Weyl holographic superconductor in the Lifshitz black hole background

    Get PDF
We investigate analytically the properties of the Weyl holographic superconductor in the Lifshitz black hole background. We find that the critical temperature of the Weyl superconductor decreases with increasing Lifshitz dynamical exponent, zz, indicating that condensation becomes difficult. In addition, it is found that the critical temperature and condensation operator could be affected by applying the Weyl coupling, Îł\gamma. Moreover, we compute the critical magnetic field and investigate its dependence on the parameters Îł\gamma and zz. Finally, we show numerically that the Weyl coupling parameter Îł\gamma and the Lifshitz dynamical exponent zz together control the size and strength of the conductivity peak and the ratio of gap frequency over critical temperature ωg/Tc\omega_{g}/T_{c}.Comment: 25 pages, 22 figure

Vast application of the antibiotic drugs in animals without due attention to withdrawal times necessitates quality control of food stuff in terms of antibiotics' residues. Antibiotic residues in food stuff cause bacterial resistance, allergic reactions, toxicity, carcinogenic effects and change of natural micro flora of intestine in consumers. So, the aim of the present study is detection of antibiotic residues and its contamination rate in cultured rainbow trout. Four-plate test is one of the microbiological methods of detecting antibiotic residues in food stuff, which is based on inhibition zone formation around the sample in four culture media with different pH and test bacteria. For this purpose, 45 samples from skin and meat of rainbow trout fish were obtained randomly from fish market of Tabriz city. After different phases of four-plate test, from a total of 180 skin samples, 13 cases (7.22%) and from a total of 180 meat samples, 18 cases (10%) were diagnosed to be contaminated to antibiotic residues. The results showed that contamination rate of two tissues, (meat and skin), have no significant difference (P>0.05), and the highest contamination to antibiotic residues were related to penicillin and macrolides groups (P<0.05)

Tales from the playing field: black and minority ethnic students' experiences of physical education teacher education

    Get PDF
This article presents findings from recent research exploring black and minority ethnic (BME) students’ experiences of Physical Education teacher education (PETE) in England (Flintoff, 2008). Despite policy initiatives to increase the ethnic diversity of teacher education cohorts, BME students are under-represented in PETE, making up just 2.94% of the 2007/8 national cohort, the year in which this research was conducted. Drawing on in-depth interviews and questionnaires with 25 BME students in PETE, the study sought to contribute to our limited knowledge and understanding of racial and ethnic difference in PE, and to show how ‘race,’ ethnicity and gender are interwoven in individuals’ embodied, everyday experiences of learning how to teach. In the article, two narratives in the form of fictional stories are used to present the findings. I suggest that narratives can be useful for engaging with the experiences of those previously silenced or ignored within Physical Education (PE); they are also designed to provoke an emotional as well as an intellectual response in the reader. Given that teacher education is a place where we should be engaging students, emotionally and politically, to think deeply about teaching, education and social justice and their place within these, I suggest that such stories of difference might have a useful place within a critical PETE pedagogy

Chaotic Accretion in a Non-Stationary Electromagnetic Field of a Slowly Rotating Compact Star

    Get PDF
We investigate charge accretion in vicinity of a slowly rotating compact star with a non-stationary electromagnetic field. Exact solutions to the general relativistic Maxwell equations are obtained for a star formed of a highly degenerate plasma with a gravitational field given by the linearized Kerr metric. These solutions are used to formulate and then to study numerically the equations of motion for a charged particle in star's vicinity using the gravitoelectromagnetic force law. The analysis shows that close to the star charge accretion does not always remain ordered. It is found that the magnetic field plays the dominant role in the onset of chaos near the star's surface.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

Softshell turtle (Amyda cartilaginea Boddaert, 1770) is categorized as Appendix II CITES and vulnerable in IUCN Red List Data Book. Captive breeding of this turtle is important to continue their sustainable utilization. PT Ekanindya Karsa was one of the pioneers in captive breeding of this species since 2008. Until now, reference related to management and maintenance techniques of softshell turtle in captivity are few. This research aims to analyse feeding preferences in juveniles. The results will assist wildlife conservation efforts and improve captive breeding effort for the future. Research was carried out at PT. Ekanindya Karsa from July to October 2012. Fifteen juveniles were given food for 9 weeks comprises of tuna, shrimp, spinach and sweet potatoes with cafeteria methods. Based on the number of food intake and cost efficiency, prefereed food was sweet potato and tuna. Feeding activities were visible in the morning (7.00 – 10.00 am) and evening (7.00 – 10.00 pm) with ad libitum sampling methods. During experiment, all growth parameter (curve carapacea length, curve carapacea width and body mass) increased constantly

The temperature of storage of a batch of wheat distillers dried grains with solubles samples on their nutritive value for broilers

    Get PDF
A batch of wheat distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) was obtained immediately after production and was separated into 5 equal parts and placed in woven polypropylene sacks. The samples were stored under 5 different temperature conditions for one year as follows: kept at a constant -20ÂșC; kept at -20ÂșC for 24 h period and after that kept at a constant +4ÂșC; kept at a constant +4ÂșC only; kept at a constant +15ÂșC; stored at ambient temperature (range of weekly mean temperatures was from +4 to +22ÂșC). 2. Each of the 5 wheat DDGS samples was included (200 g/kg) in a nutritionally complete diet and fed to broiler chickens from 7 to 21 d of age. The chemical composition of the DDGS samples was determined at the beginning and at the end of the one year storage period. 3. The nitrogen corrected apparent metabolisable energy (AMEn) and the nutrient availability of each sample was measured using a total collection technique. The growth performance of birds was also determined. 4. The DDGS samples kept at a constant -20ÂșC had higher dry matter, lower oxidation value and lower antioxidant contents. The DDGS sample that was stored at ambient temperatures had a higher AMEn than the rest of the DDGS samples. 5. The results of this experiment have shown that there can be changes in the AMEn of wheat DDGS during storage at ambient temperatures. In general, there were no serious effects of storage of DDGS on its feeding value to broiler chickens

Transcendence over Diversity: black women in the academy

    Get PDF
Universities, like many major public institutions have embraced the notion of ‘diversity’ virtually uncritically- it is seen as a moral ‘good in itself’. But what happens to those who come to represent ‘diversity’- the black and minority ethnic groups targeted to increase the institutions thirst for global markets and aversion to accusations of institutional racism? Drawing on existing literature which analyses the process of marginalization in higher education, this paper explores the individual costs to black and female academic staff regardless of the discourse on diversity. However despite the exclusion of staff, black and minority ethnic women are also entering higher education in relatively large numbers as students. Such ‘grassroots’ educational urgency transcends the dominant discourse on diversity and challenges presumptions inherent in top down initiatives such as ‘widening participation’. Such a collective movement from the bottom up shows the importance of understanding black female agency when unpacking the complex dynamics of gendered and racialised exclusion. Black women’s desire for education and learning makes possible a reclaiming of higher education from creeping instrumentalism and reinstates it as a radical site of resistance and refutation

The principle of regional autonomy spawned legal norms stating that based on the principle of regional autonomy, regional head position the charging system is done through an election by the people of the area, and without the participation of the central government in determining the position of head of the area. According to the principle of regional autonomy, local independently determine the head region. Then, Indonesia as a state constitutional establish legal order based on the provisions of the constitution. An Act to regulate the charging system regional head position is formulated to maintain consistency with the provisions of the constitution. The rule of law charging system based regional head position is a reflection of democracy and the constitutional principle of local autonomy simultaneously. Based on the principle of local autonomy, the territory can apply the rule of law different charging systems associated with regional head position. These different settings later called asymmetric decentralization system of filling the position of regional head. The asymmetric decentralization can not only be applied to areas that are privileged and special, but also can be applied to areas in general
