Polarization coupling and pattern selection in a type-II optical parametric oscillator
We study the role of a direct intracavity polarization coupling in the
dynamics of transverse pattern formation in type-II optical parametric
oscillators. Transverse intensity patterns are predicted from a stability
analysis, numerically observed, and described in terms of amplitude equations.
Standing wave intensity patterns for the two polarization components of the
field arise from the nonlinear competition between two concentric rings of
unstable modes in the far field. Close to threshold a wavelength is selected
leading to standing waves with the same wavelength for the two polarization
components. Far from threshold the competition stabilizes patterns in which two
different wavelengths coexist.Comment: 14 figure
Electromagnetic Decays of Heavy Baryons
The electromagnetic decays of the ground state baryon multiplets with one
heavy quark are calculated using Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. The
M1 and E2 amplitudes for S^{*}--> S gamma, S^{*} --> T gamma and S --> T gamma
are separately computed. All M1 transitions are calculated up to
O(1/Lambda_chi^2). The E2 amplitudes contribute at the same order for S^{*}-->
S gamma, while for S^{*} --> T gamma they first appear at O(1/(m_Q
\Lambda_\chi^2)) and for S --> T gamma are completely negligible. The
renormalization of the chiral loops is discussed and relations among different
decay amplitudes are derived. We find that chiral loops involving
electromagnetic interactions of the light pseudoscalar mesons provide a sizable
enhancement of these decay widths. Furthermore, we obtain an absolute
prediction for the widths of Xi^{0'(*)}_c--> Xi^{0}_c gamma and Xi^{-'(*)}_b-->
Xi^{-}_b gamma. Our results are compared to other estimates existing in the

Processing of ultrafine-size particulate metal matrix composites by advanced shear technology

A new rheo-processing method, the melt-conditioning high-pressure die-cast (MC-HPDC) process, has been developed for manufacturing near-net-shape components of high integrity. The MC-HPDC process adapts the well-established high shear dispersive mixing action of a twin-screw mechanism to the task of overcoming the cohesive force of the agglomerates under a high shear rate and high intensity of turbulence. This is followed by direct shaping of the slurry into near-net-shape components using an existing cold-chamber die-casting process. The results indicate that the MC-HPDC samples have a uniform distribution of ultrafine-sized SiC particles throughout the entire sample in the as-cast condition. Compared to those produced by conventional high-pressure die casting (HPDC), MC-HPDC samples have a much improved tensile strength and ductility.EP-SR
Exploring flavor structure of supersymmetry breaking from rare B decays and unitarity triangle
We study effects of supersymmetric particles in various rare B decay
processes as well as in the unitarity triangle analysis. We consider three
different supersymmetric models, the minimal supergravity, SU(5) SUSY GUT with
right-handed neutrinos, and the minimal supersymmetric standard model with U(2)
flavor symmetry. In the SU(5) SUSY GUT with right-handed neutrinos, we consider
two cases of the mass matrix of the right-handed neutrinos. We calculate direct
and mixing-induced CP asymmetries in the b to s gamma decay and CP asymmetry in
B_d to phi K_S as well as the B_s--anti-B_s mixing amplitude for the unitarity
triangle analysis in these models. We show that large deviations are possible
for the SU(5) SUSY GUT and the U(2) model. The pattern and correlations of
deviations from the standard model will be useful to discriminate the different
SUSY models in future B experiments.Comment: revtex4, 36 pages, 10 figure
Search for composite and exotic fermions at LEP 2
A search for unstable heavy fermions with the DELPHI detector at LEP is
reported. Sequential and non-canonical leptons, as well as excited leptons and
quarks, are considered. The data analysed correspond to an integrated
luminosity of about 48 pb^{-1} at an e^+e^- centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV
and about 20 pb^{-1} equally shared between the centre-of-mass energies of 172
GeV and 161 GeV. The search for pair-produced new leptons establishes 95%
confidence level mass limits in the region between 70 GeV/c^2 and 90 GeV/c^2,
depending on the channel. The search for singly produced excited leptons and
quarks establishes upper limits on the ratio of the coupling of the excited
fermio
Using Malaise traps to assess aculeate Hymenoptera associated with farmland linear habitats across a range of farming intensities
The intensification of farming practices, along with the loss and fragmentation of semi-natural habitats within agricultural areas, has contributed significantly to insect decline worldwide including flower-visiting aculeate Hymenoptera. In this study aculeate Hymenoptera were collected using bi-directional Malaise traps placed along farmland linear habitats across a range of farming intensities. The aim was to further our understanding of the value of farmland linear habitats to this insect group and in particular the Vespinae, an understudied subfamily. Overall, significantly greater aculeate Hymenoptera species richness was found on extensive than on intermediate and intensive farms. Significantly more species and specimens were collected on the side of the traps adjacent to the linear habitats compared to the side which opened onto the fields. Aculeate Hymenoptera species richness was also significantly greater in dense hedgerows than in open hedgerows. Furthermore, two out of six Vespinae species, Vespula rufa and Vespula vulgaris, had significantly more individuals on extensive than intensive farms. This study highlights that low-intensity farming practices and farmland linear habitats, especially dense hedgerows, may enhance aculeate Hymenoptera occurrence in agricultural areas. It also demonstrates that Malaise traps set up along linear habitats across a range of farming intensities can make a significant contribution to knowledge regarding the biodiversity value of such areas. Given that selected Vespinae species follow similar trends to aculeate Hymenoptera, the possibility of using them as simple biodiversity indicators is worthy of further exploration.© 2019 The Royal Entomological Societ
Higgs and neutrino sector, EDM and epsilon_K in a spontaneously CP and R-parity breaking supersymmetric model
We construct an extension of the supersymmetric standard model where both CP
symmetry and R-parity are spontaneously broken. We study the electroweak
symmetry breaking sector of the model and find minima consistent with the
experimental bounds on Higgs boson masses. Neutrino masses and mixing angles
are generated through both seesaw and bilinear R-parity violation. We show that
the hierarchical mass pattern is obtained, and mixings are consistent with
measured values. Due to the spontaneous CP and R-parity violation, the neutrino
sector is CP violating, and we calculate the corresponding phase. We further
restrict the parameter space to agree with the limits on the electric dipole
moment of the neutron. Finally, we study the CP violation parameter epsilon_K
in the kaon system and show that we obtain results consistent with the

Epstein-Barr virus: clinical and epidemiological revisits and genetic basis of oncogenesis
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is classified as a member in the order herpesvirales, family herpesviridae, subfamily gammaherpesvirinae and the genus lymphocytovirus. The virus is an exclusively human pathogen and thus also termed as human herpesvirus 4 (HHV4). It was the first oncogenic virus recognized and has been incriminated in the causation of tumors of both lymphatic and epithelial nature. It was reported in some previous studies that 95% of the population worldwide are serologically positive to the virus. Clinically, EBV primary infection is almost silent, persisting as a life-long asymptomatic latent infection in B cells although it may be responsible for a transient clinical syndrome called infectious mononucleosis. Following reactivation of the virus from latency due to immunocompromised status, EBV was found to be associated with several tumors. EBV linked to oncogenesis as detected in lymphoid tumors such as Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), Hodgkin's disease (HD), post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) and T-cell lymphomas (e.g. Peripheral T-cell lymphomas; PTCL and Anaplastic large cell lymphomas; ALCL). It is also linked to epithelial tumors such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), gastric carcinomas and oral hairy leukoplakia (OHL). In vitro, EBV many studies have demonstrated its ability to transform B cells into lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs). Despite these malignancies showing different clinical and epidemiological patterns when studied, genetic studies have suggested that these EBV- associated transformations were characterized generally by low level of virus gene expression with only the latent virus proteins (LVPs) upregulated in both tumors and LCLs. In this review, we summarize some clinical and epidemiological features of EBV- associated tumors. We also discuss how EBV latent genes may lead to oncogenesis in the different clinical malignancie
