Burr detection and classification using RUSTICO and image processing

    Get PDF
.Machined workpieces must satisfy quality standards such as avoid the presence of burrs in edge finishing to reduce production costs and time. In this work we consider three types of burr that are determined by the distribution of the edge shape on a microscopic scale: knife-type (without imperfections), saw-type (presence of small splinters that could be accepted) and burr-breakage (substantial deformation that produces unusable workpieces). The proposed method includes RUSTICO to classify automatically the edge of each piece according to its burr type. Experimental results validate its effectiveness, yielding a 91.2% F1-Score and identifying completely the burr-breakage type.S

First, we study the sequences of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials with respect to such an inner product. Second, their representations in terms of a sequence of Gegenbauer polynomials are deduced as well as an algorithm to generate them in a recursive way is stated. The outer relative asymptotics between the Sobolev orthogonal polynomials and classical Legendre polynomials is obtained. Next we analyze the solution of the boundary value problem in terms of a Fourier-Sobolev projector. Finally, we provide numerical tests concerning the reliability and accuracy of the Sobolev spectral method.FEDER/Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación-Agencia Estatal de Investigación of Spain PID2021-122154NB-I00Madrid Government EPUC3M23Consejería de Universidad, Investigación e Innovación FQM-246-UGR20European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTRMCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033: CEX2020-001105-MUniversidad Carlos III de Madrid CRUE-Madroño 202

Academic Success Assessment through Version Control Systems

    Get PDF
[EN] Version control systems’ usage is a highly demanded skill in information and communication technology professionals. Thus, their usage should be encouraged by educational institutions. This work demonstrates that it is possible to assess if a student can pass a computer science-related subject by monitoring its interaction with a version control system. This paper proposes a methodology that compares the performance of several machine learning models so as to select the appropriate predicting model for the assessment of the students’ achievements. To fit predicting models, three subjects of the Degree in Computer Science at the University of León are considered to obtain the dataset: computer organization, computer programming, and operating systems extension. The common aspect of these subjects is their assignments, which are based on developing one or several programs with programming languages such as C or Java. To monitor the practical assignments and individual performance, a Git repository is employed allowing students to store source code, documentation, and supporting control versions. According to the presented experience, there is a huge correlation between the level of interaction for each student and the achieved grades.SIUniversidad de León (Support Plan for Teaching Innovation Groups (PAGID))European Commission ( Grant 2018-1-ES01-KA201-050939: ROBOSTEAM–Integrating Steam and Computational Thinking development by using Robotics and Physical Devices

Tunable interlayer hydrophobicity in a nanostructured high charge organo-mica

    Get PDF
A tunable hydrophobicity, from a fully hydrophobic medium to an amphiphilic quasi-solution, has been obtained in the interlayer space of a synthetic high charged mica by ion exchange reaction with amine cations. The structural and intercalation properties of the hybrids after the exchange with the n-alkylammonium cations: [RNH3]+, [RNH(CH3)2]+ and [RN(CH3]3+ with C16 alkyl chain length have been determined by termogravimetric/differential scanning calorimetry analysis (TGA-DSC) and mass spectrometry (MS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has been used as a complementary technique to provide new insights into the morphology of the exchanged products. Coverage and cation distribution have been correlated with layer charge and steric effects. Thus, a full organo-clay is obtained when the primary amine cations are adsorbed between the layers. However, a homogenous single phase of mixed organic/inorganic cations is formed in the same interlayer with the tertiary amine cations. Mixed ion clays combining both exchangeable inorganic and adsorbent organic ions in their interlayer space can be potential materials to be used as adsorbents for water decontamination, independently of the hydrophilic/hydrophobic nature of the pollutants. For the quaternary amine cations steric effects preclude the coexistence of both organic and inorganic species in the same interlayer of the clay so phase segregation together with a heterogeneous phase of organic and inorganic galleries in the same particle can be observed.Funding from the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, under project MAT2015-63929-R is also acknowledged. Estimation of lamb weight using transfer learning and regression

    Get PDF
Meat production needs of accurate measurement of livestock weight. In lambs, traditional scales are still used to weigh live animals, which is a tedious process for the operators and stressful for the animal. In this paper, we propose a method to estimate the weight of live lambs automatically, fast, non-invasive and affordably. The system only requires a camera like those that can be found in mobile phones. Our approach is based on the use of a known Convolutional Neural Network architecture (Xception) pre-trained on the ImageNet dataset. The acquired knowledge during training is used to estimate the weight, which is known as transfer learning. The best results are achieved with a model that receives the image, the sex of the lamb and the height from where the image is taken. A mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.58 kg and an R2 of 0.96 were obtained, improving on current techniques. Only one image and two values specified by the user (sex and height) allow to estimate with a minimum error the optimal weight of a lamb, maximising the economic profit

Effect of temperature and reaction time of the synthesis of nanocrystalline brucite

    Get PDF
Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles has been successfully synthesized by means of the hydrothermal method. The effect of the reaction time and the synthesis temperature on the nanoparticles obtained has also been studied. The physic-chemical properties of the synthesized brucite samples have been characterized by X-Ray-diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-rays analysis (SEM/EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), thermogravimetry/ differential scanning Calorimetry (TG-DSC) and in situ high-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD). The influence of the synthesis parameters in the brucite samples has been discussed in detail. Furthermore, it has been shown that the increase of temperature from 180 to 200ºC improves the crystallinity degree of Mg(OH)2 nanostructured particles and also, promotes the formation of plates with bigger uniform size. As well, the increase in the time reaction induces the formation of bigger size brucite plates. So, this hydrothermal method has been shown to be a really promising method for the large scale production.Peer Reviewe

Biomarkers in ocular chronic graft versus host disease: tear cytokine- and chemokine-based predictive model.

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaPurpose: To develop a tear molecule level-based predictive model based on a panel of tear cytokines and their correlation with clinical features in ocular chronic graft versus host disease (cGVHD). Methods: Twenty-two ocular cGVHD patients and 21 healthy subjects were evaluated in a controlled environmental research laboratory (CERLab). Clinical parameters were recorded, and tears were collected. Levels of 15 molecules (epidermal growth factor [EGF], IL receptor antagonist [IL-1Ra], IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8/CXCL8, IL-10, IL-12p70, IL-17A, interferon inducible protein [IP]-10/CXCL10, IFN-γ, VEGF, TNF-α, eotaxin 1, and regulated on activation normal T cell expressed and secreted [RANTES]) were measured by multiplex-bead assay and correlated with clinical parameters. Logistic regression was used to develop a predictive model. Leave-one-out cross-validation was applied. Classification capacity was evaluated in a cohort of individuals with dry eye (DE) of other etiologies different from GVHD. Results: Epidermal growth factor and IP-10/CXCL10 levels were significantly decreased in ocular cGVHD, positively correlating with tear production and stability and negatively correlating with symptoms, hyperemia, and vital staining. Interleukin-1Ra, IL-8/CXCL8, and IL-10 were significantly increased in ocular cGVHD, and the first two correlated positively with symptoms, hyperemia, and ocular surface integrity while negatively correlating with tear production and stability. Predictive models were generated, and the best panel was based on IL-8/CXCL8 and IP-10/CXCL10 tear levels along with age and sex, with an area under the receiving operating curve of 0.9004, sensitivity of 86.36%, and specificity of 95.24%. Conclusions: A predictive model based on tear levels of IL-8/CXCL8 and IP-10/CXCL10 resulted in optimal sensitivity and specificity. These results add further knowledge to the search for potential biomarkers in this devastating ocular inflammatory disease.Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Madrid, Spain, SAF-2010 15631 (AES)

Design and Implementation of a Stereo Vision System on an Innovative 6DOF Single-Edge Machining Device for Tool Tip Localization and Path Correction

    Get PDF
[EN] In the current meso cutting technology industry, the demand for more advanced, accurate and cheaper devices capable of creating a wide range surfaces and geometries is rising. To fulfill this demand, an alternative single point cutting device with 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) was developed. Its main advantage compared to milling has been the need for simpler cutting tools that require an easier development. To obtain accurate and precise geometries, the tool tip must be monitored to compensate its position and make the proper corrections on the computer numerical control (CNC). For this, a stereo vision system was carried out as a different approach to the modern available technologies in the industry. In this paper, the artificial intelligence technologies required for implementing such vision system are explored and discussed. The vision system was compared with commercial measurement software Dino Capture, and a dedicated metrological microscope system TESA V-200GL. Experimental analysis were carried out and results were measured in terms of accuracy. The proposed vision system yielded an error equal to ±3 µm in the measurement.SIMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad (DPI2016-79960-C3-1-P)Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (DPI2016-79960-C3-2-P)National Council on Science and Technology (CONACyT) ( CVU-482229 (México))SENESCYT ( No 223-2012 (Ecuador)
