    Accuracy of digital panoramic radiographs on the vertical measurements of dental implants

    Amaç: Panoramik radyografi (PR), dental ve iliskili yapilari degerlendirmek için en sik kullanilan tekniktir. Bu çalismanin amaci, dental implant tedavisinin planlanmasinda panoramik radyografik görüntülerin (PRI) dogrulugunu ve anterior, premolar ve posterior bölgeler için bir panoramik cihazin büyütme oranini belirlemekti. Gereç ve Yöntem: Implant cerrahisi sonrasi PRI'lari alinmis olan 83 hasta çalismaya dahil edildi. önceden dikey uzunluklari bilinen toplam 240 adet dental implant (53 anterior, 69 premolar ve 118 molar bölge), PRI'nin büyütme oranini ve dogrulugunu belirlemek için, panoramik sistemin ölçüm araçlari kullanilarak ameliyat sonrasi radyografik görüntüler üzerinde tekrar ölçüldü. Verilerin normal dagilima sahip olmasi nedeniyle, istatistiksel analiz için eslestirilmis t testi kullanildi (p < 0,05). üç bölgenin büyütme orani, implantlarin ölçülen dikey uzunlugunun, implantlarin gerçek dikey uzunluguna orani bulunarak hesaplandi. Bulgular: Implantlarin gerçek dikey uzunlugu ve PRI'dan ölçülen dikey uzunlugu arasinda istatistiksel olarak anlamli fark bulundu (p < 0,05). Bununla birlikte, korelasyon orani tüm bölgeler için 1'e yakin bulundu. Implantlarin gerçek dikey uzunlugu ve PRI'den ölçülen dikey uzunlugu arasindaki fark, ön bölge için 0.50 mm, premolar bölge için 0,97 mm ve molar bölge için 0,83 mm idi. Cliniview™ (Instrumentarium Sti., Tuusula, FINLANDIYA) yazilimi tarafindan düzeltilen panoramik sistemin büyütme orani, tüm bölgeler için 1 civarinda bulundu. Sonuçlar: PRI'lar, kolay ulasilabilir olmalari ve düsük radyasyon dozlari sayesinde, implant cerrahisi planlamasindaki dikey ölçümler için 1 mm'lik güven araligi ile kullanilabilir. © Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry 2018.Objectives: Panoramic radiography (PR) is the most commonly used technique to evaluate the dental and associated structures. The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of panoramic radiographic images (PRIs) in planning the dental implant treatment and the magnification rate of a panoramic device for anterior, premolar and posterior regions. Materials and Methods: Eighty-eight patients with PRIs were taken after implant surgery were included to the study. A total of 240 dental implants (53 anterior, 69 premolar, and 118 molar regions) of which actual vertical lengths were known, were re-measured on post-operative radiographic images using the scaling tools of the panoramic system to determine the magnification rate and the accuracy of PRIs. Because the data had normal distribution, the paired t test was used for the statistical analysis (p < 0.05). The magnification rates of the three regions were calculated as the ratio of the radiographically measured vertical length of the implants to the actual vertical length of the implants. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between the actual and measured vertical length of the implants on the PRI (p < 0.05). However, the correlation rate was found close to 1 for all regions. The difference between the actual and measured vertical length of the implants on the PRI was 0.50 mm for the anterior region, 0.97 mm for the premolar region, and 0.83 mm for the molar region. The magnification rate of the panoramic system corrected by Cliniview™ (Instrumentarium Corp., Tuusula, FINLAND) software was found around 1 for all the regions. Conclusions: Due to their readily accessible nature and low radiation dose, PRIs can be used in implant surgery for vertical measurements with 1 mm confidence interval. © Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry 2018

    Transesterification of oil extracted from different species of algae for biodiesel production

    In the current study, biodiesel production efficiency of Chlorella vulgaris, Rhizoclonium hieroglyphicum and mixed algae culture was measured by transesterification process. Growth rate of algal species was measured on the basis of increase in their dry matter in various media. Protein, carbohydrates and lipids in all selected algae were measured on dry matter basis. Extracted oil was analyzed for water contents, iodine value, saponification value, acid number and fatty acid composition. Transesterification of algal oil was performed by using sodium methoxide as a catalyst. Yield of biodiesel from extracted oil was calculated for C. vulgaris (95%), R. hieroglyphicum (91%) and mixed algae culture (92%). Produced biodiesel was analyzed for kinematic viscosity (4.9, 5.0 and 4.7 mm2/s), flash point (160, 156 and 155°C), specific gravity (0.91, 0.914 and 0.912 g/ml), cetain number (51, 49 and 47 min), iodine value (47, 53 and 49 mg/g), acid number (0.49, 0.5 and 0.46 mg.KOH/g), carbon residue (0.01, 0.02 and 0.01 mass%), sulfated ash (0.007, 0.003 and 0.004 mass%), sulphur (0.013, 0.012 and 0.01 wt%) and water contents (15, 23 and 17 mg/kg) for C. vulgaris, R. hieroglyphicum and mixed algae culture, respectively. Properties of biodiesel were compared with ASTM standards and it was found with high quality biodiesel.Key words: Biodiesel, oil extraction, algae, transesterification

    Characterization of an embedded RF-MEMS switch

    An RF-MEMS capacitive switch for mm-wave integrated circuits, embedded in the BEOL of 0.25μm BiCMOS process, has been characterized. First, a mechanical model based on Finite-Element-Method (FEM) was developed by taking the residual stress of the thin film membrane into account. The pull-in voltage and the capacitance values obtained with the mechanical model agree very well with the measured values. Moreover, S-parameters were extracted using Electromagnetic (EM) solver. The data observed in this way also agree well with the experimental ones measured up to 110GHz. The developed RF model was applied to a transmit/receive (T/R) antenna switch design. The results proved the feasibility of using the FEM model in circuit simulations for the development of RF-MEMS switch embedded, single-chip multi-band RF ICs

    The effect of CoQ10 and vitamin E on serum total sialic acid, lipid-bound sialic acid, some trace elements and minerals in rats induced with doxorubicin

    This study was designed to evaluate the effect of CoQ10 and vitamin E on serum total sialic acid (TSA), lipid bound sialic acid (LSA) and some elements in rat administered doxorubicin (DXR). Cu levels were increased in the group treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with DXR (p&lt;0.05) and CoQ10 groups (p = 0.001). Furthermore, copper levels were increased in the group treated with DXR + CoQ10 in comparison with CoQ10 group (p &lt; 0.05). Zn levels were decreased in the group treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with CoQ10 group (p &lt; 0.05). Mg levels were decreased in subjects treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with the control group values (p &lt; 0.05). Particularly, the observed increase in Cu levels in rats from DXR + vitamin E group might be due to the decrease of vitamin E. However, the oxidative damage could be as a result of DXR occurence and may be helpful to clinicians in chemotherapy using anthracycline.Key words: Doxorubicin, total sialic acid (TSA), lipid bound sialic acid (LSA), trace elements, minerals

    Integration of security standards in DevOps pipelines: An industry case study

    In the last decade, companies adopted DevOps as a fast path to deliver software products according to customer expectations, with well aligned teams and in continuous cycles. As a basic practice, DevOps relies on pipelines that simulate factory swim-lanes. The more automation in the pipeline, the shorter a lead time is supposed to be. However, applying DevOps is challenging, particularly for industrial control systems (ICS) that support critical infrastructures and that must obey to rigorous requirements from security regulations and standards. Current research on security compliant DevOps presents open gaps for this particular domain and in general for systematic application of security standards. In this paper, we present a systematic approach to integrate standard-based security activities into DevOps pipelines and highlight their automation potential. Our intention is to share our experiences and help practitioners to overcome the trade-off between adding security activities into the development process and keeping a short lead time. We conducted an evaluation of our approach at a large industrial company considering the IEC 62443-4-1 security standard that regulates ICS. The results strengthen our confidence in the usefulness of our approach and artefacts, and in that they can support practitioners to achieve security compliance while preserving agility including short lead times.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Short-time dynamics and magnetic critical behavior of two-dimensional random-bond Potts model

    The critical behavior in the short-time dynamics for the random-bond Potts ferromagnet in two-dimensions is investigated by short-time dynamic Monte Carlo simulations. The numerical calculations show that this dynamic approach can be applied efficiently to study the scaling characteristic, which is used to estimate the critical exponents theta, beta/nu and z for the quenched disorered systems from the power-law behavior of the kth moments of magnetizations.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures Soft Condensed Matte

    Ising model on 3D random lattices: A Monte Carlo study

    We report single-cluster Monte Carlo simulations of the Ising model on three-dimensional Poissonian random lattices with up to 128,000 approx. 503 sites which are linked together according to the Voronoi/Delaunay prescription. For each lattice size quenched averages are performed over 96 realizations. By using reweighting techniques and finite-size scaling analyses we investigate the critical properties of the model in the close vicinity of the phase transition point. Our random lattice data provide strong evidence that, for the available system sizes, the resulting effective critical exponents are indistinguishable from recent high-precision estimates obtained in Monte Carlo studies of the Ising model and \phi^4 field theory on three-dimensional regular cubic lattices.Comment: 35 pages, LaTex, 8 tables, 8 postscript figure

    Status of Muon Collider Research and Development and Future Plans

    The status of the research on muon colliders is discussed and plans are outlined for future theoretical and experimental studies. Besides continued work on the parameters of a 3-4 and 0.5 TeV center-of-mass (CoM) energy collider, many studies are now concentrating on a machine near 0.1 TeV (CoM) that could be a factory for the s-channel production of Higgs particles. We discuss the research on the various components in such muon colliders, starting from the proton accelerator needed to generate pions from a heavy-Z target and proceeding through the phase rotation and decay (πμνμ\pi \to \mu \nu_{\mu}) channel, muon cooling, acceleration, storage in a collider ring and the collider detector. We also present theoretical and experimental R & D plans for the next several years that should lead to a better understanding of the design and feasibility issues for all of the components.     Bilateral acute angle closure glaucoma as a presentation of isolated microspherophakia in an adult: case report

    BACKGROUND: Bilateral simultaneous angle closure glaucoma is a rare entity. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of bilateral acute angle-closure glaucoma secondary to isolated microspherophakia in an adult. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old woman presented with bilateral acute angle closure glaucoma, with a patent iridotomy in one eye. Prolonged miotic use prior to presentation had worsened the pupillary block. The diagnosis was not initially suspected, and the patient was subjected to pars-plana lensectomy and anterior vitrectomy for a presumed ciliary block glaucoma. The small spherical lens was detected intraoperatively, and spherophakia was diagnosed in retrospect. She had no systemic features of any of the known conditions associated with spherophakia. Pars-plana lensectomy both eyes controlled the intraocular pressure successfully. CONCLUSION: This case demonstrates the importance of considering the diagnosis of isolated microspherophakia in any case of bilateral acute angle closure glaucoma. Lensectomy appears to be an effective first-line strategy for managing these patients
