    On the Regularized Fermionic Projector of the Vacuum

    We construct families of fermionic projectors with spherically symmetric regularization, which satisfy the condition of a distributional MP{\mathcal{M}} P-product. The method is to analyze regularization tails with a power-law or logarithmic scaling in composite expressions in the fermionic projector. The resulting regularizations break the Lorentz symmetry and give rise to a multi-layer structure of the fermionic projector near the light cone.     Generalized μ−τ\mu-\tau reflection symmetry and leptonic CP violation

    We propose a generalized μ−τ\mu-\tau reflection symmetry to constrain the lepton flavor mixing parameters. We obtain a new correlation between the atmospheric mixing angle θ23\theta_{23} and the "Dirac" CP violation phase δCP\delta_{\rm CP}. Only in a specific limit our proposed CP transformation reduces to standard μ−τ\mu-\tau reflection, for which θ23\theta_{23} and δCP\delta_{CP} are both maximal. The "Majorana" phases are predicted to lie at their CP-conserving values with important implications for the neutrinoless double beta decay rates. We also study the phenomenological implications of our scheme for present and future neutrino oscillation experiments including T2K, NOν\nuA and DUNE.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures, latex, Final version to appear in Physics Letters

    Analysis of dependence among size, rate and duration in internet flows

    In this paper we examine rigorously the evidence for dependence among data size, transfer rate and duration in Internet flows. We emphasize two statistical approaches for studying dependence, including Pearson's correlation coefficient and the extremal dependence analysis method. We apply these methods to large data sets of packet traces from three networks. Our major results show that Pearson's correlation coefficients between size and duration are much smaller than one might expect. We also find that correlation coefficients between size and rate are generally small and can be strongly affected by applying thresholds to size or duration. Based on Transmission Control Protocol connection startup mechanisms, we argue that thresholds on size should be more useful than thresholds on duration in the analysis of correlations.     It is shown analytically that the Dirac equation has no normalizable, time-periodic solutions in a Reissner-Nordstrom black hole background; in particular, there are no static solutions of the Dirac equation in such a background field.     Low-field microwave absorption and magnetoresistance in iron nanostructures grown by electrodeposition on n-type lightly-doped silicon substrates

    In this study we investigate magnetic properties, surface morphology and crystal structure in iron nanoclusters electrodeposited on lightly-doped (100) n-type silicon substrates. Our goal is to investigate the spin injection and detection in the Fe/Si lateral structures. The samples obtained under electric percolation were characterized by magnetoresistive and magnetic resonance measurements with cycling the sweeping applied field in order to understand the spin dynamics in the as-produced samples. The observed hysteresis in the magnetic resonance spectra, plus the presence of a broad peak in the non-saturated regime confirming the low field microwave absorption (LFMA), were correlated to the peaks and slopes found in the magnetoresistance curves. The results suggest long range spin injection and detection in low resistive silicon and the magnetic resonance technique is herein introduced as a promising tool for analysis of electric contactless magnetoresistive samples.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure

    A number of factors affects the effectiveness of whistleblowing system, such as the whistleblower, the wrongdoer, and other relevant parties. However, whistleblowing literature, so far, seems to attend more on whistleblowers' perspectives. Little is known about aspects from recipient perspectives, especially the effect of psychological biases that can seriously damage the effectiveness of the system. This study extend the whistleblowing literature by experimentally investigating how the fraud type and anonymity influence the recipient decision making process. The results show that internal auditor (as recipient) has lower probability to respond to fraudulent earning management allegation than to that of asset misappropriation. In regard to the anonymity effect, this research is consistent with prior studies in that anonymity provides less credible information for fraud allegation. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the importance of type of fraud as contextual factor that determine the whistleblowing effectiveness from recipient perspectives
