    Semi-Parametric Inference for the Partial Area Under the ROC Curve

    Diagnostic tests are central in the field of modern medicine. One of the main factors for interpreting a diagnostic test is the discriminatory accuracy. For a continuous-scale diagnostic test, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, AUC, is a useful one-number summary index for the diagnostic accuracy of the test. When only a particular region of the ROC curve would be of interest, the partial AUC (pAUC) is a more appropriate index for the diagnostic accuracy. In this thesis, we develop seven confidence intervals for the pAUC under the semi-parametric models for the diseased and non-diseased populations by using the normal approximation, bootstrap and empirical likelihood methods. In addition, we conduct simulation studies to compare the finite sample performance of the proposed confidence intervals for the pAUC. A real example is also used to illustrate the application of the recommended intervals

    Surface morphology and mechanical properties of conventional and selfadhesive resin cements after aqueous aging

    The stable long-term performance of resin cement under oral environmental conditions is a crucial factor to obtain a satisfactory success of the allceramic dental restoration. Objective: This study aimed at evaluating and comparing the surface morphology and mechanical property of conventional and self-adhesive resin cement after aqueous aging. Materials and Methods: Disc-shaped specimens of 3 conventional (C1: Multilink N, C2: Duolink, C3: Nexus 3) and 3 self-adhesive (S1: Multilink Speed, S2: Biscem, S3: Maxcem) types of resin cements were subjected to irradiation. After 24 h, the Knoop microhardness of each resin cement was evaluated. The specimens were immersed separately in distilled water and maintained at 37°C. A total of 5 specimens of each resin cement were collected at the following time intervals of immersion: 1, 6, 12 and 18 months. The samples were used to evaluate the Knoop parameters of microhardness, sorption and solubility. The surface morphology of the specimens after 18 months of immersion was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The sorption and solubility data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA. The Knoop microhardness was tested by the ANOVA repeated measures (P<0.05). Results: The sorption and solubility parameters of C1 and S1 exhibited significant fluctuations during the aqueous aging. The hardness of the S1 and S2 specimens decreased significantly after an 18-month water immersion. The S1, S2 and S3 specimens indicated higher filler exposure and stripping and apparent pores and cracks compared to specimens C1, C2 and C3, respectively. Conclusion: The surface of selfadhesive resin cements is more susceptible to aqueous damage than that of the conventional resin cements

    Pseudo-Phase Transitions of Ising and Baxter-Wu Models in Two-Dimensional Finite-Size Lattices

    This article offers a detailed analysis of pseudo-phase transitions of Ising and Baxter-Wu models in two-dimensional finite-size lattices. We carry out Wang Landau sampling to obtain the density of states. Using microcanonical inflection point analysis with microcanonical entropy, we obtain the order of the psuedo-phase transitions in the models. The microcanonical analysis results of the second-order transition for the Ising model and the first-order transition for the Baxter-Wu model are consistent with the traditional canonical results. In addition, the third-order transitions are found in both models, implying the universality of higher-order phase transitions.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure

    Diary industry in China has been in deep crisis since a series of quality scandals were exposed to public in 2008. Thanks to the traceability system in dairy supply chain and the growth of the internet, providing traceable dairy product information to the public is viewed as one of the best ways, mostly in terms of feasibility , to overcome the trust crisis and to promote the development of the dairy industry in China. However, among the tons of information available from the supply chain, there is a lack of knowledge on consumer preference. Based on choice-based conjoint analysis, this paper investigated consumer preference on dairy product traceable information query service. Specifically , this paper measured the value that consumers place on the dairy product traceable information. We used a multinomial logit model to estimate the preferences and offered 3 ways to explain the value of each kind of information that consumers are concerned about. Results indicate that different consumer groups hold different preferences

    ON THE EXISTENCE AND UNIQUENESS OF A LIMIT CYCLE FOR A LIENARD SYSTEM WITH A DISCONTINUITY LINE

    In this paper, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of crossing limit cycle for a planar nonlinear Lienard system which is discontinuous along a straight line (called a discontinuity line). By using the Poincare mapping method and some analysis techniques, a criterion for the existence, uniqueness and stability of a crossing limit cycle in the discontinuous differential system is established. An application to Schnakenberg model of an autocatalytic chemical reaction is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our result. We also consider a class of discontinuous piecewise linear differential systems and give a necessary condition of the existence of crossing limit cycle, which can be used to prove the non-existence of crossing limit cycle

    Competing Endogenous RNA Network Analysis Reveals Pivotal ceRNAs in Adrenocortical Carcinoma

    Objective: To construct ceRNA network and identify pivotal competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) in adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) using ceRNA network analysis.Methods: The RNA sequencing expression data of 77 ACCs in TCGA were obtained from GEPIA. Cancer specific ceRNAs, cancer specific microRNAs (miRNAs), and cancer specific messenger RNAs (mRNAs) were identified. The interaction of cancer specific miRNAs with cancer specific ceRNAs and cancer specific mRNAs were predicted. CeRNA network was constructed and visualized by Cytoscape 3.7.0 software. The genes in ceRNA network regulated GO terms and regulated pathways were performed by function analysis. Survival analysis of pivotal ceRNAs was performed for the pivotal lncRNAs.Result: Twenty-eight cancer specific ceRNAs, 149 cancer specific miRNAs, and 104 mRNAs were identified. CeRNA network was constructed including 10 ceRNAs, 35 miRNAs, and 34 mRNAs. The genes in ceRNA network regulated GO terms and were classified into three groups: cellular component (CC), molecular function (MF), and biological process (BP). The genes in ceRNA network regulated the following pathways: leukocyte transendothelial migration, and proteoglycans in cancer. Survival analysis showed that CTB-63M22.1 and RP1-241P17.4 were significantly associated with ACC patient disease free survival and overall survival.Conclusion: This study has constructed ceRNA networks in ACC. The study provides a set of pivotal ceRNAs for future investigation into the molecular mechanisms

    Distributed Fusion Estimation for Multisensor Multirate Systems with Stochastic Observation Multiplicative Noises

    This paper studies the fusion estimation problem of a class of multisensor multirate systems with observation multiplicative noises. The dynamic system is sampled uniformly. Sampling period of each sensor is uniform and the integer multiple of the state update period. Moreover, different sensors have the different sampling rates and observations of sensors are subject to the stochastic uncertainties of multiplicative noises. At first, local filters at the observation sampling points are obtained based on the observations of each sensor. Further, local estimators at the state update points are obtained by predictions of local filters at the observation sampling points. They have the reduced computational cost and a good real-time property. Then, the cross-covariance matrices between any two local estimators are derived at the state update points. At last, using the matrix weighted optimal fusion estimation algorithm in the linear minimum variance sense, the distributed optimal fusion estimator is obtained based on the local estimators and the cross-covariance matrices. An example shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms

    Chemical-free Extraxtion of Cotton Stalk Bark Fibers by Steam Flash Explosion

    Cotton stalk bark fibers (CSBF) were extracted by steam flash explosion, completed within 0.09 s, and the extracted fibers were compared with those obtained by conventional alkaline treatment. Results indicate that the optimum steam pressure was 2.5 MP a when steaming time was set to 2 min for extracting CSBF. Under the optimized conditions, the obtained CBSF had a cellulose content of 72%, length of 48 mm, fineness of 45 dtex, crystallinity index of 68, moisture regain of 8%, water rention of 98%, and tensile strength of 2.4 cN/dtex, which were similar to results obtained by conventional alkaline treatment. Compared with bark of cotton stalks, CSBF had lower moisture regain and water retention, and higher onset decomposition temperature. The results sow that moderate steam flash explosion is a chemical-free, quick, and effective method for exploring the industrial applications of bark of cotton stalks as natural cellulose fibers
