In this study, asphalt binder and asphalt concrete (AC) materials are characterized using laboratory nanoindentation testing and mechanical models. Traditionally, laboratory nanoindentation test data is analyzed using the Oliver-Pharr method to determine elastic modulus and hardness of materials. In a nanoindentation test, a test sample surface is indented or loaded by a hard indenter tip and then unloaded. In the past, several studies of the polymer materials area have selected a loading rate and dwell time (i.e., the peak load is kept constant for a few seconds before unloading) to avoid or minimize the viscous effect of a material. No studies have attempted to examine the effects of dwell time and loading rate on viscous materials such as asphalt binder, which is the main topic of discussion in this study. This study focuses on determination of mechanical properties such as the elastic modulus and the hardness of viscoelastic materials, like asphalt, from nanoindentation load-displacement data. An existing spring-dashpot-rigid (SDR) element model developed by Oyen and Cook is employed as well as the well-established Oliver Pharr method. The SDR model uses the loading, holding and unloading time-displacement data to predict the modulus, hardness and viscosity of the material. The model has shown excellent agreement with the laboratory indentation data of asphalt binder. Further, the SDR model is calibrated for nanoindentation test data of polymer modified asphalt binder. In addition, mechanical models such as the Voigt model and the Burger model are fitted to creep displacement and time data from nanoindentation tests to predict viscosity, retardation time and creep compliance for asphalt binder. All the models are found to fit very well with an average R2-value of 0.99 for the Voigt model and R2-value of 0.99 for the Burger model. Lastly, the nanoindentation test is performed on an AC (solid) sample to understand the aging in AC. Nanoindentation is done on two different parts of the AC sample: one on the mastic part (mix of asphalt binder and fines) and the other on the pure aggregate part. One hundred indentations were made in a single test on the mastic part to capture the heterogeneity. Approximately sixty indentations were made during a single indentation test on the aggregate part of AC. A small dwell time was applied to reduce the viscous effect of the mastic

COVID-19 is a new type of virus that was discovered in Indonesia in March 2020. The confirmed patient data as of March 1, 2021, were 1,341,314 people from all over Indonesia. The Covid-19 outbreak has brought changes in the movement of the economic structure and mobility of the people evenly. One of them is that the learning system which was initially implemented offline and later became online has a significant negative impact on productivity that can be felt by parents and students themselves. One of the lessons that must be online is sports, where sports activities require movement in their implementation. This research uses a survey method and uses primary data, namely data sources that are directly obtained and collected in the field. This research is a qualitative research with library methods and uses a data collection technique in the form of a questionnaire. Based on the results of research on the readiness of PJOK teachers in carrying out online learning, it shows that most of them stated their readiness to carry out online learning, related to the online learning system that there was a significant increase in the online learning system, and related to online learning media showed that there was a significant increase in the use of media online learning

    Upflow sand-roughing filtration

Slow sand filtration requires low turbidity water for effective operation. In most cases this means pretreating the raw water to reduce its turbidity. Lately horizontal gravel filters have become very popular as a means of pretreatment. They are simple to operate, have a large mass storage capacity, and can cope with high turbidity shock loads. However, cleaning them can be a problem. An alternative pretreatment, which this study is concerned with, is upflow sand roughing filtration. It has the potential advantages of simple design, ease of operation and cleaning, and low area requirements. A study of upflow versus downflow was done using two small filter columns. The results showed that although downflow exhibited a better turbidity removal than upflow, upflow allowed longer filter runs and better utilisation of bed depth. This was in agreement with earlier findings. The effect of backwash water quality was also investigated. Both filters were run in upflow direction; one was washed with tap water, the other with polluted raw water. The results suggested, unexpectedly, that a filter washed repeatedly with polluted water produced slightly better turbidity removal than one washed with tap water. This indicated some form of maturation, which could be biological in nature, taking place. Experiments with horizontal gravel filters clearly showed the importance of biological mechanisms in maturation. Four new filter columns, 50mm in diameter, were constructed. These allowed further investigation of the effect of bed depth. Backwash rate and duration were investigated to find an optimum. Very little of the wash water was required to clean the filters, the majority being required to flush the turbidity out of the system. The long-term effect of backwash on filters was investigated, as was the effect of wash water quality. Tap water, raw water and raw water polluted with settled sewage were used to wash the filters. The results indicated that the filters washed with raw water and polluted water proved to be as good as regards turbidity removal as those washed with tap water. This suggested that raw water backwash could be used effectively for washing upflow roughing filters

Digital human resource management (HRM) popularly known as Electronic HRM has got immense popularity around the world including least developing countries like Bangladesh due to rapid automation, tech-based business era, presence and involvement larger community online, real-time response, gaining efficiency, and distance handling of HR in the workplace. Application of digital HR practices has faster the process, reduces cost, saves times, recruiting through social media, establish a brand and enhance the name and fame of the organization to the global community providing a platform of Human Resource Information System (HRIS). The study mainly reveals the current status, prospects, and challenges of using digital HRM in the garments industry in Bangladesh. To serve this purpose a focused group discussion has been conducted of most renowned eight garment factories along with digital HRM practices therein. Being the second position of readymade garments products exporting countries Bangladesh is certainly on the right track to capitalize on it with lots of prospects and challenges. Meanwhile, number one ranked China is moving on advancing on the automation.to keep track of this competition Bangladesh should not lag. Hence, the proper application of digital HR practices can be blessed to convert the mass into human resources. Keywords: Digital HRM, garments industry, HRIS, social media, prospects, and challenges. EVALUATION OF SITE VARIABILITY AND ITS APPLICATION IN DESIGN

    Get PDF
Geotechnical characterization has an important role in engineering geology as well as in implementation of any project. There are several variables and uncertainties involved in characterizing a project site. Four different sources of uncertainties represent the characterization of geotechnical variability, which include spatial variability, measurement error, statistical error and model bias. Spatial variability is expressed in terms of the mean, variance, and scale of fluctuation. Several statistical techniques such as the Gauge R & R, which includes X-Bar/R and ANOVA, and the Second Moment can be applied to compute site variability in terms of the coefficient of variations. Measurement error is evaluated using data extracted from several laboratory tests. Statistical error and model bias arise when a correlation model is selected to interpret specific data. To measure site variability in this research, tests were conducted using different devices in the box and at the field. Analyses were conducted using the Gauge R & R and Second Moment (SM), and variability is expressed in terms of standard deviations and coefficient of variations (COVs). While comparing variability from the box and the field tests, it is apparent that the COVs from the second moment are smaller than the COVs from the ANOVA method. Similarly, operator related variations show comparatively low values of the COVs than those generated from location/specimen related variability. Besides, analyses of variability from the box test indicate lower bound of coefficient of variations than the field tests. The under-constructed sections tested at LA highway exhibited higher values of COVs compared with the constructed sections at the Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF). In the case of laboratory tests, specimen related variability renders higher COVs than the operator related variability. The inclusion of variabilities into the practical applications, such as bearing capacity of shallow foundation and settlement analysis, showed reduction in the probability of failure and reduction in the magnitude of settlement, respectively
