Developing resilience: Stories from novice nurse academics
© 2016 . Background: It is acknowledged that novice nurse academics face many challenges on commencement of their new role. Most are recruited from the clinical arena, with little understanding of the academic triumvirate of teaching, research and service. They struggle with role expectation and experience feelings of isolation and anxiety. Aim: The aim of this paper is to report on an exploration of 14 new nurse academics from two major nursing education institutions as they utilised and developed resilience building strategies. Method: The paper is drawn from a qualitative study that sought to see the world through the eyes of the participants through storytelling. Data was collected using semi-structured, conversational style interviews. Interviews were audio recorded and revealed themes that captured resilience strategies. Results: These themes were: Developing supportive collegial relationships; Embracing positivity; and Reflection and transformative growth. The first theme, developing supportive relationships, provides insight into the mentoring process and the relationships developed with peers and colleagues. The second theme, embracing positivity, describes the factors that assisted them to face the adversity and challenges in the new role. The final theme, reflection and transformative growth, demonstrated participants' reflecting on difficult situations and demonstrating the ability to learn from the experiences and move forward. Conclusions: The strategies utilised by the participants in this study were key factors in the development of resilience which assisted in the transition from clinical nurse to academic. These strategies were often tacit and it is imperative that in a time of acute nurse academic shortages where retention is paramount, that employing organisations support employees and contribute to resilience development. Old stellar counter-rotating components in early-type galaxies from elliptical-spiral mergers
We investigate, by means of numerical simulations, the possibility of forming
counter-rotating old stellar components by major mergers between an elliptical
and a spiral galaxy. We show that counter-rotation can appear both in
dissipative and dissipationless retrograde mergers, and it is mostly associated
to the presence of a disk component, which preserves part of its initial spin.
In turn, the external regions of the two interacting galaxies acquire part of
the orbital angular momentum, due to the action of tidal forces exerted on each

The work described in this paper is part of the IROMEC project (Interactive Robotic Social Mediators as Companions) that recognizes the important role of play in child development and targets children who are prevented from or inhibited in playing. The project investigates the role of an interactive, autonomous robotic toy in therapy and education for children with special needs. This paper specifically addresses the therapeutic and educational objectives related to children with autism. In recent years, robots have already been used to teach basic social interaction skills to children with autism. The added value of the IROMEC robot is that play scenarios have been developed taking children's specific strengths and needs into consideration and covering a wide range of objectives in children's development areas (sensory, communicational and interaction, motor, cognitive and social and emotional). The paper describes children's developmental areas and illustrates how different experiences and interactions with the IROMEC robot are designed to target objectives in these areas.Final Published versio
A SAURON look at galaxy bulges
Kinematic and population studies show that bulges are generally rotationally
flattened systems similar to low-luminosity ellipticals. However, observations
with state-of-the-art integral field spectrographs, such as SAURON, indicate
that the situation is much more complex, and allow us to investigate phenomena
such as triaxiality, kinematic decoupling and population substructure, and to
study their connection to current formation and evolution scenarios for bulges
of early-type galaxies. We present the examples of two S0 bulges from galaxies
in our sample of nearby galaxies: one that shows all the properties expected
from classical bulges (NGC5866), and another case that presents kinematic

OASIS High-Resolution Integral Field Spectroscopy of the SAURON Ellipticals and Lenticulars
We present a summary of high-spatial resolution follow-up observations of the
elliptical (E) and lenticular (S0) galaxies in the SAURON survey using the
OASIS integral field spectrograph. The OASIS observations explore the central
8x10" regions of these galaxies using a spatial sampling four times higher than
SAURON, often revealing previously undiscovered features. Around 75% (31/48) of
the SAURON E/S0s with central velocity dispersion >= 120 km/s were observed
with OASIS, covering well the original SAURON representative sample. We present
here an overview of this follow-up survey, and some preliminary results on
individual objects, including a previously unreported counter-rotating core in
NGC 4382; the decoupled stellar and gas velocity fields of NGC 2768; and the

SAURON Observations of Disks in Spheroids
The panoramic integral-field spectrograph SAURON is currently being used to
map the stellar kinematics, gaseous kinematics, and stellar populations of a
large number of early-type galaxies and bulges. Here, we describe SAURON
observations of cold stellar disks embedded in spheroids (NGC3384, NGC4459,
NGC4526), we illustrate the kinematics and ionization state of large-scale
gaseous disks (NGC4278, NGC7742), and we show preliminary comparisons of SAURON

SAURON: An Innovative Look at Early-Type Galaxies
A summary of the SAURON project and its current status is presented. SAURON
is a panoramic integral-field spectrograph designed to study the stellar
kinematics, gaseous kinematics, and stellar populations of spheroids. Here, the
sample of galaxies and its properties are described. The instrument is detailed
and its capabilities illustrated through observational examples. These includes
results on the structure of central stellar disks, the kinematics and
ionization state of gaseous disks, and the stellar populations of galaxies with

Towards a new classification of early-type galaxies: an integral-field view
In this proceeding we make use of the two-dimensional stellar kinematics of a
representative sample of E and S0 galaxies obtained with the SAURON
integral-field spectrograph to reveal that early-type galaxies appear in two
broad flavours, depending on whether they exhibit clear large-scale rotation or
not. We measure the level of rotation via a new parameter LambdaR and use it as
a basis for a new kinematic classification that separates early-type galaxies
into slow and fast rotators. With the aid of broad-band imaging we will
reinforce this finding by comparing our kinematic results to the photometric
