Modeling Usage of Medical Care Services: The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Data, 1996-2000

We explore the determinants of usage of six different types of health careservices, using the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey data, years 1996-2000.We apply a number of models for univariate count data, including semiparametric, semi-nonparametric and finite mixture models.We find that the complexity of the model that is required to fit the datawell depends upon the way in which the data is pooled across sexes andover time, and upon the characteristics of the usage measure.Pooling across time and sexes is almost always favored, but when more heterogeneous data is pooled it is often the case that a more complex statisticalmodel is required.medical care; count data; maximum likelihood

The black-white test score gap widens with age?

Abstract We re-examine the theoretical concept of a production function for cognitive achievement, and argue that an indirect production function that depends upon the variables that constrain parents' choices is both more tractable from an econometric point of view, and more interesting from an economic point of view than is a direct production function that depends upon a detailed list of direct inputs such as number of books in the household. We estimate flexible econometric models of indirect production functions for two achievement measures from the Woodcock-Johnson Revised battery, using data from two waves of the Child Development Supplement to the PSID. Elasticities of achievement measures with respect to family income and parents' educational levels are positive and significant. Gaps between scores of black and white children narrow or remain constant as children grow older, a result that differs from previous findings in the literature. The elasticities of achievement scores with respect to family income are substantially higher for children of black families, and there are some notable difference in elasticities with respect to parents' educational levels across blacks and whites.education; cognitive achievement; test score gaps

Amb una baixa inversió inicial, mitjançant operacions mínimes de fàcil construcció, es fa que s’activi i es millori el barri. Per exemple, amb estructures de lloguer temporal que permeten la prova-error, programes que tinguin un retorn econòmic, o elements prefabricats i de fàcil muntatge. PERSEPSI SISWA TERHADAP MEDIA TELEVISI SEBAGAI MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM (PAI) (Studi Kasus di SMAN 8 Bogor)

Da'wah is an activity that is timeless and applies throughout the ages. Da'wah also has many forms and ways, one of which is using television media. The Islamic da'wah program that airs on several Indonesian television stations can also be regarded as an Islamic religious education program on television. Because, audio-visual media can function as a medium for learning Islamic Religious Education. Learning media is an important factor in improving the quality of learning. This is due to the development of technology in the field of education that demands efficiency and effectiveness in learning. However, the results of learning using this media also depend on students' assessments and perceptions about learning Islam using television. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by taking the resource person, namely one teacher who teaches Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and 7 students of class X and XI at SMAN 8 Bogor, the data obtained is processed using investigator triangulation analysis technique and source triangulation by comparing the results of interviews. to teachers and respondents, as well as test results. The results showed that the perception of students at SMAN 8 Bogor on PAI learning through television media, namely the Damai Indonesiaku program on TV One, was included in the medium category or 42.86%, the majority of students at SMAN 8 Bogor stated their agreement on the effectiveness of PAI learning by using television media. especially in the Damai Indonesiaku program on TV-One, although there were obstacles during the learning process with television media.Keywords: Television Media, Learning, Islamic Religious Education, Perception ABSTRAKDakwah adalah sebuah kegiatan yang tak terbatas waktu dan berlaku sepanjang zaman. Dakwah juga memiliki banyak sekali bentuk dan cara, salah satunya menggunakan media televisi. Acara dakwah Islam yang tayang di beberapa stasiun televisi Indonesia juga dapat dikatakan sebagai acara pendidikan agama Islam di televisi. Karena, media audio visual dapat berfungsi sebagai media pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam. Media pembelajaran merupakan salah faktor penting dalam peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran. Hal tersebut disebabkan adanya perkembangan teknologi dalam bidang pendidikan yang menuntut efisiensi dan efektivitas dalam pembelajaran. Walau demikian, hasil pembelajaran menggunakan media ini hasilnya juga bergantung pada penilaian dan persepsi siswa tentang pembelajaran Agama Islam menggunakan televisi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan mengambil narasumber yaitu satu orang guru pengampu pelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) dan 7 siswa kelas X dan XI di SMAN 8 Bogor, data yang diperoleh diolah dengan menggunakan teknik analisis triangulasi penyelidik dan triangulasi sumber dengan membandingkan hasil wawancara kepada guru dan responden, serta hasil test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi siswa SMAN 8 Bogor pada pembelajaran PAI melalui media televisi yaitu acara Damai Indonesiaku di TV One termasuk dalam kategori sedang atau 42,86%, mayoritas siswa-siswi di SMAN 8 Bogor menyatakan persetujuannya terhadap efektifitas pembelajaran PAI dengan menggunakan media televisi khususnya dalam acara Damai Indonesiaku di TV-One, meskipun ditemukan  kendala-kendala saat pembelajaran dengan media televisi ini berlangsung

Perancangan Sistem E-Office Kantor Wali Nagari Sungai Buluh Selatan

Kantor Wali Nagari Sungai Buluh Selatan merupakan kantor Wali Nagari yang terletak di daerah Kecamatan Batang Anai, Kabupaten Padang Pariaman, Provinsi Sumatera Barat. Kantor Wali Nagari ini bergerak pada bidang pelayanan penduduk dalam pembuatan surat menyurat, seperti : surat DUKCAPIL, surat pernyataan, surat domisili, dan surat keterangan  sesuai dengan keinginan warga, seiring berjalannya perkembangan jaman Kantor Wali Nagari Sungai Buluh Selatan mencetak surat dan melakukan pendataan penduduk dalam skala besar, sehingga menghambat dan menyulitkan proses perekapan surat serta nomor kop surat dan pendataan penduduk yang masih direkap secara manual. Sehingga membuat pegawai kantor Wali Nagari sulit untuk mencari nomor kop surat yang akan digunakan karena jumlah surat yang juga terhitung sangat banyak. Proses pembuatan surat juga masih menggunakan Microsoft Word, meskipun sudah menggunakan teknologi komputer tetapi itu masih membuat pegawai sulit dikarenakan harus mengetikan isi surat tersebut secara manual. Proses pelaporan operasional tahunan maupun bulanan juga masih dilakukan secara manual. Sehingga pegawai Nagari harus merekap dan menghitung jumlah surat yang masuk maupun keluar. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan sebuah sistem informasi administrasi E-Office Wali Nagari Sungai Buluh Selatan yang dapat membantu merekap semua nomor surat dan mencetak dokumen administrasi serta sebuah fitur pelaporan yang lengkap sehingga memudahkan kinerja dari kantor Nagari tersebut sendiri
