New Physics effects in the flavor-changing neutral couplings of the Top quark
We survey the flavor-changing neutral couplings (FCNC) of the top quark
predicted by some extensions of the Standard Model: THDM, SUSY, L-R symmetric,
TC2, 331, and models with extra quarks. Since the expected sensitivity of the
LHC and ILC for the tcV (V=\gamma,g,Z) and tcH couplings is of order of a few
percent, we emphasize the importance of any new physics effect that gives a
prediction for these FCNC couplings within this limit. We also review the
constraints imposed on these couplings from low-energy precision measurements.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figures. Accepted as a review paper in Int. J. of Mod.

Nanostructure and properties of a Cu-Cr composite processed by severe plastic deformation
A Cu-Cr composite was processed by severe plastic deformation to investigate
the role of interphase boundaries on the grain size reduction mechanisms. The
as-deformed material exhibits a grain size of only 20nm. This gives rise to a
dramatic increase of the hardness. Some deformation induced Cu super saturated
solid solutions were clearly exhibited and it is shown that they decrease the
hardness. The formation of such supersaturated solid solution and their
influence on the mechanical properties are discussed
Co-infections and superinfections complicating COVID-19 in cancer patients: A multicentre, international study

We aimed to describe the epidemiology, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of co-infections and superinfections in onco-hematological patients with COVID-19.
Methods
International, multicentre cohort study of cancer patients with COVID-19. All patients were included in the analysis of co-infections at diagnosis, while only patients admitted at least 48 h were included in the analysis of superinfections.
Results
684 patients were included (384 with solid tumors and 300 with hematological malignancies). Co-infections and superinfections were documented in 7.8% (54/684) and 19.1% (113/590) of patients, respectively. Lower respiratory tract infections were the most frequent infectious complications, most often caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa . Only seven patients developed opportunistic infections. Compared to patients without infectious complications, those with infections had worse outcomes, with high rates of acute respiratory distress syndrome, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and case-fatality rates. Neutropenia, ICU admission and high levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) were independent risk factors for infections.
Conclusions
Infectious complications in cancer patients with COVID-19 were lower than expected, affecting mainly neutropenic patients with high levels of CRP and/or ICU admission. The rate of opportunistic infections was unexpectedly low. The use of empiric antimicrobials in cancer patients with COVID-19 needs to be optimized. This study was supported by the Spanish Plan Nacional de IDi 2013-2016, Instituto de Salud Carlos III, SubdirecciĂłn General de Redes y Centros de InvestigaciĂłn Cooperativa, Ministerio de EconomĂa, Industria y Competitividad, and the Spanish Network for Research in Infectious Diseases (REIPI grant: RD16/0016/0001). A Possible Detection of Occultation by a Proto-planetary Clump in GM Cephei
GM Cep in the young (~4 Myr) open cluster Trumpler 37 has been known to be an
abrupt variable and to have a circumstellar disk with very active accretion.
Our monitoring observations in 2009-2011 revealed the star to show sporadic
flare events, each with brightening of < 0.5 mag lasting for days. These
brightening events, associated with a color change toward the blue, should
originate from an increased accretion activity. Moreover, the star also
underwent a brightness drop of ~1 mag lasting for about a month, during which
the star became bluer when fainter. Such brightness drops seem to have a
recurrence time scale of a year, as evidenced in our data and the photometric
behavior of GM Cep over a century. Between consecutive drops, the star
brightened gradually by about 1 mag and became blue at peak luminosity. We
propose that the drop is caused by obscuration of the central star by an
orbiting dust concentration. The UX Orionis type of activity in GM Cep
therefore exemplifies the disk inhomogeneity process in transition between
grain coagulation and planetesimal formation in a young circumstellar disk.Comment: In submission to the Astrophysical Journal, 4 figure
Search for Direct CP Violation in Non-Leptonic Decays of Charged and Hyperons
A search for direct CP violation in the non-leptonic decays of hyperons has
been performed. In comparing the product of the decay parameters,
, in terms of an asymmetry parameter,
, between hyperons and anti-hyperons in the charged and decay sequence, we found no evidence of
direct CP violations. The parameter was measured to be .Comment: Submitted for publication; RevTex, 13 pages, 4 figure
