility management architecture for electric vehicles

TICS can help to soften one of their main limitations –autonomy– planning efficient driving strategies. This paper evaluates the physical variables that have an impact on the EV consumption and presents an electronic architecture to monitor them in an Experimental Ultralight Electric Vehicle.     Photovoltaic charging multi-station with modular architecture for Light Electric Vehicles

    This paper deals with a modular architecture for recharging the batteries of light electric vehicles (LEVs) using a photovoltaic (PV) generator. The architecture is divided into two hierarchical levels. At the top level (master), a microcontroller tracks the maximum power point of the PV generator. This microcontroller executes a PID control algorithm whose output is the setpoint of the microcontrollers of the lower level. At the lower level (slaves) there is a microcontroller for each vehicle charging station. Each microcontroller controls the recharge current of the vehicle battery connected to the station by executing another PID control algorithm. The modular architecture allows the number of charging stations to be extended to 112. Other characteristics of the system are the automatic detection of the nominal voltage of the battery (it allows to recharge batteries of 24V, 36V or 48V, equally) and the inclusion of protection functions as battery overload or detection of not allowed batteriesUniversidad de Málaga.     A theoretical insight into the catalytic effect of a mixed-metal oxide at the nanometer level: The case of the highly active metal/CeOx/TiO2(110) catalysts

    The structural and electronic properties of CeOx species supported on the rutile TiO2 110 surface have been examined by means of periodic density-functional calculations that use a generalized gradient approximation functional including a Hubbard-like type correction. Deposition of Ce atoms leads in a first step to Ce3+ ions bound to the surface through bridge and in-plane oxygen atoms, the released electrons occupying the Ti 3d empty orbitals. Further addition of Ce and molecular oxygen gives place to Ce2O3 dimers diagonally arranged on the surface, in agreement with the spots observed in the scanning tunnel microscope images. The formation process of CeOx nanoparticles NPs on the TiO2 surface is highly exothermic and our calculations show that the redox properties of the Ce III-Ce IV couple are significantly altered when it is supported on TiO2. In particular the reactivity against CO/O2 indicates that on the surface the presence of Ce III is favored over Ce IV species. Our results also indicate that the CeOx /TiO2 interface should be seen like a real mixed-metal oxide rather than a supported NP of ceria. Finally, in the context of the high catalytic activity of the M /CeOx /TiO2 M =Au,Cu,Pt systems in the water-gas shift reaction, we have examined the dissociation of water on the CeOx /TiO2 surface and estimated a barrier as small as 0.04 eV, i.e. 8 times smaller than that computed for a TiO2 oxygen vacancy. This result agrees with the experimental superior catalytic activity of the M /CeOx /TiO2 systems over M /TiO2.Gobierno de España.     Number conserving particle-hole RPA for superfluid nuclei

The method derives from an RPA theory developed long ago in quantum chemistry using antisymmetric geminal powers, or equivalently number projected HFB states, as reference states. We show within a minimal model of pairing plus monopole interactions that the number conserving particle-hole RPA excitations evolve smoothly across the superfluid phase transition close to the exact results, contrary to particle-hole RPA in the normal phase and quasiparticle RPA in the superfluid phase that require a change of basis at the broken symmetry point.     Connection between decoherence and excited state quantum phase transitions

    In this work we explore the relationship between an excited state quantum phase transition (ESQPT) and the phenomenon of quantum decoherence. For this purpose, we study how the decoherence is affected by the presence of a continuous ESQPT in the environment. This one is modeled as a two level boson system described by a Lipkin Hamiltonian. We will show that the decoherence of the system is maximal when the environment undergoes a continuous ESQPT

    Open Source Virtual Worlds and Low Cost Sensors for Physical Rehab of Patients with Chronic Diseases

    For patients with chronic diseases, exercise is a key part of rehab to deal better with their illness. Some of them do rehabilitation at home with telemedicine systems. However, keeping to their exercising program is challenging and many abandon the rehabilitation. We postulate that information technologies for socializing and serious games can encourage patients to keep doing physical exercise and rehab. In this paper we present Virtual Valley, a low cost telemedicine system for home exercising, based on open source virtual worlds and utilizing popular low cost motion controllers (e.g. Wii Remote) and medical sensors.     SWATH Differential Abundance Proteomics and Cellular Assays Show In Vitro Anticancer Activity of Arachidonic Acid- and Docosahexaenoic Acid-Based Monoacylglycerols in HT-29 Colorectal Cancer Cells

    Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common and mortal types of cancer. There is increasing evidence that some polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) exercise specific inhibitory actions on cancer cells through different mechanisms, as a previous study on CRC cells demonstrated for two very long-chain PUFA. These were docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n3) and arachidonic acid (ARA, 20:4n6) in the free fatty acid (FFA) form. In this work, similar design and technology have been used to investigate the actions of both DHA and ARA as monoacylglycerol (MAG) molecules, and results have been compared with those obtained using the corresponding FFA. Cell assays revealed that ARA- and DHA-MAG exercised dose- and time-dependent antiproliferative actions, with DHA-MAG acting on cancer cells more efficiently than ARA-MAG. Sequential window acquisition of all theoretical mass spectra (SWATH)—mass spectrometry massive quantitative proteomics, validated by parallel reaction monitoring and followed by pathway analysis, revealed that DHA-MAG had a massive effect in the proteasome complex, while the ARA-MAG main effect was related to DNA replication. Prostaglandin synthesis also resulted as inhibited by DHA-MAG. Results clearly demonstrated the ability of both ARA- and DHA-MAG to induce cell death in colon cancer cells, which suggests a direct relationship between chemical structure and antitumoral actions
