Space VLBI at Low Frequencies

At sufficiently low frequencies, no ground-based radio array will be able to
produce high resolution images while looking through the ionosphere. A
space-based array will be needed to explore the objects and processes which
dominate the sky at the lowest radio frequencies. An imaging radio
interferometer based on a large number of small, inexpensive satellites would
be able to track solar radio bursts associated with coronal mass ejections out
to the distance of Earth, determine the frequency and duration of early epochs
of nonthermal activity in galaxies, and provide unique information about the
interstellar medium. This would be a "space-space" VLBI mission, as only
baselines between satellites would be used. Angular resolution would be limited

This paper describes the design and construction of the MicroBooNE liquid
argon time projection chamber and associated systems. MicroBooNE is the first
phase of the Short Baseline Neutrino program, located at Fermilab, and will
utilize the capabilities of liquid argon detectors to examine a rich assortment
of physics topics. In this document details of design specifications, assembly
procedures, and acceptance tests are reported

As innate immune system components, natural killer (NK) cells respond rapidly to infections and effectively control replication of pathogens, including murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV), a double-stranded DNA beta-herpesvirus. In the absence of NK cell control, MCMV infection results in early mortality due to uncontrolled viral replication. However, here we show that even in the face of initial NK cell control, there is late recrudescence of disease and mortality in immunodeficient mice due to the outgrowth of MCMV mutants that escape recognition by innate NK cells. These data suggest that viral infections in certain clinical settings also may be due to viral escape from innate immunity

For more than half a century, researchers around the world have been engaged in attempts to achieve fusion ignition as a proof of principle of various fusion concepts. Following the Lawson criterion, an ignited plasma is one where the fusion heating power is high enough to overcome all the physical processes that cool the fusion plasma, creating a positive thermodynamic feedback loop with rapidly increasing temperature. In inertially confined fusion, ignition is a state where the fusion plasma can begin "burn propagation" into surrounding cold fuel, enabling the possibility of high energy gain. While "scientific breakeven" (i.e., unity target gain) has not yet been achieved (here target gain is 0.72, 1.37 MJ of fusion for 1.92 MJ of laser energy), this Letter reports the first controlled fusion experiment, using laser indirect drive, on the National Ignition Facility to produce capsule gain (here 5.8) and reach ignition by nine different formulations of the Lawson criterion
