    Population ageing is a phenomenon of great socio-economic importance with major consequences for business. Analysis of older consumers and of their peculiarities is important for achieving effective advertising communication. This study analyses the antecedents of older people’s attitude to the ad and its effects on the brand attitude and purchasing intention in conditions of low involvement with the ad. From a sample consisting of 509 individuals, the general model posited is confirmed and older people are found to use both persuasion paths jointly in the cognitive processing of the ad.El envejecimiento poblacional es un hecho de gran transcendencia socioeconómica con importantes repercusiones empresariales. Es importante el análisis del consumidor mayor y de sus particularidades para la consecución de una efectiva comunicación publicitaria. En este trabajo se analizan los antecedentes de la actitud ante el anuncio de las personas mayores y sus consecuencias sobre la actitud hacia la marca y la intención de compra en condiciones de baja implicación con el anuncio. Sobre una muestra constituída por 509 sujetos se confirma el modelo general planteado y se defiende que las personas mayores utilizan conjuntamente las dos rutas de persuasión en el procesamiento cognitivo del anuncio

    La realidad social, económica y laboral actual exige un continuo desarrollo de las habilidades y de los conocimientos adquiridos, así como la adquisición de otros nuevos. Por ello, la formación «en» y «para» el empleo resulta un pilar fundamental para el desarrollo de los países, las organizaciones productivas y el individuo. En dicha sentido, se realizan importantes aportes para mantener alto el nivel de competencias de los ciudadanos y los trabajadores. La formación permite desarrollar el capital intelectual de la organización y prepara a los individuos para afrontar los retos que plantea la economía global.El desarrollo de estas competencias clave es uno de los retos de la formación profesional básica, pues forman parte de la preparación que los alumnos deben recibir ante su incorporación al mundo profesional. En este sentido, entendemos las prácticas que los estudiantes realizan fuera del centro educativo como el espacio que les permite aplicar y adquirir ese conjunto de conocimientos, habilidades y destrezas.En el presente artículo, se muestran los resultados más relevantes de una investigación desarrollada en ocho centros de formación profesional de Cataluña, teniendo en cuenta los factores que influyen en la transferencia de los aprendizajes y el desarrollo de las competencias. La formació permet desenvolupar el capital intel·lectual de l'organització i prepara els individus per afrontar els reptes que planteja l'economia global.El desenvolupament d'aquestes competències clau és un dels reptes de la formació professional bàsica, atès que formen part de la preparació que els alumnes han de rebre davant la incorporació al món professional. En aquest sentit, les pràctiques que realitzen fora del centre educatiu constitueixen el context on poden aplicar i adquirir aquest conjunt de coneixements, habilitats i destreses.En aquest article, s'hi mostren els resultats més rellevants d'una recerca desenvolupada en vuit centres de formació professional de Catalunya, tenint en compte els factors que influeixen en la transferència dels aprenentatges i el desenvolupament de les competències. In this line, much effort is being made to maintain a high level of competences among citizens and workers. Training enhances organisations' intellectual capital and prepares workers to face the challenges of the global economy. The acquisition of general competences is one of the challenges of initial vocational training, as such competences are an essential part of the preparation that students should receive to foster their incorporation into the professional world. In this regard, workplace internships during training provide a setting for students to apply their competences and acquire new ones. This article presents the findings of a research study conducted at eight vocational training centres of Catalonia, taking into account the factors that influence the transfer of learning and the development of general competencies as perceived by students and school-based and workplace-based supervisors

    Validation of Immunoassay-Based Tools for the Comprehensive Quantification of Aß40 and Aß42 Peptides in Plasma

    Recent advances in neuroimaging and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarker assays have provided evidence of a long preclinical stage of Alzheimer''s disease (AD). This period is being increasingly targeted for secondary prevention trials of new therapies. In this context, the interest of a noninvasive, cost-effective amyloid-ß (Aß) blood-based test does not need to be overstated. Nevertheless, a thorough validation of these bioanalytical methods should be performed as a prerequisite for confident interpretation of clinical results. The aim of this study was to validate ELISA sandwich colorimetric ABtest40 and ABtest42 for the quantification of Aß40 and Aß42 in human plasma. The validation parameters assessed included precision, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, recovery, and dilution linearity. ABtest40 and ABtest42 proved to be specific for their target peptide using Aß peptides with sequence similar to the target. Mean relative error in the quantification was found to be below 7.5 for both assays, with high intra-assay, inter-assay, and inter-batch precision (CV <9.0 on average). Sensitivity was assessed by determination of the limit of quantification fulfilling precision and accuracy criteria; it was established at 7.60 pg/ml and 3.60 pg/ml for ABtest40 and ABtest42, respectively. Plasma dilution linearity was demonstrated in PBS; however, dilution in a proprietary formulated buffer significantly increased the recovery of both Aß40 and Aß42 masked by matrix interactions, allowing a more comprehensive assessment of the free and total peptide levels in the plasma. In conclusion, both assays were successfully validated as tools for the quantification Aß40 and Aß42 in plasma

    Negative effect of the arthropod parasite, Sarcoptes scabiei, on testes mass in Iberian ibex, Capra pyrenaica

    Testes mass is a key factor in male reproductive success and is potentially exposed to so-called 'parasitic castration'. This is the result of the direct destruction or alteration of reproductive cell lineages (parasitic castration sensu stricto), or the indirect detrimental effects - for example, via body condition - on the ability of progenitors to produce or rear offspring (parasitic castration sensu lato). There are enormous gaps in our knowledge on the effects of parasites on the testes of wild mammals and in an attempt to rectify this dearth of data we examined the relationship between the skin parasite Sarcoptes scabiei and testes mass in Iberian ibex Capra pyrenaica. We considered data from 222 males that were culled in the population from the Sierra Nevada in Spain. Our results provide evidence that sarcoptic mange is associated with reduced size-corrected testes mass in Iberian ibex which supports the hypothesis that parasitism is a determining factor in gonad plasticity in male mammals. We discuss several hypothetical causes of this relationship and highlight the need to deepen the sub-lethal effects of pathogens if we are to accurately understand their modulator effects on host population dynamics. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.Peer Reviewe

    High Power Test on an x-Band Slotted-Iris Accelerator Structure at NLCTA

    The CLIC study group at CERN has built two X-band HDS (Hybrid Damped Structure) accelerating structures for high-power testing in NLCTA at SLAC. These accelerating structures are novel with respect to their rf-design and their fabrication technique. The eleven-cell constant impedance structures, one made out of copper and one out of molybdenum, are assembled from clamped high-speed milled quadrants. They feature the same heavy higher-order-mode damping as nominal CLIC structures achieved by slotted irises and radial damping waveguides for each cell. The X-band accelerators are exactly scaled versions of structures tested at 30 GHz in the CLIC test facility, CTF3. The results of the X-band tests are presented and compared to those at 30 GHz to determine frequency scaling, and are compared to the extensive copper data from the NLC structure development program to determine material dependence and make a basic validation of the HDS design.
