AbstractThe preparation and characterization of platinum electrodes on glass substrates obtained by the Pechini method for a potential application as a counter electrode is presented in this paper. This method is based on the dissolution of citric acid (CA) and hexachloride platinum acid (H2PtCl6) in ethylene glycol (EG), and then calcinated in an appropriated temperature to produce the desired metallic film. Characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron and atomic force microscopy and cyclic voltammetry. X-ray patterns of platinum on glass substrate showed the same features of the platinum bulk metal as well as its voltammetric profile. In order to determine the stability of the electrode, the electrode was subjected to 5000 voltammetric cycles and polarized at constant current of 100 mA cm−2 for at least 200 h, showing no considerable differences compared with the as synthesized electrode. Moreover, the main advantage of the electrode is the low cost (US$ 0.03 cm−2) of the prepared samples

AbstractObjectiveThe present study evaluated the reproducibility and validity of two models of receivers for the Global Positioning System (GPS). Validity was assessed by comparing the distance recorded by the GPS receivers with the known distance.MethodSix young players (177.6±6.2cm; 76.6±3.2kg) performed three routes with different characteristics: 1) 100m in the athletics track (number of “sprints” = 120); 2) 400m in the athletics track (number of “sprints” = 60) and 3) 100m with changes of direction (number of “sprints” = 120), using equipment Garmin© Forerunner 405 and Polar© RS800.ResultsRegarding linear routes (100 and 400m), no differences were detected using ANOVA two-way (distance and speed) between the known distance and distance recorded by GPS receivers analyzed (p>0.05). Regarding non-linear route of, significant differences were observed between the known distance and recorded distance by the GPS receivers (p<0.05). There was also a significant difference between the distance recorded by Polar© RS800 and Garmin© Forerunner 405 for the non-linear route (p<0.05). Analysis of the limits of agreement reinforces the limitation of equipment in relation to accuracy for the non-linear route.ConclusionThese data suggest that the GPS receivers evaluated showed acceptable level of accuracy for linear routes, however, the accuracy of such devices on non-linear routes was limited

In recent years, multi-label classification (MLC) has become an emerging research topic in big data analytics and machine learning. In this problem, each object of a dataset may belong to multiple class labels and the goal is to learn a classification model that can infer the correct labels of new, previously unseen, objects. This paper presents a survey of genetic algorithms (GAs) designed for MLC tasks. The study is organized in three parts. First, we propose a new taxonomy focused on GAs for MLC. In the second part, we provide an up-to-date overview of the work in this area, categorizing the approaches identified in the literature with respect to the taxonomy. In the third and last part, we discuss some new ideas for combining GAs with MLC

Effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor and LDL receptor-related protein 1 (LRP-1) receptor in locally advanced breast cancer

Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors are overexpressed in most neoplastic cell lines and provide a mechanism for the internalization and concentration of drug-laden nanoemulsions that bind to these receptors. The aim of the present study was to determine whether the administration of standard chemotherapeutic schemes can alter the expression of LDL and LDL receptor-related protein 1 (LRP-1) receptors in breast carcinoma. Fragments of tumoral and normal breast tissue from 16 consecutive volunteer women with breast cancer in stage II or III were obtained from biopsies before the beginning of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and after chemotherapy, from fragments excised during mastectomy. Tissues were analyzed by immunohistochemistry for both receptors. Because complete response to treatment was achieved in 4 patients, only the tumors from 12 were analyzed. Before chemotherapy, there was overexpression of LDL receptor in the tumoral tissue compared to normal breast tissue in 8 of these patients. LRP-1 receptor overexpression was observed in tumors of 4 patients. After chemotherapy, expression of both receptors decreased in the tumors of 6 patients, increased in 4 and was unchanged in 2. Nonetheless, even when chemotherapy reduced receptors expression, the expression was still above normal. The fact that chemotherapy does not impair LDL receptors expression supports the use of drug carrier systems that target neoplastic cells by the LDL receptor endocytic pathway in patients on conventional chemotherapy

At the odontologic market the composed resins are becoming more and more used to replace old materials, like amalgamates in the aesthetic and functional restorations, since they present a better appearance and easier manuscript. The chemical composition of these materials varies and the results of the chemical reactions of polymerization processes are quite unknown. The aim of this work was to measure the resistance of the abrasive wear of six composed resins sold in Brazilian market when displayed to polymerization periods of 10, 20 and 40 seconds. The grinding disc method appropriated for odontology was used to make this process possible. For this a bank of assays in which a porcelain covered dynamic disc consumes a static disc recovered by the polymerized resin is used to demonstrate the method in a pre-established time. The abrasive wear was determined by the calculation of the aggressiveness (capacity of a material to consume another). This aggressiveness is determined by an initial graph of displacement for time, through the computational method (LabView program). After they have passed through a linear regression the results give as a possibility the angular coefficient, considered a parameter at the calculation of aggressiveness. Higher values of aggressiveness which means a higher aggression suffered by the resin disc indicate worse resistance to the abrasive consuming of this resin in relation to porcelain. The results showed a variable comportment for each material ahead the different polymerization time, which prove the importance in create a practical and fast analyses method to test new materials before their us

This paper was prepared in the Aquaculture Laboratory of the Federal University of the State of Parana, Brazil, with the purpose of determining the best sodium hypochloride (NaClO with 6% active ingredient) dosage to be employed in the artemia oocysts hatching process. The artemia oocysts were hydrated for 1 hour, filtered and submitted to a 10-minute chlorine treatment. The chlorine dosages tested were the following (NaClO - 6% sodium hypochloride): 0.38g, 0.75g, 1.50g, 3.00g and 6.00g of active ingredient per liter of water. Soon after chlorine application the oocysts were rinsed to eliminate the chlorine and immediately the oocysts were put into transparent plastic vials with water in the constant aeration and luminosity, where they remained for 53 hours. For the nauplii count one mililiter of the vial was put into a test tube with an interconnected aeration. Three counts were made for all repetitions and the threshold analysed was the number of hatched larvae per mililiter of hatching solution. The results were submitted to a normality test and it was determined that the hatching results did not show a normal pattern, therefore, it was not possible to use those averages as a comparison basis between treatments. Subsequently non-parametric tests were performed using the overall average as a comparison basis between treatments.Techically one can see the superiority of treatment with 1.50g of active chlorine, which resulted in the highest hatching-out counts, with 50% of the observed data presented 140 larvae hatched per milimiter.O presente trabalho foi realizado no Laboratório de Aqüicultura da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), com o objetivo de determinar a melhor dose de hipoclorito de sódio (NaClO com 6% de ingrediente ativo) a ser empregada na descapsulação de oocistos de artemia.
