Elemental and SrâNdâPb isotope geochemistry of the Cenozoic basalts in Southeast China : insights into their mantle sources and melting processes.
We analyzed whole-rock major and trace elements and SrâNdâPb isotopes of the Cenozoic basalts in Southeast China to investigate their mantle source characteristics and melting process. These basalts are spatially associated with three extensional fault systems parallel to the coast line. After correction for the effect of olivine microlites on bulk-rock compositions and the effect of crystal fractionation, we obtained primitive melt compositions for these samples. These primitive melts show increasing SiO2, Al2O3 but decreasing FeO, MgO, TiO2, P2O5, CaO and CaO/Al2O3 from the interior to the coast. Such spatial variations of major element abundances and ratios are consistent with a combined effect of fertile source compositional variation and increasing extent and decreasing pressure of decompression melting from beneath the thick lithosphere in the interior to beneath the thin lithosphere in the coast.
These basalts are characterized by incompatible element enrichment but varying extent of isotopic depletion. This element-isotope decoupling is most consistent with recent mantle source enrichment by means of low-degree melt metasomatism that elevated incompatible element abundances without yet having adequate time for isotopic ingrowth in the mantle source regions. Furthermore, Sr and Nd isotope ratios show significant correlations with Nb/Th, Nb/La, Sr/Srâ and Eu/Euâ, which substantiates the presence of recycled upper continental crustal material in the mantle sources of these basalts.
Pb isotope ratios also exhibit spatial variation, increasing from the interior to the coastal area. The significant correlations of major element abundances with Pb isotope ratios indicate that the Pb isotope variations also result from varied extent and pressure of decompression melting. We conclude that the elevated Pb isotope ratios from the interior to coast are consistent with increasing extent of decompression melting of the incompatible element depleted mantle matrix, which hosts enriched Pb isotope compositions
Rms-flux relation of Cyg X-1 with RXTE: dipping and nondipping cases
The rms (root mean square) variability is the parameter for understanding the
emission temporal properties of X-ray binaries (XRBs) and active galactic
nuclei (AGN).
The rms-flux relation with Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) data for the
dips and nondip of black hole Cyg X-1 has been investigated in this paper. Our
results show that there exist the linear rms-flux relations in the frequency
range 0.1-10 Hz for the dipping light curve. Moreover, this linear relation
still remains during the nondip regime, but with the steeper slope than that of
the dipping case in the low energy band. For the high energy band, the slopes
of the dipping and nondipping cases are hardly constant within errors. The
explanations of the results have been made by means of the ``Propagating

The ARGO-YBJ Experiment Progresses and Future Extension
Gamma ray source detection above 30TeV is an encouraging approach for finding
galactic cosmic ray origins. All sky survey for gamma ray sources using wide
field of view detector is essential for population accumulation for various
types of sources above 100GeV. To target the goals, the ARGO-YBJ experiment has
been established. Significant progresses have been made in the experiment. A
large air shower detector array in an area of 1km2 is proposed to boost the
sensitivity. Hybrid detection with multi-techniques will allow a good
discrimination between different types of primary particles, including photons
and protons, thus enable an energy spectrum measurement for individual specie.
Fluorescence light detector array will extend the spectrum measurement above
100PeV where the second knee is located. An energy scale determined by balloon
experiments at 10TeV will be propagated to ultra high energy cosmic ray
experiments
Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadrons containing at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for
, , ,
and at the three energy
points. Based on these cross sections we set the upper limits on the observed
cross sections and the branching fractions for decay into these

studied. The invariant mass distribution exhibits a near-threshold
enhancement that peaks around 2.24 GeV/.

GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider, we directly measure the
branching fractions for the neutral and charged inclusive semimuonic decays
to be and , and determine the ratio of the two branching
fractions to be
A study of charged kappa in
Based on events collected by BESII, the decay
is studied. In the invariant mass
spectrum recoiling against the charged , the charged
particle is found as a low mass enhancement. If a Breit-Wigner function of
constant width is used to parameterize the kappa, its pole locates at MeV/. Also in this channel,
the decay is observed for the first time.

searched for using a sample of 5.8 events collected with
the BESII detector. Zero and one candidate events, consistent with the

contribution peaks strongly near threshold. It is fitted with a
broad resonance with mass MeV, width MeV. A broad resonance peaking at 2020 MeV is also required

ARGO-YBJ constraints on very high energy emission from GRBs
The ARGO-YBJ (Astrophysical Radiation Ground-based Observatory at YangBaJing)
experiment is designed for very high energy -astronomy and cosmic ray
researches. Due to the full coverage of a large area () with
resistive plate chambers at a very high altitude (4300 m a.s.l.), the ARGO-YBJ
detector is used to search for transient phenomena, such as Gamma-ray bursts
(GRBs). Because the ARGO-YBJ detector has a large field of view (2 sr)
and is operated with a high duty cycle (90%), it is well suited for GRB
surveying and can be operated in searches for high energy GRBs following alarms
set by satellite-borne observations at lower energies. In this paper, the
sensitivity of the ARGO-YBJ detector for GRB detection is estimated. Upper
limits to fluence with 99% confidence level for 26 GRBs inside the field of
view from June 2006 to January 2009 are set in the two energy ranges 10100
